Only saw needed?

I am a beginner. If I bought this saw, could I use it for all my DIY projects, or would I also need a table saw? (I already have a circular saw). Thanks!
Asked by: Laura
If you are doing plank flooring of any kind, you need a table saw to rip pieces. I don't know why anyone would try to use a circular saw for ripping. It can only be done on large sheets. Narrow boards have to have a table saw.

Asked by: Cake
The sliding saw is 15 amps. The compound saw is 13 amps.

Customer Reviews

RYOBI 15 Amp 10 in. Sliding Miter Saw with Laser is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 1654.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Initial disappointment I purchased this saw today, took it home, and read the instructions and learned how to fine tune the adjustments. I have not yet used the tool, I will add to this review as I begin to use it. My initial impression is that the saw is well made and I look forward to using it. However, I ran into problems during initial setup. The tool Ryobi supplies to tighten screws is not good. I tried to use it to square the fence, however the tool (allen wrench) was loose in the screws. I managed to loosen 3 of the screws, however because the 4th was so tight and the tool loose in the hole, I managed to strip the inside of the screw where the allen key sits. Without being able to loosen this screw, I can't square the fence to the blade. I went to Ryobi's website to report the problem and have yet to hear back from them. In my update, I will let you know if Ryobi responded to my concern and how they addressed the problem. Also, I will update on my impressions on using the saw for my home reno.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazingly capable saw and great value This review is for hobby use, not professional use. I was skeptical buying a Ryobi saw to replace my failing one. Normally I buy Bosch. But the reviews said the DeWalt was THE saw to buy. Knowing my projects, I couldn't justify the $500+ price difference. I looked at all the readily available saws and got my hands on all the demo units. The Ryobi send to have a lot going for it. It had a better package of features and specs than competing models. You had to spend a lot more for little gain. I decided to but the saw and I could not be happier! The rail system is smooth and stable. It stays clean and smooth during use. The laser is as accurate as any I have used. The platten is secure and easy to adjust. It cuts smoothly and straight time after time. The sliding more cuts angles in large 2x lumber and can easily slice through 4x material. The dust collection is very effective and easy to hook up to a vacuum. It also folks away quickly and easily for storage. The strength of this saws performance had lead me to other Ryobi products. I'm definitely glad I have them a try.

This is a great saw at a great price, but it does have one significant flaw. They’ve opted for a tension based work clamp. It didn’t seem like a big deal at first but it is. Example: I have 8 identical cuts to make. With a normal locked down clamp, I make the cut, loosen the clamp half a turn, move the board, half turn back down, cut again. However with a tension based clamp it’s just going to collapse and you’ve got to mess with it after every cut. Second problem, because of the design of the base, you can’t really use any other sort of clamp. There isn’t a flat surface on the top or bottom to solidly clamp down with. Third, it’s a bit dangerous to use a sliding miter saw without a clamp. With non-sliding, I’d just use my hand to hold the wood, but with sliding you really can’t do that, especially not safely. Overall this clamp design really holds back an otherwise excellent saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool; worth the price I bought this in advance of installing laminate flooring. Very glad I did as this tool was really a game changer for the job. If I had bought one that was not sliding, I don't think I would have been able to do the work as easily and quickly. Honestly though, the extra money to get the sliding feature is absolutely worth it as this make the tool that much more versatile. It's also light enough to move around, and set on a folding table. Just make sure you clamp some blocks for the front and back to keep it in place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent saw! I’m going to be honest and say that this saw was not the saw that I walked into the store with the intent to purchase. I had another miter saw on my list after I did a lot of research. However, when I got to the store I saw a deal that was too good to pass up on this saw and stand. I decided to take a gamble and make my first Ryobi purchase. I got the saw and stand home and set them up immediately. I changed the blade to a trusty Diablo, which I do on every saw I purchase. The stand is nice looking with the black and grey paint and is really solid and sturdy. The saw feels sturdy and looks solid at first glance also. Out of the box my saw blade and fence were square and the laser was accurate. Even if that wasn’t the case, adjusting these things are simple and the instructions for doing so are clear. I started my first project (a patio table) as soon as it was set up and I am very pleased with how the saw handled all the cuts that I threw at it. Overall I am extremely pleased with my unexpected first Ryobi purchase, and I can honestly say that I don’t think it will be my last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from better than expected ! Not the top of the line miter saw but is super easy to lock, unlock, and make all kinds of adjustments to. It has been super useful in renovating my daughter's house. Way above my expectations. My son bought the same one and recommended it.

I was looking for a new miter saw that was affordable and reliable and found this Ryobi. I bought it about 5 months ago and it has not given me 1 problem. The blade it comes with was sharp and made really clean cuts. I was amazed at how versatile this saw was for the price! The measurements on it were exact and easy to read and all the nobs and adjustments work with ease. It has a decent footprint, which I really love because I am able to store it in my shop and out of the way. The only thing I don't use on the saw is the work clamp. I ended up taking it off because it was getting more in my way when I used it than it was helping. If you are looking for a really versatile miter saw and don't want to break the bank, I strongly suggest buying this saw!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beware the slide arms At first it seemed like straight cuts, whether 90 degrees, mitered, or beveled, were easy. This miter saw is very convenient in that the miter control and bevel control are simple. No problem there. And the blade is easy to change out, assuming you pay attention to the instruction book (like I did), and turn the bolt counter-clockwise to tighten. However, I found that after a few sliding cuts and looking closely at the work piece, the blade left an annoying circular indentation where the blade finished the slide cut. I checked and re-checked to make sure everything was tight, angled correctly, etc., but the indentation was still there. The only solution I've found is either 1) immediately pull away the left side of your work piece; or 2) pull the miter saw handle to the right to keep it from naturally drifting left. If Ryobi could keep the slide system from drifting left or right, I would've given this a 4-star review. If the laser would actually be parallel to the pencil line and blade, it'd get 5 stars.
