1/4" is the depth of the v-notch? 3/16" is the width of the V-notch? 1/2" is the width of the flat area between notches? So center to center measurement is 1/2" + 3/16" = 11/16"?
From multiple sites searching the internet, first number is width, second number is depth. If a third number provided, it's the spacing in between.
Is this a good trowel to use to install backsplash kitchen tilles n which how home depot i can get one today.

Is this trowel for Taylor adhesive using 1/2 in engineered flooring? They show 3/16 1/4 5/16 flat.

If so, use the recommended trowel size. 3/16x1/4x5/16 is different than a 3/16x1/4x1/2 trowel. To answer your questions, No this is not the same trowel size. I used it for floor adhesive under engineered flooring. The product I used specified a different size notch much like yours. It worked really well in my application. Big suggestion, the adhesive is very messy and sticky. Cover the trowel and handle with duct tape on both sides leaving just the notches exposed. Made clean up really easy
