Q:What is the difference between each wheel's number of segments? Does the number of segments indicate the grit? If so, what's the break down

Answer This Question

A:  Dear Shanda, We appreciate you reaching out. The number of segments on the wheel allows for maximum grinding life and does not represent the grit size. RIDGID Diamond Cup Wheels are engineered with top-grade industrial diamond for maximum cutting performance and superior grinding life. Should you need additional assistance or have further questions. Please feel free to give us a call at our RIDGID customer support number at (877) 224-2969 so that we can help.

Probably overkill for what I needed it for - but was perfect tool for the job
Had to cut down a buddy's basketball pole that was sunk in his driveway's concrete. Used a standard cutoff wheel in grinder only to find out pole was filled with concrete. Cut it down the surface and used a sledge hammer to get the 1' stub off. Left a bumpy area where the concrete broke off at the surface and in the pole. Used this grinding wheel to grind the concrete smooth as well as the remainder of the pole. Worked great!

More expensive than many putatively similar wheels on Amazon, but after 4 hours use, I see wear only on inside and outside corners of each segment. I was concerned about speed of cut and resultant smoothness in grinding down high spots in a 55-year old concrete garage floor. Mounted on my Bosch 5" angle grinder at max 11,000 rpm, I took down 1/8"H x 3"W raised areas in the cracked slab in two passes without bearing down much on the machine. When moved moderately, at about 5 seconds per foot, it produces a very smooth surface, maybe equivalent to 100-grit sandpaper on wood. I also had a spot where part of the garage foundation "curb" had been roughly broken out to install a door. It was easy to grind down concrete and the included aggregate stones of the jack-hammered opening that remained sticking up about 1/2" above slab level.

Very pleased, I purchased this grinding wheel to fine tune the pavestones after cutting them with the tile cutter and was able to grind the angle back onto the pavestones to match the other sides after cutting.
