WoW
I was very skeptical about this product prior to the purchase...but yesterday I have used it to trim my big bushes and hedges, i mean they are really big, wide and tall.....wow...it did trim almost everything, and was easy to trim the top without a ladder!!..that being said it will give you a little shoulder workout, but you can switch your arms while pruning, and rest your other arm..i also went ahead and purchased EGO hedge trimmer, which i thought maybe better to trim the lower parts of the hedge plus i have some low bushes to be trimmed..it is better to have both handy, however, with ryobi pole trimmer, you can first trim the lower parts or short hedges , and add one more extension, and go trim the upper part and add the last extension and trim the top part....basically with this tool i don't think you will need an additional regular hedge trimmer....that being said ego's cutting width and power is better, so it is personal preference to have them both handy ... but if you have tall and wide hedges this tool is a life saver....!!!

I was pleasantly surprised by how easily this cut tree branches, some nearly an inch in diameter. This is going to make tree trimming a breeze compared to how I used to have to do it. The 40V power gives it plenty of power - it barely slowed down, even on the larger branches. It will also work as a bush/ hedge trimmer, but it is way heavier than my old (also Ryobi) one, so I will probably only use this one for the heavier branches that the other one struggles with.

The Ryobi cordless pole hedge trimmer is just what I need to trim an overgrown holly bush in my front entryway. The extension length is adequate for the weight of the unit while using it so that you still have control of the device during operation. Comes with a shoulder harness to help carry the weight since it's so long when fully extended. When the box arrived it clearly states that it's the tool only and no battery or charger are included but there was a charger and a battery included with the trimmer. This trimmer works great and made my task much easier.

The Ryobi 18 in 40-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Pole Hedge Trimmer is exactly what I needed to trim my overgrown lemon tree. Even with gloves, I found myself getting scratched up to my shoulders trying to hack away at the limbs. With the pole trimmer, I am able to reach high without going past my gloved hands and avoiding any injuries. This pole hedger will easily reach the top most branches without me having to leave the ground and climb on a ladder. I feel much safer using this tool then climbing on a ladder. Also, it's pretty light weight too. Not too heavy so I can work for a considerable amount of time before tiring my arms out. It cuts well.. almost like butter. With my manual hedge trimmer, I had to stop several times because of all the scratches. Now I can finish the trimming in one go. **Updated Review** Previously when I received the tool, I was disappointed that the charger and battery were not included. The box was clearly labeled TOOL ONLY; however, a very kind and patient Ryobi customer service representative, Brandon Sally, called and asked me, "Did you open the box?" I did not because of the label. Brandon explained that they were sold out of the tool and battery combo pack, so they packed the battery with the tool! I felt so silly, but was happy to be able to use this tool. No wonder this was sold out because it is such a good deal to have both the tool, battery and charger! Now, I can't wait to add to my Ryobi tool collection!!!

I'm surrounded by hedges on three sides of my home. For years I have been using both a corded hedge trimmer and a battery powered hedge trimmer but not a pole hedge trimmer. Having a pole hedge trimmer has just made trimming the face and the top of the hedges a thousand times easier. In order to trim the tops of the hedges I was having to get on a ladder and hang my body out as far as it could go to reach the back half of the hedge since they are so large. This caused my back and shoulders to hurt at the end of the day because of being so over extended. With this new Ryobi cordless pole hedge trimmer those days are a thing of the past. I'm now able to stand on the top of my ladder and comfortably swing the pole hedge trimmer back and forth with almost no strain on my upper body to trim the top of the hedge. If my shoulders do start to ache I can use the provided shoulder strap to further remove any strain. This pole hedge trimmer comes in three pieces and you can set it up to be 5.7 ft. long or 8 ft. long depending on how far out you need to reach. With the trimmer setup in its 5.7 ft. configuration I can now quite comfortably trim the back top half of the hedges with no problems. It also makes trimming the face of the hedges much easier because I can now reach the whole face of the hedge from the ground. I no longer have to constantly climb up and down the ladder and have to move the ladder every few minutes once an area is trimmed. This is going to save me considerable time going forward. With the power of the Ryobi 40-Volt lithium-ion battery and the 2.0 Ah battery I should be able to trim a large section of my hedges at any given time now. The 5/8" cut capacity also makes easy work of the hedges. Unless you have a really thick hedge the 5/8" cut capacity should be plenty. This pole hedge trimmer also has a pivoting head so you can angle it at multiple angles. This is perfect for anyone who wants to trim the bottom of the hedge (or the top). You can set the angle and just walk down the hedge trimming it smoothly without having to bend way over to do so. If you are like me and have a lot of hedges to trim I would definitely buy one of these Ryobi pole hedge trimmers. With its padded handle (in the middle section if used) and its 18" bar length it will make fast work of any hedges or bushes you may have. With its 8.2 lb. weight your back and shoulders will thank you at the end of the day.

This is going to be a combined review of the Ryobi 40v cordless electric hedge trimmer and the Ryobi 40v cordless electric pole saw, which I got at the same time. I really could have used these this past fall, but now all that work is done ( by hand !!! ) and it is winter and I need to get this review in. My brother has had the Ryobi 40v cordless electric string trimmer for several years, and that is a beast that really gets the job done. He says he can do his entire property on one battery, although he has two. These two tools are in the same line. Build quality looks excellent. Many tools like this adhere to a standard of interoperability, even across brands, but since these are electric, they have wires in the pole, not a spinning drive shaft, and so you can't swap in a gasoline powerhead, for example. They are, however, interoperable amongst themselves. The included extensions will fit any of them, which means you can train them together. This can give extraordinary reach, something that my gasoline saw lacked. This crippled it for much of what I was doing, left me hand-sawing until my shoulder gave out. The joints between the extensions are beefy plastic and seem quite strong. Ryobi tools are homeowner-grade. That means they are well-built, but not up to every-day use. A professional landscaper would probably run these to death in one season, but they should last a lifetime of occasional use for a homeowner, without breaking the bank. I do not hesitate to buy Ryobi. Battery-powered is great - no cords, no fuel, no primer, no why won't this d@%& thing start. By staying in the same product line, you get multiple batteries and chargers without having to buy extras. Based on my impressions of these two tools and my brother's experience with his, I would recommend all of them.

As a lawn care professional, I typically use gas powered equipment. However, recently, I have been trying out some of Ryobi's battery powered equipment This trimmer is very nicely designed, allowing you to change the length easily for different applications. It is long enough to reach shrubs and trees up to about 8 ft. easily, while also being able to shorten it up to use on typical waist high shrubs and bushes. The length saves your back on the lower ones, and eliminates the need for a ladder on the taller ones. Good design! It also utilizes the same battery as my other equipment.

This is a decent quality, easy to use pole hedge trimmer by RYOBI. It uses a 40v lithium battery that can trim and cut branches up tp 5/8” and can be angled in 4 positions. It can reach @8ft and comes with a strap for balanced weight distribution. Since I’m a short dude at only 5’8” I was concerned it would be too top heavy but to my surprise I was able to maneuver the pole with ease and did not loose any control. It has 3 pieces-2 poles and the trimmer and you can use only one section of the pole if needed vs both for shorter reach jobs. The poles have arrows on the bottom for easy locating to attach and then you screw over the grey collar for final security. The handle has a safety trigger where you depress the top one, then the bottom one and release the top one for constant on until you release the trigger which will cease all operation. It comes apart for easy storage and can be used at a moments notice. The battery and charger are included and some nice features are the battery strength indicator that lights up one to four bars to show charge and the charger has a USB port for those times you need to charge a phone/tablet etc if needed. Overall a good product by RYOBI that will help tame your yard and give you another good tool in the yard arsenal.

This is great! Even though it is winter here, I was able to try it out. I neglected to trim my weeping cherry tree before the end of the season. It isn’t a tall tree, maybe 10 feet at the most but we usually trim it with a pair of loppers. This takes forever as you have to trim every branch. I can only use my regular hedge trimmers for the low pieces. This worked great. It cut through every branch. It seems much more powerful than my corded B&D handheld trimmer. Without the extension I could reach all of the branches from under the tree. It wasn’t too heavy and having the battery on the bottom and the trimmer on the top really balances it out. At first I was worried it was too top heavy but then I attached the battery and it felt really good. The top part also adjusts for an angle and I am looking forward to trying that, with the extension pole in the spring. I think with a small ladder I will be able to trim the top of the tree as well (I’m scared of heights so trimming the top has always been a problem...lol) One other thing...the charger that comes with this is awesome!!! I didn’t think I would ever mention a battery charger but this one is worth noting!!! Once the battery is charged, you can disconnect the charging plug and there is a USB socket on it. You can plug your cell phone or any other USB device into it and and use it as a portable charger!! With a 40v 2 amp hour battery, I can’t imagine how many cell phone charges you could get out of this when the power goes out or you just need a USB charger someplace where there is no power.

I have a tall hedge on one side of my property that I procrastinate about trimming since it requires two extension chords and jamming my old cheap hedge trimmer into a pvc pipe handle I concocted and fed the wire through. This product impressed me from the top to the bottom. The blades are large and will take out a half inch thick branch in one pass. The electrical connections on the pole are easy to make and safely buried in layers of thick, solid plastic. The angle of the blade head is adjustable. The triggers require two opposing levers to be compressed, making accidental activation difficult. Although it is heavy, it is nicely balanced so I could maneuver it with minimal effort.
