If the diameter of the tree branch is 3.75 inches or less, then it will fit in the saw.

Does this have a fence

I want to use this to also cut straight lines. Does this come with a fence like a table saw?
Asked by: michael
Hello Michael this is Cerah with Ryobi. This band saw does is not supplied with a fence. When using the band saw for straight line cutting, the user can install a fence using an appropriately sized piece of wood clamped to the table with “C” clamps. It is not capable of making inside or non-through cuts. Thanks for your interest in the Ryobi brand product.

Can't decide on this or the scroll saw. Wouldn't this saw also do scroll work? Not a big price difference.
Asked by: Joseph
The easiest way to decide between Band or Scroll saws is to ask yourself if your going to be doing any inside cuts because a band saw cant do em.By inside cuts I mean circles or shapes in the middle of a piece of wood.

2.5 Amp 9 in. Band Saw is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 304.

I noticed that the box had been opened when I bought it, but it was the only one on the shelf, so I chose it anyway. When I got it home and put together, I found that it didn't cut worth a bean. The cuts were very slow, and the blade wanted to cut through the wood at an angle, so I couldn't get a straight cut. Upon closer inspection, I found that the blade was dull. It looked like someone had tried to cut metal with it. The previous "owner" had dulled the blade, then returned the saw. I went back to the store, found a 3 pack of 62 inch blades, and complained to the returns clerk. She offered that I pay $5 for 3 blades and my troubles - a good offer, and I took it. The saw now cuts as expected. Looking about on the internet, it seems that 62 inch metal cutting blades are not easy to come by. Not to worry. My friend who works at Ace Hardware says that they can make bandsaw blades of whatever length you need, right there in the store, metal cutting or otherwise. I plan on getting a metal cutting blade soon.

Set up was relatively easy including the blade adjustment. The size isn't too big and I will be able to store the saw at the end of my workbench. I used my portable B&D workbench to mount and hold the saw when I used it.The blade that came with it is a bit wide for making curved cuts, so I suggest buying other sizes. I bought the Bosch 3-pk set and it has 3 different width blades including a narrow one for tighter curves. I look forward to my next project.

Ryobi was the least expensive and offers EXCELLENT technical support. Customer Service is a HUGE plus for me. The blade it comes with is just fine for wood. Not so with metal, so expect to buy more blades. It is relatively quiet and runs relatively smoothly (for such an inexpensive tool). It creates a huge amount of dust so I highly recommend utilizing the vacuum port feature. The blade-centering adjustment and window work very well. Operation is simple enough, although I found the layout of the controls to be un-ergonomic. If you're going to run the tool perpendicular to yourself so you can access the table adjustment and readily see the blade-centering window, then the power switch is in a very awkward place. If you run it parallel to yourself, the table controls, tension adjuster, etc are now in the back and the window for blade centering is on the side. This is how I run mine. The table was not square out of the box and needed adjustment. I find Ryobi's fascination with miter guides unusual. They seem to come with everything and are of dubious utility for each power tool of theirs I own. The BIGGEST downfall to the saw is it's lack of a rip fence, and it's lack of ability to accommodate one. I've seen some people rig up a chunk of metal C-clamped to the table, but really how much would it cost to provide such a feature? 20 cents? 50 Cents? I'll end up paying 500X that cost in parts and labor to rig one up.

I can’t even put this on craigslist in good conscience. Generally when a product is this bad, I return it. But in this case, all the original packing material is gone. it was cheap, so I guess I’ll just stick it on the curb and see who takes it. I tried everything. I spent meticulous hours in the adjustment process. It’s simply will not cut straight, end of story. Some people suggest that a new blade will help, but I’m not willing to make the investment. Good money after bad. If your expectation is that this is a precision tool, forget about it. If you’re doing things free hand without using a mitre or fence, perhaps this will work for you. But for me, this tool was maddening.

Ryobi to me means great value, this saw is no different. I would call it a beginners saw or maybe a light DIYer saw. If you just can't decided if you want a band saw or not, this maybe for you. A 9 inch saw at this price is enough of a saw to last you a long time if it meets your needs or a great way to learn what you need in a bandsaw. This saw does it all, just a little on the small side. The instructions are well wrote, but to get a better view, check out this saw on YouTube. So far, very happy with this saw.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Hobby Saw This is the exact same model as the previous blue model, just with the new Ryobi colours. If there are any blue models left in your local HD, save yourself a few bucks and get the blue one. You have to set your expectations accordingly with most Ryobi tools, and this one is no different. It's geared toward the hobbyist/diy person and it's priced accordingly. Do not expect a 14" Powermatic if you are buying a 9" Ryobi. Setup is easy enough. Make sure you follow the instructions and watch a few band saw setup videos on YouTube if you need to. Setup is crucial for this saw to perform to the best of it's abilities, but once done, it does a good job. You are still limited to it's 3.5" cut height and 9" depth, but is fine within those boundaries. The only issue that I've had with this saw is that I can not keep a 1/8" blade on it. I thought it was operator error until I reinstalled the 1/4" blade quickly and without error. I'm thinking the low grade tires are the culprit and that is what I'll try next. Overall, I'm glad I purchased it, but Im already seeing the need for a larger saw.

Opened the box and removed it from the plastic bag, and was surprised to see it was damaged at the top. Took pictures of the damage, and there was no damage to the knobs on top, just the frame. Our conclusion was this occurred prior to the final packing at the factory. Looks to us to be a lack in quality control inspectors. Please look at the pictures as you will see the knob on top has no damage so the damage to the frame was preassembly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The worst Ryobi purchase I've ever made I have multiple Ryobi tools and they all have met my needs, however this is sub par, even for a hobbyist. The unit worked well for two weeks however since then, no matter what adjustments I've made, the blade tension is no longer there. I've tried 2 different brands for the blades but the blade still wanders and twists. I received it as a gift so I don't have a receipt. If I did, I would take it back and aplly those funds to a better unit.
