Questions & Answers

What's the difference between this Ryobi Miter Saw Stand and the $99 Ryobi one also listed on the Home Depot website (Model # A18MS01G)?

Asked by: Potluck
So there's some differences in the specifications. Weight, length, etc. I now own both stands, and there are true differences: This one is smaller. That is, it is both narrower and shallower. Narrower, the length of the rails is shorter, about 3 feet long as opposed to 4 feet long. This is consistent with the overall spread with the tool supports of 7 feet vs 9 feet. Shallower, the rails are slightly closer together. And as a result, the tool mounts are slightly different. And not completely interchangeable. The smaller mount likely won't go on the larger saw stand. And the larger mount will go on the smaller stand, but the grip is not tight. That's probably only a problem if you want to set up the stand to do repeated cuts. I have mounts from the larger stand on my miter saw. And mounts from the smaller stand on my miter table. And a spare set of mounts for the larger table.

This isn't the intended use of any table saw, and it's unlikely it will work this much against type.

Just unboxed mine. The slide does not operate smoothly. It's like metal on metal and moves with resistance. Is there an adjustment to resolve this or is this normal for this saw? Thank you.
Asked by: Lars
Check the slide lock knob which is a screw with a gray knob attached one of the slides. Make sure that's free and clear. Also, I sprayed a little silicon spray on the slides and that made the saw slide flawlessly. Try PB Blaster silicon spray, also available at Home Depot. Very happy with my purchase and this saw works very well.

Now I will temper my enthusiasm...this is the first saw of its type I have owned, so I do not have a comparative. However after years of working with a skill saw and jig saw, I finally purchased this model a couple of weeks ago. My first project is a wall mounted “L-shape” pantry/ book case shelves made with Poplar, comprised of 42 pieces of wood. Since the house is now 25 years old, the walls are not 100% true, maybe they never were. The point is each piece needed to measured and hand fitted to produce a finished product. This saw was precise, clean cutting and real pleasure to use. It worked out of the box. (I did verify the saw line and laser before cutting) For daily construction use, I don’t have long term experience with it, nor will I use it every week. However, for projects at home for the serious amateur this saw provides a lot of versatility – perfect! On anything under 10" I will not be using a skill saw again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Saw The Price The Ryobi 12 inch compound mitre saw I recently purchased is a pretty decent saw for the price. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a saw like this for home projects or the wood hobbyist. It took a little work to get the saw fence lined up properly with the blade. The slots provided in the fence did not enable enough adjustment to square it up and I had file the slots some to get it square. This was not difficult as the aluminum the fence is made of is soft and files easy. The only remaining problem I have with it is, as you slide the saw out to the widest cut, it tracks slightly off center and the laser alignment line also moves a bit. I adjusted the fence to split the difference in this offset of the track. It is okay for narrow dimensional wood, but for wider wood it is off a little. So, if you need to cut perfectly, I would suggest a more expensive saw.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great saw stand, robust, functional! I love this saw stand because it is built well, robust, is very functional and easy to use. I bought this at the store for $50, I searched online and found nothing comparible for that low price. I purchased another brand online and ended up returning it since it was defective and was not built as well. Once set up for the first time, this stand is easy to set up and breakdown. Though it does not have actual rollers for the material supports, I found that the stationary cylinders work fine. I was very excited about the adjustable material stops on each material support, these come in handy when cutting several pieces that are the same length. The reason for only 4 stars is that this stand does not come with hardware to attach a saw with offset mounting holes. I was surprised about this since the lower quality stand I bought first included this hardware. I actually have an older model ryobi mitre saw and the rear mounting holes are offset from the front ones. I had some metal brackets made to mount my saw.

The only problem I've found is that when truing up the end of the board, the narrow pieces fall into the hole and are hard to get out unless you take the time to remove the plate. They sometimes catch the blade and go flying if you don't clean them out. This is a pain especially when you have many cuts to make and people have to wait while you clean.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great features I bought this saw to replace my old one, I really like but it is one messy saw. After I hooked it up to my dust collector, I discovered that the dust port is very narrow and only the saw dust that is directly in front of the port is collected. The majority of the dust accumulates on and around the saw and most of it is on the floor'.
