Fantastic Sandpaper
I love using good sandpaper on my orbital sander when I am sanding rough lumber and this ryobi sandpaper is no joke. It’s amazing! This 5 inch sandpaper comes in 3 different grits 220, 120, and 80. It has very good Velcro on the back with perfectly sized holes for catching sawdust in many different brands of sanders. As you can see in the pictures it is good quality and I’m happy with the product.

Does not fit standard 1-1/4" vacuum hoses
I bought this a few days ago thinking that I could connect it to my shop vacuum through a 2-1/2" to 1-1/4" hose adapter. (See page 8 of the Operators Manual). I discovered that the adapter or any of our vacuum hoses will not work because the hole for the hose is 1-1/8" in diameter. Forcing a 1-1/4" fitting in would break the plastic housing. I was however able to make it work by inserting part of a 4" section of 3/4" ID PVC pipe into the adapter and wrapping the other end with some friction tape and inserting that into the sander. The 3/4" pipe section restricts the air flow when compared to the 1-1/4" I was hoping for but the dust collection is still good enough. Other than that, it is working OK for me.

Fast cutting, smooth finish, no loading.
I’ve been buying more Ryobi items lately, not a lot; but a few here and there depending on circumstances. I wasn’t pleased really with the brand of sandpaper I was using for the last 7-8 years, so I figured why not try this Ryobi paper and see how it holds up. Inside the package was 3x 80 grit, 2x 120 grit, and 2x 220 grit. The first thing I noticed was that all the dust/exhaust holes in the paper lined up perfectly with the base pad and all of the dust/exhaust holes on my 5” Skil orbital sander. The old brand I used was always out of round and the holes never lined up right which created thick dust clouds. My old brand would also spontaneously tear away from the Velcro backing, usually on a brand new piece if the base pad was hot from friction, and then never stick to the sander again. To test the paper I ran a piece of 80 grit on an 1’ by 8’ strip of OSB that I’m going to use as a temporary substrate while I’m bending pre-painted rolled aluminum wrapping. I only sanded it to ensure I didn’t mar up the painted finish as I’m trying to work it. After about 30 minutes of sanding it was fairly smooth and the paper was still cutting nicely. There was little to no loading on the paper. Any dust was easily brushed away. Most of the dust was being sucked into the cartridge filter on the sander as well, which dramatically improved the air quality compared to the old brand I used. I then swapped out the 80 grit for a piece of 120 grit next to sand up some 1” x 3” wood that I’d ripped in half on the table saw. This was going to be put up as casing on a front door I’d just installed. The 120 grit made quick work of the pine and was smooth enough for my needs within about 5 minutes. There was a bit more loading on the 120 grit compared to the 80 grit, but a soft brush took care of it easily. The biggest gains I noticed over the brand I used previously were: 1. The paper seems not load up or burn the dust into the paper. It continues to cut well even after long periods of use. 2. The glued backing doesn’t separate from the paper backing when the sander heats up from friction. 3. The exhaust holes for wood dust are perfectly positioned, for my sander anyway, which significantly reduced the saturation of wood particles in the air, thereby improving air quality. I plan on sticking with this paper for the foreseeable future; I’d only be taking steps backwards if I didn’t.

    A great project pack
I like this variety pack because it is excellent for a complete project from rough sanding all the way to fine finishing. Though these are Ryobi products, the perfectly fit my Milwaukee random orbital sander and have the same hook & loop attachment system. This pack is enough to sand and finish a medium piece of furniture and then some! Great Ryobi quality as well.

Overall very good quantity. Thicker than some others out there. Very easy to switch back and forth and no issues with the backing. All the discs are pretty sturdy and easy to use. It fist any other sander out there. Doesn’t have to be specific to a Ryobi. The package comes with different grits. They are economical. No gaps when mounting. One disc lasted an tire sanding of a one bedroom furniture. Would keep buying.

This orbit sand paper kit worked exactly as I thought. These fit my Dewalt orbital sander perfectly with the holes matching perfectly for the dust vents. I used them for a backsplash project, I had removed old brick plastic plating leaving my wall very rough. This pack had 80 grit, 120, grit, and 220 grit, and I used all of them to make my wall flat for my project.

This multi pack (seven total) of assorted sanding discs is perfect if you are doing a small project and need various different grits of sandpaper during your finishing process. Obviously it is compatible with the Ryobi branded sanders. The discs themselves are of fairly good quality, and would fit any brand orbital sander with eight dust collection holes.

First of all I have to admit I like Ryobi products and I have a good number of them. So when I saw this variety pack of 5" random orbital sander sanding disks I wanted to give them a try. My project is transforming a wooden tool cabinet that I built over 20 years ago into a coffee machine / condiments cart. The pack comes with 3 x 80 grit disks, 2 x 120 grit disks and 2 x 220 grit disks, which is pretty much what I use on stain and sealer projects. I like the hook and loop fasteners (aka velcro) over adhesive backed or mechanical grip attachment systems. I have had the adhesive disks fly off... fortunately away from me and not toward me, I have yet to have these hook and loop disks fly off. The attached photos show the disks and the transformation of the well used top to the finish I'm looking for, kind of a rustic finish with the wood grain of the plywood being shown off.,

RYOBI 5” Seven Piece Random Orbit Sand Paper (A21701) comes with a “Variety” of grits. The discs 8 holes for dust collection matched my non-Ryobi sander perfectly. The three grits provided – 80, 120, 220 – are a good selection for general duty sanding. The paper cuts well without loading up excessively. I appreciate that the plastic packaging was labeled for recycling. My complaint is that there is no indication on the packaging, and no way to determine without opening the package, what the additional grits are or how many there are. I can see that one is P220 but there is no way to see the other grits provided or how many of each. I would be asking for assistance at the store to open the package to determine this. As a consumable item, warranty against defective parts and labor only. Made in China; Imported by Mexico.

The Ryobi 7-piece orbit sand paper is great for this crafter. When my new puppy decided he wanted to use my curio table as a teething ring, I simply looked for metal corner pieces and refinished the table. The variety pack of sand paper allowed me to strip the old stain, smooth out the bite marks and prepare the the table with a new coat of stain. The table turned out great! If you’ve got a refinishing project, I would recommend this sand paper!!

Ryobi sanding disc variety pack comes with 7 discs. 3 - 80 grit discs. 2 - 120 grits discs and 2 - 240 grit discs. They are economical and they were work most 5 inch orbital sanders. They worked well with my 20 volt DeWalt orbital sander as all holes lined up. The disc them selves hold up well but i really haven't put them through a big project yet.

Very good sanding discs. The backing is tight which avoids the fuzzing of the sanders back up pad. Many cheap discs have a loose, fuzzy backing which makes for poor adhesion when sanding. The grit is well set with no gaps on the mounting. Also the discs don't load up with whatever you are sanding. Even soft woods don't load up the discs. Recommend these for all sanding jobs

This is a good sandpaper variety pack for 5" Random Orbital Sanders typically used by consumers and small professional shops. The 8 hole discs are fuzzy backed and will fit the wide majority of hook & loop based sanders. (Large shops have industrial compressors and use pneumatic tools with adhesive backed abrasive discs.) Includes two 220 grit discs, two 120 grit and three 80 grit discs. These are the grit "steps" that I use in my home shop for wood projects.

This pack of sand paper for 5 inch orbit sanders is a very good quality. Each paper has lasted me through several projects. It sticks well to my Black and Decker orbital sander and does exactly what it is meant to do. One of my projects was to fix our camper's slide out moulding as one of our dogs chewed it next to the sofa. I used a P80 grit first, gave the area a base coat of paint, then used a P220 to fine sand before painting the moulding again. The moulding looks much better than it did before the sanding and painting.

These sandpaper discs do seem to be well made. The dust collection holes are cleanly punched through. The fuzzy backing is affixed well. I removed and replaced one of the 80 grit and 120 grit discs several times and had no issues with the backing pulling off. I have not used the 220 grit from this package yet but I see no reason that it should not work just as fine. The grit number is clearly imprinted on the fuzzy side of each disc. I have had other brand discs that were only printed in one or two spots and some that were not printed as dark. That made it difficult at times to see which disc I was picking up. These do not have that problem.

Bad design makes it not worth the money.
Have had this for a few years for very small projects, and put up with various issues, but now that I am doing more woodworking, I want something easier and better designed. First big issue is the dust bag. It does not stay on the sander. Duct tape will work for a while, but what kind of solution is that? I thought maybe mine was defective, so I bought a replacement bag. Same problem. The bag also does a very poor job of collecting the sawdust when it does stay on. Dust squeezes out of the sides of the bag as though it isn't even there. Finally, the power switch design is bad. There are two push buttons in the grip. Push the one on the left to power on; push the one on the right to cut power. When changing sanding discs, it is way too easy to accidentally turn the power on by pushing in the button on accident. Similarly, if the sander falls over on its left side, the power WILL switch on, causing the sander to bounce around and potentially damage other things. Mine ground an electrical cord nearly in two. I just threw mine out and bought a DeWalt. Not much more cost and much better design.

User Friendly!, Well built! No Rattles!! It's not that loud, it is Inverter Generator Friendly as long as it is 120V, it's got a Powerful motor that really sands, flattens and smoothens the wood, I highly recommend to get more additional sanding pads in different grits on sets because this unit only comes with 3 pieces of sanding pads from 80, 120 to 180 grits only. But overall it's a great Value! I'm happy to have this orbital sander! Much more powerful than the Cordless 18V version of this!

      Piece of cake.
First time ever to buy and to use electric sunder on the deck after spraying it with the Olympic deck cleaner. It is very easy to use at any angle. It's not recommended if the deck is super big, messy, or has a lot of molds. I both the 50 pcs sand disc (Diablo #80) because you need to replace the sand disc so often. Dust bag serves its purpose. Again, I have no woodwork experience, I just watch youtube on how to clean the deck, ask a friend what size of the electric sander to use, and I accomplish my project.

I purchased this orbital sander about 3-4 months ago to sand an old banister prior to staining, etc. Overall the sander works great. I was able to evenly sand the banister in little time and have used for several other projects including sanding composite deck boards. I had to take a little bit off of one of the edges after cutting and this worked perfectly. The cord, motor, velcro pad replacement and power button still work like new. The only negative is the bag, Over the months a small hole has developed which can annoying if you despise cleaning up dust. It didn't really bother me (I patched it up easily) but I can see that others may want to return or contact Ryobi for replacement dust bag. Overall I 'd recommend the product.

Ryobi is a trusted name. That brought me to buy my first Ryobi tool ever. It lasted all of about 20 minutes before throwing a piece of metal partially out of a vent hole after coming apart inside. I guess I won't be buying any more Ryobi tools.

This is the second one I have owned. First one the switch started acting up so some 10 years later it's time for another one. As a small sander I have pushed it beyond it's intended use a few times. Meaning using it to sand down very hard epoxy with high abrasive grit (60) and still stays cool. If you are going to do a lot of sanding hook up a shop vac to it cause it can stir up the dust!

The sander that saved my summer! I had a nightmare scenario prepping my deck for stain. The previous owner slopped on countless coats and never re-stained properly, so I was faced with either doing another shoddy job or hand scrapping (best option over sanding) a whole 13'x15' deck. I decided to do it right and finally, after weeks of tedious work, I finished the hard part but needed to sand off the rough and un-scrappable spots. I picked this Ryobi because I love their battery tools (I LOVE my Ryobi lawnmower) but I went with corded on this tool due to the size of the job. I gave the whole deck a once over with this sander and some 80 grit pads. It quickly finished the job allowing me to get it stained literally in the nick of time for cold weather, saving my weeks worth of work. It took care of all of the splinters and my deck looks like a pro did it. It even did a pretty good job between deck boards. This sander doesn't kill your hands with vibration and it doesn't run hot even with extended use. Pads stick great, and I went through a LOT. The dust catcher is wonderful, but is a little hard to empty and will blow off if it gets too full. When I am done, I just brush the dust off of it with a dustpan brush. This sander is a great quality tool. I'm sure I am going to find plenty of other projects to use it for.
