Does the gun back off pressure?

So I have to buy a batt and charger. All I have is Dewalt elect tools

Asked by: jumpin
Yes, you do. However, I have found after 30 years experience that Ryobi has really stepped up their game. I find their family of products to be as good as Dewalt.

We purchased 4 of these guns to do a factory rework job, in a light manufacturing environment. After about 2 weeks of use, one shift per day, these things were totally shot. The ring on the front of one gun broke off and had to be screwed back on. These things are just starting to fall apart. Two of the guns had tube blowouts, but I'm not sure if I can blame that on the design of the gun. The fit of the silicone tube with the gun is a bit loose. If you let your finger off the trigger, the ram pulls backwards, and requires an agonizing 20 second wait until pressure starts again. I think this is due to the loose fit of the gun to the tube. One good thing is that battery life has been good. Also, the price for the bare tool is very fair, so I'm OK with eating through a few guns in order to get this job done. Just keep this in mind if you are looking for a long term solution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What Did I Do Before I Got This!!?? What Did I Do Before I Got This? I spent hours pumping caulk by hand - until I got cramps - trying to control the flow for a uniform bead. More hours wiping up the "ooze" that was inevitable after each pass. The Ryobi delivers a uniform bead - you just have to adjust the speed control and the speed of your arms to lay a bead that often required no smoothing or raking. When they did, I used the plastic smoother set ("As Sold on TV") that Home Depot has in stock. And the best part?! When you release the trigger, the flow stops immediately! I think the motor backs up a bit to suck that last bit of caulk back into the tube. Because of that, there's a short lag when you pull the trigger for the next pass before the caulk starts. I laid down 9 tubes of caulk on my newly sided garage in about an hour. Caution! The caulk comes out fast, even at the slowest speed setting! Cut the tube with a smaller opening then you would think (like 1/16" for a 1/8" bead, as shown in photo) until you get used to the machine. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!

The ratchet handle when extended tends to be in the way, especially in tight spaces. The gun dispenses caulk too quickly, even at its slowest setting, even with a small hole in the caulk tube. Aside from these short comings, the gun is handy if doing large seams and can save much time without cramping your grip. I would recommend this to a person with a large project - or to a professional. It is just overkill for a small job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this gun I was very sceptical of reviews I read online about this gun, but when my job required me using a caulking gun almost everyday I decided to purchase because the price was good. I’m used to using heavy duty nailing guns for house framing powered by air compressors, so this caulking gun would have to be real good like the reviews I read to impress me. I bought didn’t use it for almost a week, it was started to feel like a waste of money to me, so I decided to use it the last working day of the week I bought it. I expected it to be just ok but it’s actually way better than I thought. I now use this gun 99 percent of the time. It’s really fast and stops releasing caulking as soon as you move your finger on the trigger. I know it’s so great, why not 5stars? I wish the gun had a hook as I do a lot of caulking in the ceiling at times which led to it falling maybe 4’ from my ladder. Gun was durable but not durable enough to work so well as it did before it fell. By that I mean the lowest level of the gun started to release more caulking than it did before. I wanted to return it but I figured how to work with it and still like it. I would definitely by another one I love this gun!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from surprised at the quality and performance Me and my dad just built a 10' x 16' storage shed in the backyard and there was a ton of caulking to be done... We used silicon as well as heavy duty liquid nails with this caulk gun, man am I glad we made the purchase... To be honest we held on to the receipt & box because we weren't sure it would do the job... When we opened the box we were surprised at how well it was built... After going threw about 40 tubes of caulk with a green power light still showing on the battery and the caulking looking like a pro did it... We are very happy indeed... We even re-caulked the tub/shower and toilet in one bathroom... Bottom line: This is a quality tool, built very well with good weight distribution so fatigue wasn't an issue... just a heads up: when you use it for the first time, turn the dial to the slowest setting, then adjust speed from there, also it does take a few seconds for the caulk to flow but it wasn't a big deal...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great invention, saved me lots of time/pain. Once a year I need to do job that requires me to use 35-40 tubes of sticky goop from a caulk tube on a building. I used to do it manually until my wife came across this gun and bought it for me. The job used to take me 9-10 hours and my hands were shot at the end of the day from squeezing the old school gun. With this gun, I was able to not only save my hands from the pain but I can do the job in 5-6 hours easily. I used the small Lithium ion battery and never had to recharge during the job. The only complaint I had is more user error than a slight on the product, a co worker didnt realize the tub had a seal in it and needed to be punctured. He kept pulling the trigger, the gun was pushing so hard it bend the rod that presses the goop out. It doesnt seem to be a problem, it still functions as usual but it makes the tubes raise up in the track a little once I get to the end of a tube. So it seems to be plenty powerful! This is a cheap enough tool to make it worth it for almost any job, big or small.

The speed control allows you to apply a smooth consistent bead regardless of the consistency of the product or size of the tip opening. Let go of the trigger, and poof, the pressure is automatically released. I went thru 6 tubes on a single battery charge!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 7 Years Strong I've had my Ryobi 18V Caulking Gun for going on 7 years STRONG! It doesn't get used daily but still a key tool in my construction MUST HAVE kit! Regulate the flow from slow to extra fast. I've applied an entire tube of sealant in under a minute or feathered it doen to slow for precision needs. Find that the caulking will still flow a bit even after you stop the trigger ... much as a traditional caulking frame will. Learning the flow control takes a little practice but not hard to get the hang of. As you can tell my my picture, it holds up well even with poor maintenance. Works with the old & new batteries and has a descent weight ballance to it.
