Q:The tip to the gray plastic piece that holds the blade broke off during the first 10 minutes I used it - right out of the package. I can't find a replace piece without buying a new unit. I did find a competitor unit with a metal alternative. Getting that.

Total junk! Don't waste your time and money!
These things sounded great. But the first time I used them, they wore out half way through the job. And then the head jammed in the trimmer and I had to use a screw driver to pry it out. Shame on Ryobi!

            Killed my tool
The plastic blades would work at first but then they started to make a strange noise. I had to stop, wait for the noise to dissipate, and now the tool that these go into started to smoke. The motor is fried. I have a genuine Ryobi battery. This attachment was too much resistance for the tool's motor and now a cheap attachment has killed the entire tool. Ugh!

              Garbage
Very disappointed in this ryobi product. Only used a couple of times. Thought it would be great for taller grass. It whirs like a helicopter so I thought it would be great. As you see in the picture, the cheap plastic broke while cutting grass and now it’s ruined. What a waste of money. I mean it’s grass for Pete sake.

                Needs work
I have bought this product a few times and have had the same issues. The pins that hold everything together snap off within 1 to 2 uses. Also, the string breaks off in 30 seconds everytime. When it does work it's amazing though.

Hello, Chrisgggggg - We're disappointed to learn of the frustration you're having with this trimmer head! Auto-feed string trimmers are designed to release about a ¼ in. of the line every time the trimmer's trigger is released. And if a user squeezes and releases the trigger continuously, then more and more line will advance, which can lead to wasted line or tangles. So we encourage you to be mindful of this and avoid repeatedly squeezing and releasing the trigger. And we would like to hear more about your experience so we can work this out together! If you would, will you please email us at Reviews@RYOBItools.com?
                  Zero stars
This item deserves zero stars but that’s not an option. Firstly, I installed the strings through the holes and pulled them tight. As soon as I pulled the trigger, the whole piece flew off. When I found it in the grass, the strings had gone completely. Next, I installed the blades and tried them. It worked for a while but then the whole thing came off and flew across the garden. Now the whole advance mechanism is missing and the tool is useless.

                    2 in one pivoting head
As with many others, I have gone through the original that came with the trimmer and a replacement I purchased, as well as a replacement from Ryobi. These are poorly designed. The head heats up in use and the plastic pins that holds the blades in place melt/break rendering the head useless. When it heats up, it will also not stay on the trimmer because the tabs that hold it in place get soft. Do not waste your money.

The line does not stay in, poor quality
It is pretty remarkable that Ryobi has something this poor on the market. The strings will literally fly out of the head and the whole thing is very poorly made. Just terrible.

Poor mounting post design; needs to be solid metal
I thought Ryobi smartened up and realized that the pivot posts (previously made of plastic) we're a poor design and a source of continuous failure. Well, all they did was put a thin metal sleeve over the post that still is the weak link/ failure point in the design. Give that the blades need frequent replacement when edging, this needs to be a solid metal post! Frustrating after you pay the money for the trimmer and the replacement blades to have to be replacing the mounting assembly at least once a season.

                        Ugh!
Since the string no longer works in my weed trimmer (always get caught and tangled , no matter how short the string is), I have to use these heads. They break easily! The part on which the blades are placed easily breaks off, making the entire head unusable. Sometimes it’s just the prong, making me believe that the strings can still be used. Sometimes it’s the entire prong that hosts the string and blade. Very frustrating! Substandard tools with substandard parts!

Hello, Maggie - We're very sorry to hear of the frustration you're having with the lines breaking or tangling! And to help make your line last longer, please be mindful of wire and picket fences as these can cause extra line wear and breakage. Also, stone and brick walls, curbs, and wood may also wear the line rapidly. We hope this helps! And if you'd like to discuss your experience further, then please feel free to email us anytime at Reviews@RYOBItools.com. RYOBIOutdoorTools
