Questions & Answers

Where is the "Planer" function?

This machine looks like a Jointer to me. Normally Jointer/Planers have two separate functions that require the machine to be reconfigured to change between one function and the other. While this machine does have the jointer capability, I don't see the capability to perform the planing function, in which the thickness of the piece of wood can be accurately controlled by running it between rollers.
Asked by: Jeff
A thickness planer uses helical blades to flatten panels or boards up to 12.5"-13" wide. A jointer cuts slots into boards to joint them using biscuits or maybe thin splines. This is a joiner, it uses a planing knife to flatten the edge of boards to make flush with another board. People are confusing this joiner with another machine called a jointer. Those are two different machines. Joiner makes the boards flat so they can be trued, a biscuit jointer makes biscuit joints.

when was the last time this product was available at home depot

intrested in picking one up
Asked by: Ken
I bought one on line on February 9 (2019). There seems to be far more demand than supply for this item and the holdup appears to be somewhere in the supply chain, a problem of which RIDGID (I'm told) is working and about which RIDGID is trying to do something to alleviate. I had to wait MONTHS after buying one and having to return it (it worked flawlessly for 6 weeks, but due to a screw-up by someone in product assembly which left the product unregisterable ... hence the return since I wanted the lifetime warranty), and having assembled it yesterday (in under 3 hours, no helper) it runs just as flawlessly as the first one I had. (And this one had the same snafu with the serial number plate but this time someone in customer service helped me and it is now registered successfully so I have the lifetime warranty. I'd update my original review but that isn't possible... sigh.)

Does the jointer have a caster kit?

Asked by: John
No factory casters, but I replaced two of the "feet" on one end with small casters. I pick up one other end to wheel it into position. Once the other two feet are back on the ground, it does not move. Works well for a couple of bucks.

Has this jointer be discontinued? I don't want to buy a unit being discontinued. Thanks

People can't find it in stock at Home Depot nor are replacement blades readily available
