Will this saw cut small tree branches?

Want a saw that I can use to trim small tree limbs without having to use chain saw.

Yes, in fact that was my rational for purchasing one. Its portability was its most outstanding feature.

Will it cut through 19 gauge metal sheet roofing?
Asked by: Judy
Yes. A plunge cut would need a pilot hole drilled beforehand and the appropriate blade made for cutting the mild steel. If you are wanting to crosscut a panel, I would use a circular saw - and be sure to wear eye protection!

Will the battery & charger included with my/the Ryobi One+ Cordless Jet Fan Blower work with the Reciprocating Saw, or is another type required?
Asked by: Tom
Well it certainly is supposed to, though I can not address the question directly. The battery system is suited to over 150 Ryobi One+ devices, per their literature and press releases.

18-Volt ONE+ Cordless Reciprocating Saw (Tool-Only) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 1055.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just right for a home owner. I bought this unit several weeks ago to do wrecking crew on some very old and large pallets made of 2x4s and 1x4s and filled with 10 penny nails that had been built in the basement by the previous home owner decades ago to serve as a raised floor for the washer and dryer and surrounding area. Most of it had to go and be chopped up and hauled away. I needed a reciprocating saw because the pallet was built laying on the basement floor and had to be cut where it lay on the cement. The saw made it through these old boards and cut the nails without too much protest (using an appropriate rated blade). It also worked great making good straight right angle cuts on boards that I repurposed. Since that project, I have used the saw for heavy pruning of tree branches. I was surprised how long the battery charge lasted but I am contemplated buying a larger capacity battery. I've being using the one that came with my Ryobi drill. It isn't very heavy given how much work it can do. Things go flying depending on what you are cutting so always wear gloves and eye protection.

I purchased a Ryobi reciprocating saw, because I was planning to use the same battery platform across my new power tools, but the saw broke on the second use; I was sawing a 1" diameter branch and the saw blade stuck and the saw was not powerful enough to continue cutting, thus getting the blade stuck and bending it. The motor no longer worked and I tried to remove the blade, but now the saw is in the trash. I also purchased the Ryobi sprayer. I had this sprayer for about one year and used it maybe 10 times and the on/off button will not work and the spring in the wand is broken. I wouldn't be so frustrated if Ryobi made it easier to submit for warranty support, but it has taken much research, only to find that there are no service centers in the Phoenix area. Also, I'm very handy, so I thought that I could just replace the parts myself, but Ryobi never has the replacement parts in stock. The value of the Ryobi tools is good, but they are more like toys than real-world, everyday power tools. I'm going to spend the extra money and buy Dewalt!

I own both this and the previous version of the Ryobi chorded reciprocating saw (RYOBI RJ165V) and there is no comparison.  I purchased this unit last year to replace the former, and it has proven indispensable.  I have a large property in a wooded lot filled with beech trees.  This tool coupled with Diablos 9 inch pruning blades (Model # DS0905FG5 Internet #203464786 Store SKU #320763) have turned what used to be a landscape nightmare into an enjoyable experience.  No longer do I need to get out the chainsaw or daisy-chain electrical chords to take care of pruning brush.  This unit has an impressive battery life that allows me to work in the yard for hours without interruption.  The blades often fail faster than the battery, and the performance is top notch.  I've used this saw for everything from small sticks, to cutting firewood, to sawing through eight-inch diameter trees.  I could not recommend it more highly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I bought this primarily for cutting schedule 20, 35, and... I bought this primarily for cutting schedule 20, 35, and 40 PVC pipe on our house project. So far it has made it through the install of our septic field with piping to the house, the install of ~1000' of 1.5", 3" and 4" underground conduit and the initial install of the 4" sewer lines inside the house. I am sure I'll have more uses as the project progresses. Also used it to cut the steel lifting rings off of our well tile. Already had a corded Ryobi reciprocating saw, but don't have power to the project yet and needed the cordless option. With a 4 amp hour battery we've had no problem working all day with the jobs so far. Good power and easy cutting.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really Wanted This To Work! I was amped up for Ryobi days at Home Depot. I wanted a recip saw that could help me out around the house (small limb trimming, pallet takedowns etc...) so I jumped on this recip saw. After fully charging the batteries I went to take down a few pallets. I was really let down, when only after one pallet the saw was smoking and the battery was dead!? The P516 recip saw and the p166 18v 3Ah battery are worthless. I hate to be negative about things, but please do not buy this gutless saw. I will be taking both back. However, the anti vibe technology, as well as the superior ergonomics of this saw sets the standard high. Really wish it worked

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have Not Used It Yet! I bought the 3 Ah twin pack with charger and carrying case that was on sale for $99.99. Which included a free tool from the 18V ONE+ systems. I picked the Reciprocating Saw because I already have many of the tools in the series. Grass trimmer, leaf blower, pole saw, hedge trimmer, drills, impact driver, circular saw, grinder, flashlight with many 1.5 Ah batteries and chargers that came with them. I have not used it yet. I do expect to be using it soon. It sure is nice to be able grab the tool you need with out dragging an extension cord around with you. I gave 5 stars and will continue to buy tools from this series as I need them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overcoming the impossible. My son and I were clearing a roadway into some recreation property and had two large maples, both around 32" diameter, that were in the way and needed removal. Bringing in a bulldozer for just the two trees was cost prohibited so we brainstormed a plan to remove them the old fashioned way - dig them up and pull them down like the Orcs of "Lord of the Rings". We secured the hand wenches, pulleys, and specialty ropes and began the project in earnest. Then we came upon the root ball of the tree buried in the gravel and dirt and realizing all the rock would make for a dangerous and debilitating job for the Stihl chainsaw. This is where the Ryobi Variable Speed Reciprocating Saw came into its own, as it was quite capable of getting into the mess safely while making quick work of the roots, some of them quite large. Seriously, without the Ryobi, the project would have taken a great deal longer and been much more frustrating and difficult - in a sense, a little hero coming to our aid. The two trees were pulled down and removed, root ball and all, and without disturbing the rest of the property. The Ryobi ended up saving me a great deal of money, time and effort. The reciprocating saw was eventually stolen, along with the other tools, from the property. I have just recently replaced some, namely the 1/4" impact driver, and the 1/2" impact wrench, with numerous batteries and bit assortments - thanks to Ryobi Days!
