Do you have to remove filter to vacuum up water
      ByFeb 16, 2025

      Answer This Question

Hello Tommy, Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. When picking up small amounts of liquid (less than 2 inches (5 cm) of liquid in the bottom of the drum) the filter may be left in place. When picking up large amounts of liquid (more than 2 inches (5 cm) of liquid in the bottom of the drum) it is recommended that the filter be removed. If the filter is not removed, it will become saturated, and misting may appear in the exhaust. When the liquid in the drum reaches a predetermined level, the float mechanism will rise automatically to cut off airflow. You will know that the float has risen because vacuum airflow ceases and the motor noise will become higher in pitch, due to increased motor speed. When this happens, turn off the vacuum, unplug the power cord, and empty the drum. After using the vacuum to pick up liquids, the filter must be dried to avoid possible mildew and damage to the filter. The RIDGID Wet Application Filter (VF7000) is designed for your RIDGID wet/dry vacuum to use when picking up high volume liquids with debris. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.

Hello Tommy, Thank you for reaching out about our product. For small amounts of liquid pickup, feel free to keep the original filter in place. However, when dealing with larger quantities of liquid, it's important to remove the filter. Neglecting this step may lead to the filter becoming saturated and misting appearing in the exhaust port. If you anticipate handling more liquid pickups and would like to further protect the motor, we recommend considering the VF7000 wet foam filter as an additional option. This filter is available at Home Depot stores or online at homedepot.com and store.ridgid.com. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact our Customer Service team at 1-800-474-3443. We are available Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time. Alternatively, you can also reach out via email at info@ridgidvacs.com, and we will be more than happy to assist you promptly. Best regards, RIDGID

Hi Airblowingout, Thank you for your inquiry on our product! It is normal in our vacuums to blow out airfrom the exhaust port when in use for vacuuming. You might want to check VT2525 Muffler/ Diffuser accessory that you can attach to the blowing port to reduce the air stream. This is available at any local Home Depot stores or online https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-2-1-2-in-Diffuser-Accessory-Shop-Vac-Attachment-for-RIDGID-Wet-Dry-Vacuums-VT2525/100037235. Answer This Question

Hi Dolfnjon, Thank you for your inquiry about our products. To answer your question, the vacuum is designed to facilitate the removal of water and debris, even when it’s filled to around 6 gallons. However, for safety reasons, it’s important to avoid lifting a vacuum that is heavy with liquid or debris. Instead, you should partially empty by scooping debris or draining liquid from the vacuum before lifting to reduce the risk of back injury or falls. Please follow the "Important safety instructions" in the owner's manual for safely emptying and handling the vacuum If you have questions or concerns, you may call us at 1-800-474-3443 from Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time or send us an email at info@ridgidvacs.com and we'll be glad to assist you. Thanks, RIDGID

                    Answer This Question

Hello Sandra, Thank you for reaching out to us regarding our product. You can easily download the PDF copy of the manual at this link under Support Documents: https://www.ridgid.com/us/en/6-gallon-nxt-wet-dry-vac#support When it comes to handling small amounts of liquid, our original pleated paper filter is a suitable choice. It effectively captures liquid without compromising the performance of your vacuum. However, for larger liquid volumes, we recommend removing the filter to prevent water misting and ensure optimal functionality. If you frequently encounter dirty water or regularly use your vacuum for wet pickups, we have just the solution for you! Our wet foam filter VF7000, available at Home Depot stores, is specifically designed to handle these situations with ease. This high-quality filter will provide exceptional performance and peace of mind during your cleaning sessions. Should you have any further questions or concerns, our dedicated Customer Service team is here to assist you. Feel free to reach out at 1-800-474-3443 from Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Standard Time. We appreciate your interest in our product and look forward to helping you enhance your vacuuming experience! Thanks, RIDGID

This is TOO LOUD for the amount of suction it provides, DO NOT BUY. This was going to replace a 9 gal 3.5 hp that I've had for over 15 yrs, I figured since it was 3.5 hp, it would provide same suction and only lose a bit of capacity. Nope, it hardly picks up and is so loud and whiny, i'm going to have to replace it with something else, it's the first time Ridgid has let me down.

                      Hello jackthehandyman,

Thanks for writing a review and we’re sorry to know your disappointment about the product. While most customers are satisfied with the suction power of this vac, you may return the vac to Home Depot store within 90 days of purchase. This vacuum is rated at 64 CFM suction power. Additionally, there are several factors that can affect actual airflow, including turbulence in the hose and wands, restrictions on airflow where the cleaning tool meets the floor or other surface, as well as filter loading. The HD06001 is rated 82 decibels with the hose attached. Vacuums can get loud especially when used in an enclosed space. We highly recommend wearing ear protectors when using the vac for extended period or in a noisy area. If you need a vac with higher CFM, you may contact us directly so we can help you find one suitable for your needs.

If you have other questions, please call us at 1-800-474-3443 from Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time or send us an email at info@ridgidvacs.com

Why buy a name brand vacuum that does not suck?
Ok, Father's Day, 2023 we were on the way to camp. We remembered that that dad mentioned a shop vac would be nice to have, especially a wet / dry vacuum. Hey, a 6-gal vacuum that is wet/dry? Rigid? No brainer! We purchased the 6-gal model. Some assembly required? Ha! It was a freaking cheap mess of parts that barely fit together. See photos below: First, it would not pick up some nails, not 20 penny, but roofing, and some plaster nails. Second, we tried to demonstrate the wet pick up, we had mopped the porch and figured it would be a test and show it off. Wrong! With a sponge mop and a bucket, I removed more water in 15 min total than the vacuum had done all day. Ridgid should be embarrassed, a vacuum that does not vacuum novel approach to lose customers and alienate those who love this brand.

Hello PSUPUNguy, Thanks for writing a review and we're sorry to have learned about your disappointment. There are only a few parts that require assembly such as the casters and the handle. May we know which parts you're having difficulty with the assembly? On a different note, while a lot of users are happy with the performance of this vac, you may need a vac with a higher CFM. The higher the CFM, the more efficient it will pick up debris. This vac is rated at 64 CFM suction power. Additionally, there are several factors that can affect actual airflow, including turbulence in the hose and wands, restrictions on airflow where the cleaning tool meets the floor or other surfaces, increased resistance due to the bag filling with dirt, as well as filter loading. You may return the vac to Home Depot within the first 90 days following their return policy. If you have questions or you need assistance in finding another vac more suitable for your needs, you may call our Customer Service at 1-800-474-3443 from Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central Time and we'll be glad to assist you. Replaced my larger rigid that stopped working…
3 year old larger rigid shop vac is a waste of space in my garage since the switch went out and can’t find a replacement. Bought this for some work we are doing. Dust is fine. Small brads and such—not so much. My dirt devil had more suction. I guess if you are buying it to dust your house it is fine… but not if you are trying to clean up a room after pulling up a carpet and need it clean for new flooring….

I bought this shop vac without doing any research, which is completely out of my character. However I was needing a new VF5000 filter for my older Ridged, which is “old” and blows moldy smells— I needed this for our new home indoor projects. I have 4 shop vacs and my older Ridged is my best of all, to include my “very expensive” brand vac, so of course a Ridged is my go-to. When I went to buy a $24.97 filter for my older Ridged, I saw this complete shop vac for $55, so it was a no brainer to me. I bought it and set it up, went to vacuum my concrete floor in my dogs rooms — I just pulled the carpet up and plucked the tack stripes up; which left concrete pieces and tiny nails. Once I fired the new vac up, it was Extremely loud and only picked up 30% of the concrete pieces on the floor,— they were smaller than a dime and thinner than one too. But this vac would “not” pick them up unless I positioned the head piece directly over it and waited 2-3 secs. There was also some small tack nails (that were holding the carpet down) and it wouldn’t pick those up either— even after putting the vac over it. The nails went up (I could feel em rattling in the tube in my hand) but then feel out when I picked the vac up from the floor. When I put the vac to my hand, it “felt” strong but not sure why it wouldn’t grab anything. I had to return this piece and I was really hoping to fall in love with it since I just bought a new home and need something to do random projects without smelling up the house.

This small Rigid wet/dry vac had simple set up instructions which were accomplished in about 5 minutes. Basically, snap in the caster feet, screw in the handle and you are set. It is a manageable size for storage and home use and has a carry handle for easy movement. The feet have molded storage posts for the extension wands which keep them secure when not in use. Unfortunately, as great as the look and construction of this unit is, I had some issues once I tested it out on my auto mats and interior. I was hoping this unit would be powerful enough to replace my ancient Shopvac but it was rather disappointing. I thought the large diameter of the hose would be an asset but it has insufficient suction for many tasks. There should be an attachment included that narrows the end opening for tight spaces and more concentrated suction. It wouldn't add much to the price and it is definitely needed. I was unable to reach many places in the car's interior and I felt it had mediocre performance. I would opt for a Rigid model with more HP and other attachments. I like the basic design, weight and low noise level but I need more power before I retire my bulky metal Shopvac.

Hey RIDGID Customer! Sorry to hear that this vacuum didn’t meet your expectations. If you’re needing an attachment that would go into tight spaces, check out the VT1702 (1-7/8” Crevice Tool). Accessories like this usually comes with larger models like the WD18510. If you need more assistance in choosing a vacuum and the right accessories that will best suit your projects, give us a call at 1-800-474-3443 or send us an email at info@ridgidvacs.com – RIDGID Ridgid

Love this vacuum! Its squatty design makes it harder to tip over which is great because we all pull shop vacs around by the hose. This vac is super easy to assemble. With the exception of the 2 screws attaching the handle to the top of the unit, everything snaps together easily. I've used it for blowing up inflatables, blowing dust and debris out of the garage, vacuuming up dirt/leaves/trash - damp and dry and it works very well. I took it to work where we have a LOT of chalk dust which normally clogs up vacuums quickly - the vac made short work of the dust without clogging and everyone really liked using it.

Ridgid raises the bar on economical shop vacuums. The engineers did their best to create a more powerful, more user friendly garage vacuum and keep the price at $50. I believe this is a much improved vacuum over the older Ridgid WD0670. Look for my video summary on YouTube (or below) for an in-depth review of how this vacuum performs. Summary- Pros: • Great Suction. Better than Shop Vac. • Better hose. Nice flexible hose that has larger diameter than most but not too large to be annoying. • Price. Hard to believe you can buy a vacuum for less than a pair of sneakers. You’ll probably still want to purchase vacuum bags (see note below), an accessory muffler, some accessory tools (and possibly HEPA filter) but you’ll still be way ahead. Cons: • Noise. This vacuum is louder than most and you should wear hearing protection for extended uses (i.e. sanding). • Filter Mounting. Ridgid vacs use a tool-less press on filter design that really doesn’t work well. It’s easy to damage the filter taking it on/off and the rubber longevity is questionable. Difficulty increases if the filter is really dirty. Note on the bags. The HD website says this vac uses VF3505 6-9 gallon bags. Box says VF3501 (3-4.5 gallon). I purchase both and found the VF3501 worked best (See Video). The larger 6-9 gallon had to be awkwardly folded to fit in this new squattier canister. About my ratings: 5 stars – Exceeds all expectations. Better than the competition in all aspects, design, cost, operation, and support (A+). 4 stars – Nicely done. Better than the competition and solves the problem. (B) 3 stars – Works as expected. Has some shortcomings but gets the job done. Might be short in design, cost, longevity, or support. (C). 2 stars – Falls short of expectations and needs improvement. Pass and look elsewhere. (D) 1 star – Fails miserably. Does not get the job done, might even make things worse. Someone at the company should be fired. (F)
