Which is the best position to store trimmer when not in use.

This trimmer must be stored in a horizontal position when not in use. DO NOT HANG IT OR STORE IT VERTICALLY AS THE OIL WILL BACK UP INTO THE HEAD AND CAUSE SMOKING. I went through this a couple of years ago with Home Depot, even getting a new engine head. Unfortunately, the manager I talked to at Home Depot had no idea about how to store it. It was only when I talked to a representative from Ryobi that I was informed about the need to store it horizontally. It has operated perfectly since then. Hope this helps.

all leaded gas will does is add more lubrication and more octane so it will run better it shouldn't hurt a thing unless it has a catalytic converter on it.

Does oil come with trimmer

Asked by Silverbear May 20, 2018

The trimmer does come with a small container of engine oil but I recommend you set that aside and get a better oil. I used the cheap, thin oil that came with the trimmer for the first few uses. I couldn't run the trimmer more than 10 minutes before it was overheating and running rough. A friend recommended I changed to better oil. I changed the engine oil to Castrol Synthetic 20W50. Since then my trimmer runs smoother, quieter and never overheats. What brand (synthetic or conventional) you choose is unimportant as long as it's made for high stress engines such as snow mobiles or motorcycles.

Can you use any time of line or do you have to use the pre cut ryobi trimmer line?

this doesn't use precut line, its a spool so it would use how ever long of line that will fit in the spool.

The write up says no more mixing of oil and gas.. does this mean weed whacher runs on straight gas

Correct. This is a 4 cycle engine, just like most lawnmowers or your vehicle. There is a separate oil plug, the box includes about a pint of oil that you need to put in the engine before use. Then you'll fill the fuel container with regular unleaded fuel before running.

Regular Gas Straight-shaft Trimmer
Customer review from ryobitools.com logo
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had a ryobi trimmer for a year and it’s done an amazing job. I just replaced it to get a newer one and the handling on this expand it model is amazing. The new adjustments and new head make it easy for landscaping and changing line. I am also able to change the attachments out. I recommend the 4-cycle because it takes regular gas and easier to start. The steps are easy and any size line fits just fine!

Initially I purchased the 40 volt string trimmer; it ran out of juice 1/3 of the way of my 175’ swale. I returned it for the 4 cycle gas model. Easy, minimal assembly. Starts easy, works great. I really like the easy loading of the string and string seems to last a good while. Feeder works well. I found replacing the oil dipstick challenging at ties, finger space is tight, minor issue. I have a large yard with a 200’ drainage swale. I found the heat deflector did a mediocre job, my forearm was singed several times while working. I’d recommend a long sleeve shirt or other arm protection. I will move the handle closer to the powerhead to see if the balance changes. I bought this because I tho use there were accessories that could be interchangeable such as a hedger but apparently not. Final assessment, the 4 cycle is the way to go.

Awesome machine
Customer review from ryobitools.com logo
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had other brands of 4 cycle trimmers , But there’s no comparison to my Ryobi. Love how easy it is to crank , the smooth running and idle, and how well balanced it is. I also bought the edger attachment. I’m very impressed with both. Debating on purchasing the Blower next. Love it.

Oil leak 1st use
Customer review from ryobitools.com logo
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got my new 4 stroke Ryobi trimmer today. Followed all instructions carefully as related to assembly. Added engine oil that was included with trimmer. Checked oil level after addition of engine oil. Upon my 1st use oil was all over fuel tank, and bottom of the trimmer. Stopped use immediately and checked oil, level is not on stick. I have not as of yet investigated the issue with this particular unit. Would suggest buying a two stroke. Total run time was approximately 25 minutes when failure was noticed.
