Questions & Answers

Can this be applied to painted interior wall
ByJun 4, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Hi! Classico Limewash can be applied to interior brick as long as it's absorbent. If it's being applied to interior drywall, a coat of MicroGrip Primer is needed as a base coat to ensure the product can adhere. However, we recommend out Velatura Mineralwash for limewash looks on interior drywall.

If the exterior brick has already been painted a solid color, can I still use this product and what would the effects be?
    ByMar 4, 2025
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

If the surface has already been painted, it is likely unabsorbent and requires MicroGrip Primer as a base coat before Classico Limewash could be applied. This ensures the limewash has a proper mineral base to adhere to. Because Classico Limewash can't be distressed when applied over primer, it would need to be applied for full coverage. You may consider Masonry Flat as an alternative, as it's formulated for full coverage projects, while providing a long-lasting, durable finish. It can be tinted to all the same colors as Classico Limewash, and more!

Does this product help stabilize spalling brick? Do you have a lime masonry product?
      ByDec 22, 2024
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Unfortunately, none of our products are formulated to repair damaged brick. We recommend reaching out to a mason for this matter. However, our Classico Limewash, Lime Slurry, and Venetian Glaze are all mineral paints formulated for absorbent stone/brick. I hope this helps!

Can you tent limewash paint? Darker?
        ByNov 12, 2024
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Hi! Classico Limewash can be tinted to light to medium-light colors, as dark as our Nube Gray - see https://www.homedepot.com/p/ROMABIO-1-qt-Nube-Gray-Limewash-Interior-Exterior-Paint-10114/303053854. For darker colors, you may consider Masonry Flat for color transformation, or Venetian Glaze for semi-transparent color shifting effects.

We have an 84 year old white brick house that has never been painted. The brick is dirty and stained in places. Will this cover well on white brick?
            ByAug 16, 2024
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

You would need to clean the brick thoroughly before applying the product. It is worth noting that brick that old will have absorbed a lot of minerals and pollutants over the years. They may bleed through any paint you apply, but it typically happens faster with mineral paints. If that happens, you should reach out to the team at info@romabio.com and they can explain how to spot treat those areas.

What’s the difference between this product & the one you sell specifically for fireplaces? Are there any special instructions for using this product on an interior, unpainted red brick fireplace? Which brush/tools do you recommend?
              ByJul 4, 2024
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

There is no difference. The fireplace kit just includes some items, such as the brush to help the project. You can purchase the Romabio Masonry Brush separately if you prefer. Always test the surface with water to be sure it can absorb it. If your surface can't absorb water readily, it won't hold the limewash either so that is the first step. If it can, dilute Classico Limewash 50% to 100% with clean water (1 part limewash to between 1/2 and 1 part water). The less water, the fuller the coverage. Then distress the areas you'd like to see the brick come thru. Contact us at info@romabio.com if you need more help.

                Answer This Question

The product works on raw natural brick only. It can't stick to any kind of synthetic materials without MicroGrip primer or another mineral-based primer.

This is the first time I have tried Romabio. I had an old fireplace that had red brick which made it look early American. I was able to transform the fireplace using this lime wash to update and improve the look. It was very easy to apply and the process was very easy. I definitely would use this again for any of my brick projects.

                  Don’t Hesitate - Buy It!
I bought this product to update our old 1950’s orange tone stone fireplace and I’m so pleased with the result! I wish I would have done this years ago! I used Nube Gray. Initially I was nervous how dark the paint was after mixing with water but it dries much lighter, which I was hoping for. I mixed with more water than instructed (sorry, Romabio) and I’m happy I did! I diluted with 850-900 mL water (vs the 500-700 mL as advised). I used a paint sprayer instead of a masonry brush which made the job wayyyyy easier. Highly recommend this product!!

worked great. a friend recommended i use this for white washing my red brick fireplace. This stuff looks like playdoh but when you mix it with water it becomes thinner than paint. I used a regular 3" brush to apply it, starting with the mortar and then the brick itself. Some people apply the entire brick and then dab it with a sponge to remove some of it, but I just applied it carefully to not cover the brick 100% white, it gave me a really good look where the red brick is still slightly visible.

                    Solution for ugly brick
This is exactly what I needed. Used a 50/50 mix to hide ugly peach brick and could not be happier with the results. It dried in a matte finish and still allows the brick texture to show. I wanted a product that would allow the brick to breathe. I applied with a masonry brush or large paint brush depending on how much I needed to control the splatter. I used a little over 2 quarts and took probably 4 hours total for all the brick accents on front of my house.

                      Beautiful Warm White
Our interior us painted in a warm ivory and I found that the Avorio White blended seamlessly with our monochromatic esthetic. A great achievement, since it was important that the color not appear cold and stark. Limewash is the perfect solution, since it doesn't coat the brick in a thick layer; instead, it looks natural and as though it came with the house. I like the specs of darker brick that I left polling through from the original brick color. Enough to give it a delightfully aged look.
