Your best bet is to contact Ryobi C/S and ask them. I would have model number and amperage of the older charger in hand when you talk to them

There is a self-propelled model that costs a little more.

The blade on the mower should you have sharpen every year like a regular mower?

Asked by Debbie October 7, 2020

Answers

Look at the blade: this is the best way to determine if you need sharpening. I have found that if you don't hit anything during you mowing season, you should be OK. Turn the mower on it's side and carefully run your finger along both edges; if you don't feel any nicks, you would probably be O/K for another season

can a Ryobi 40ah battery be used with this lawn mower?

Asked by Nate October 4, 2020

Answers

Nate, please revisit your battery. You are asking questions that do not make sense. If the "40" is preceding volts, this could be the right battery. aH is the capacity of the battery. If your battery looks similar to the battery used by the Ryobi 40 volt series, you should be able to use it on the mower - battery capacity may not be the same as the 6aH that comes with the mower.

My opinion is this mower is light and maneuvers quite easily, way less than a standard mower. I am not familiar with a self propelled model for this mower. If one is available you may wish to consider it.

My mower just dies after about 25 Minutes. I have swapped batteries and that does not help. Over the next 20 minutes it.

Asked by EJL September 25, 2020

Answers

Are you fully charging the battery? If so, It sounds to me that you are trying to cut grass that is too high (thick) if your batteries are fully charged. Suggestion: cut for about fifteen minutes, and check the amount of battery you have left as shown on the led on the battery. Noting the amount of charge left, switch batteries and cut for the same amount of time. If you have used about the same amount of battery, then the batteries are fine, and you have to look elsewhere for the problem.

Why is this more expensive than buying the one battery version and just adding another battery?

Yes you can mow forward and reverse just like a gas mower. Not the safest to cut on a hill, but it will cut the same.

This is a very quiet mower in my opinion. It is about the same noise level as an electric fan on high speed.

Most people know me as a Pro that can fix anything, but as I'm getting on in years, I'm not as 'robust' as I used to be, and I've recently given away all my gas tools: My All-Wheel-Drive mower, several trimmer/edgers, chain saws, Chipper/Shreader/Lawn Vac, etc... I've gone all-in on Battery Power Tools now, and the best price to performance, reliablility, and overall value I've found is the Ryobi line up. I bought this 6-Amp-Hour Battery Mower before Labor Day at a sale price of only $259 (it's $299 today). On my 1/3 acre lot, I can mow my front lawn completely on 2 bars of battery, with 2 bars left for the smaller back yard. So light, at 55 Lbs, and no fuel, oil, air filters, or pull cords; Just insert battery, extend handle, press button, pull lever, and mow! I never have to actually clean it because the under-deck is very slick plastic, and nothiung sticks to it. I also bought the optional rear side-discharge chute, for when I let my grass/weeds get too tall. That works great, too. I'm a tool guy, so I wanted to make sure I had an extra 6 Amp-Hour battery. Several stores showed them in stock, but they were not actually there. I did the math: Extra 6 AH Battery was $189, extra 'cheap' charger was $70, so the price for extra battery and charger was $259 - the SAME as the mower with EVERYTHING. It was a no-brainer that I spend that $259 on another mower, complete with 6 AH Battery and charger! So now I have 100% spare everything. Call me lucky, for jumping in at the sale price, but even at $299, this mower is a great value. I've also got a LOT of the One-Plus 18-volt tools, which I also love. But I'll save that for another review. Bottom line: If your yard is under 1/2 acre, you can probably get by with this mower and a single battery. Over that, and you'll want another 6 AH (or even 7.5 AH) battery. These batteries are a bit pricey, but figure the cost of 5 years of air filters, fuel, oil, and the hassle of 'will it even start today?' being gone, and I think its a win-win. They have another (more expensive) model that is self-propelled, but I can't justify that because it's heavier and more costly, while this one is so easy to push that you don't need any self-propel. Just keep it simple and spend that extra money on a battery and side-discharge chute instead. Once again: I am soooo glad that I went with battery power, and very happy that I chose Ryobi.

Worthless
Notice how all the other reviews were written after the first use. Sure, you press a button and it’s nice and quiet, but that’s where the positives stop. First of all, I’ve had it a month, used it maybe six times, and the thing already won’t start anymore. It takes 4 hours to charge a battery, and they’re dead in 15-20 minutes of light cutting. Do not buy the additional battery, I can only get 10-15 minutes out of that one. Ryobi customer service says this is normal. If your grass is thin, you’ll get an ok cut with a lot of missed spots. If your lawn looks even remotely decent? Look at the picture. I had to lower the deck by single notches, and the piece of crap was still locking up like that was just too much grass to cut. On top of all that, the blade is somehow already bent, and I know I haven’t hit any big branches with it, just your normal “oh I didn’t see that little thing in the grass” sticks. There is absolutely no way people are mowing 1/2 an acre with one battery. I’m 30, landscape for a living, and even hoofing it can barely get a measured quarter acre done on a single charge. If you’re looking for something you can throw in the back of your car and mow the lawn in front of your moms townhouse, this may work. But if you have any sort of actual mowing to do, don’t waste your money on this. Again, check the picture i posted. Lowering the deck one notch on this grass completely stopped it up

I bought this mower at the end of April and was originally pleased with its performance. However, after about 10 uses, it is no longer operable. Even when the battery is fully charged, the mower cuts out after a matter of minutes and sometimes seconds. This is extremely disappointing. I feel like I wasted $300 on a mower I originally felt confident in. I even recommend it to a close friend, who is now experiencing similar issues. Very upset with this purchase.

I’ve had this mower for 9 months and love it. This mower has quite a punch for being battery operated. I have used and abused mine and it keeps on trucking along. If your looking for a mower that will pickup every blade of grass, leaf or pine cone this ISNT the mower you want, get a gas powered one. With that aside it does great at cutting grass and is okay at cutting wild flower and vine overgrowth. I’ve added before and after photos of the overgrowth I cut every few months to show how much of a punch this mower has.

Lightweight and easy to use
Customer review from ryobitools.com logo
The battery lasted longer than what I needed, cut my grass without clogging. Great adjustable settings for height comfort. Lightweight and easy to use. Safety is a priority because without certain attachments it will not activate. Overall, love this product [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The battery life is FAR too short to cut any thing but the smallest patch of grass. The mower is easy to maneuver because its lightweight, but so much so that it also bounces around a lot with any imperfections in the surface of the lawn. But the real disapointment is in the build quality, three uses in and the safety switches in the extendable handle started to trip and shut it down and by six uses the material on the handle had worn out and split. I wanted to get a mower that was better for the environment but this is pure garbage and will need to be replaced in less than a year.

Excellent tool
Customer review from ryobitools.com logo
I bought this Mower a month ago so I cannot speak of its durability over a long period of time, however it feels sturdy and works great. The first time I used it, I was worried that my grass was too high for this tool to handle (around 1 foot high :p) nonetheless the tool was able to cut easily and without too much effort. The battery lasts long enough to cut my small yard and I would guess it will run for about 50-60 mins with full charge. So far I have been impressed by the power and features this mower offers and have no complaints. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I just bought a house, and I’m new to mowing lawn. I alway lived in a apartment before this. I ask my friend for recommendations on what lawn mower I should buy. I asked them because they used lawnmower for most of there life. They told me not to by RYOBI lawnmowers, because the the electric lawnmower are not as good as gas powered lawnmower. I when against there recommendation and bough this lawnmower. I regret that decision. This lawnmower is absolutely crap. The battery dies within 15 minutes, so I bought a new battery, and is still dies within 15 minutes with tbt new battery. The lawnmower jams every minute. The blade doesn’t cut as good as a gas power lawnmower. Now have to borrow my friends gas power lawnmower to cut my grass. People don’t ever buy the product.

Hello, Smith223 - We are very sorry that you're having an unsatisfactory experience with the performance and run time of your mower! Run time will vary depending on outdoor conditions, but the mower can provide a run time of up to 48 minutes with the included battery fully charged. And to help get the most run time, we recommend mowing in dry conditions and maintaining a regularly cut lawn. Additionally, please be looking for an email from us at reviews@ryobitools.com. We want to connect and see if there's anything else we can suggest or do to help make this experience better. RYOBIOutdoorTools

This lawn mower was great. Worker out pretty well for the size of our lawn considering in a single charge. Only problem was that, out of the box the lawn mower had missing screws and brackets where the wheels are held from. My Home Depot store is not close so I decided to keep it because I didn’t want to make the trip to take it back.

Fun and easy to use!
Customer review from ryobitools.com logo
We needed a new lawn mower and a friend recommended this one. In the past I have had an electric mower with a cord, kinda annoying. I am very impressed with this design. First off the machine is so quiet and has lights you could mow any time and not bother the neighbors. I really love how easily it folds up for compact storage. You aren’t supposed to walk backwards with it like I have done with gas mowers. But it’s so light and easily maneuverable there is no problem getting a good cut. We were mostly worried about it handling our areas of thicker grass. It Immediately senses the bog down and it just kicks into a faster speed to get the job down perfectly. Our other worry was the battery longevity but it still has plenty of bars left after we do our whole property. I honestly give this five stars. I have no complaints and would also recommend to other friends in need of a new mower. I am so happy to not have a gas machine and look forward to many years with this green machine.
