Questions & Answers

Why is this the only Maul available in stores if the reviews are so poor?

Asked by: wrench
? Maybe they sell well because people keep needing to replace them ? Or maybe they are high profit. Or maybe many homeowners decide splitting wood with a maul is too much work.

Customer Reviews

8 lb. Maul with 33 in. Fiberglass Handle is rated 1.7 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from When in one piece worked great, but didn't last long If you are expecting to use this tool for more than one season, move on. The handle is plastic and probably is unbreakable, but the problem lies where the handle goes into the head. It is a very weak connection and will break over usage. I have a wood stove that supplements my heat so I do not use this maul much. probably have a total of 10 hours of use on it and last night it went. Because of the way the plastic handle fits into the head, there is no way to repair since the opening for the handle is smaller than a wooden handle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works for what it's made for I've seen alot of bad reviews for this, and kinda shocked. I've had mine for about 2 years. I've used it to split giant logs, 10" wide, to smaller logs, 4" wide, and not had an issue with it. I have split over 200 logs with this maul. This maul is used to split logs, with little effort from the user. I use this on logs which have dried out, like cut and dried out for atleast 6 months. If the logs you are trying to split are fresh, ie. still have moisture in them from being fresh cut, the maul isn't going to preform as expected. If the logs are dried/cured, there won't be an issue at all. 8 lbs for the head is perfect. There is no issue to raise it properly when holding it the correct way. If you hold it wrong, you're going to miss, and potentially hit something you don't want to hit. Like yourself. I have had my family and friends use it and they enjoy it. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to get into splitting wood.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from WEAK SAUCE Not worth the gas it costs to bring it home. Used it twice with a wedge and it failed miserably. Finished it off on a rotten stump and the result in the posted photo.
