[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] just got this, used it strasight out of the box, I bought the tool only, meaning, no battery. Because, I already have Ryobi leaf blower and lawn mower and took a chance with the existing battery. However, the battery is the large size, 6Ah, which is big and heavy. The pole trimmer is already heavy without the battery. Use the strap they provide to help take the weight off your hand. The first time I used it, I did it on some alreayd high bushes. It made short work off it and the protabil;ity is great. No more using an extension cord and ladder. I really like the way this tops off the bushes and has breat reach. Still, I am thinking of buying the smaller 2Ah battery as it it smaller and lighter, as my home project is smaller and the larger battery is just way too much power and longevity for the tpye of work I am doing.

Excellent tool. I cleared a patch of Poison Oak that had grown wildly along a drainage canal bank and even up into several Oak trees that line the banks of the canal. The added length of the pole was a great advantage to avoid contact with the Poison Oak. I even added the 2nd extension from my pole chainsaw to the Pole Hedge Trimmer to get at the growth up in the Oak trees without using a ladder!

Poor wiring
Second time trimmer has ceased to work. Opened it up to find wires crimped repeatedly around spring. This occurs when head is adjusted. Poor design and virtually impossible to service. Have 9 other ryobi products and not one issue.

Already paid for itself!
I've used this twice to trim a 150' long and 7' tall hedge and 3 very tall (13') bushes along with numerous azalia bushes. I was paying a yardman about $150 about twice a year to trim all these. I wear out way before the battery needs a recharge.

Works great and does what I needed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this to trim a ficus tree that needs to be kept shaped. It worked great. Still had to use a ladder to reach the top and with the angled head I could shape the top when I always had to pay a landscaper to do that in the past. Easy to add the extension when needed. Wasn't sure if I needed the shoulder strap but the first time down the ladder i found out how handy it is. Battery lasted for 6 bushes and the tree. Bonus of no oil spots on the cool deck from the gas powered trimmer my landscaper uses.

I was very skeptical about this product prior to the purchase...but yesterday I have used it to trim my big bushes and hedges, i mean they are really big, wide and tall.....wow...it did trim almost everything, and was easy to trim the top without a ladder!!..that being said it will give you a little shoulder workout, but you can switch your arms while pruning, and rest your other arm..i also went ahead and purchased EGO hedge trimmer, which i thought maybe better to trim the lower parts of the hedge plus i have some low bushes to be trimmed..it is better to have both handy, however, with ryobi pole trimmer, you can first trim the lower parts or short hedges , and add one more extension, and go trim the upper part and add the last extension and trim the top part....basically with this tool i don't think you will need an additional regular hedge trimmer....that being said ego's cutting width and power is better, so it is personal preference to have them both handy ... but if you have tall and wide hedges this tool is a life saver....!!!

I was pleasantly surprised by how easily this cut tree branches, some nearly an inch in diameter. This is going to make tree trimming a breeze compared to how I used to have to do it. The 40V power gives it plenty of power - it barely slowed down, even on the larger branches. It will also work as a bush/ hedge trimmer, but it is way heavier than my old (also Ryobi) one, so I will probably only use this one for the heavier branches that the other one struggles with.

The Ryobi cordless pole hedge trimmer is just what I need to trim an overgrown holly bush in my front entryway. The extension length is adequate for the weight of the unit while using it so that you still have control of the device during operation. Comes with a shoulder harness to help carry the weight since it's so long when fully extended. When the box arrived it clearly states that it's the tool only and no battery or charger are included but there was a charger and a battery included with the trimmer. This trimmer works great and made my task much easier.
