Dangerous fumes and risk of fire: do not recommend
Worked okay for a couple of years. Never had a good amount of power. This year I was about 2 minutes into trimming my yard when it started to smell like burning plastic and smoking profusely. Thinking it might just need to cool down, I stopped using it and let it rest while I mowed the lawn. Came back an hour later and it immediately started smoking and sparking. Took off the trim guard to get a better look, but to no avail. Can’t recommend in good conscience. Dangerous fumes and risk of fire.

Good trimmer but...
The trimmer was very easy to assemble. The main shaft, however, is very thin tubing and feels mildly cheap. One of the weld nuts broke off when I tightened the upper shaft section to the lower (see pictures). Overall the trimmer has very high power and does not bog down whenever you get into thick grass or weeds, however, the trimmer is pretty loud but I attribute that to the speed it spins at. Vibrations were minimal and overall the trimmer is well-balanced with the battery pack.

Trimmer head flimsy
The head is very flimsy. Picture is of head after 1 battery cycle. There is a hole almost worn through plastic head. It doesn't look like head can be replaced with a more durable one. Also the line feed did not work as indicated. Good features are that it is lightweight and the battery lasted fairly long. Charger that came with it is nice.

5 YEAR WARRANTY NOT HONORED - THIS REVIEW REWRITTEN TO COMPLY WITH HOME DEPOT CENSORSHIP
The switch casing fell apart with light use after 3 years. (They advertise a 5 year warranty) Tried to make a warranty claim. Was told it was not covered. I could not take it back to my local Home Depot, it has to be a special service center. None within 100 miles. The battery is also very difficult to remove. Basically the warranty is worthless and the product is not durable.

GREAT PRODUCTS
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought a new product for myself today on 08/02/2020 I have never owned a blower let alone a battery operated trimmer. I have always used a broom to clean up all my grass shavings. I am very blessed to have these products. I currently owned a trimmer and blower a nail gun and a inflator/deflator. RYOBI HAS NEVER LET ME DOWN. THANK YOU.

Design flaw
*Buyer beware- design flaw causes motor to burn out*
I bought this string trimmer a as part of a package deal with a leaf blower. I was skeptical at first because it was mostly plastic and light weight. After using it I was pleasantly surprised at how well it cut grass and small weeds. Then I noticed a burning smell, and smoke coming from the motor housing, not only did the motor burn out but it ruined the battery as well. The problem is with the air flow to the motor, the impeller sucks air and debris from the cutting deck into the motor housing. After taking part the unit, my suspicion was confirmed- debris in the housing and inside the motor itself. Until the airflow issue is addressed, the motor and expensive batteries will be at risk.

I already had the 40 volt battery i got with the lawn mower so buying this made it a lot cheaper....
I already had the 40 volt battery i got with the lawn mower so buying this made it a lot cheaper. The strimmer works well but only has a single string which i find breaks a lot. However it if powerful light easy to use and quiet.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got the trimmer blower combo, and I have to say I am highly satisfied with it's performance. Good power, had 3 inch high weeds and greater, and ripped right through them, did it take multiple passes? Yes it did, but for the height I was more than impressed. Also you will have to tap the autofeeder when it stops to work properly, but once I figured that out, it worked like a charm! The blower was powerful also. Both at 40V was just a powerful to me as a cord plug in. Plus being light was easy to pass from on hand to the other as they got tired. Battery on avg lasted 45-55 mins of constant use. Worthy!!! Gonna buy another battery just to be convenient.
