Beware. This grinder does not cut metal. Manual says do not use type 1 (thin) blade. Only use type 27 blade.

We've been cutting all types of metal for years with this angle grinder. However, this is a justifiable warning, since it's an open ended tool with not enough protection if the wheel explodes.

The packaging and online description should be updated to include.. "product not to be used with ...

Dave, thank you for your interest in the RYOBI 7.5 Amp 4.5 in. Corded Angle Grinder. The owner's manual does state that. It says "Use only wheel types that are recommended for your power tool and the specific guard designed for the selected wheel." And then later informs that you should only use Type 27 wheels. As long as you stay with in these parameters you should be fine. Thank you for asking, If you have further questions and would like to speak with a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional, please call, 1-800-525-2579 M-F from 9am-6pm EST. Hope this helps! - Vini

I would go with a masonry wheel. I used one to cut through and grind down brick. Found some in HD under 3 bucks each.

Can this grinder be used to cut granite?

Asked by KC September 24, 2020

You know that stone should be cut with a wet saw of ample depth and GFI protection. That said, small cuts can be done effectively with a spray bottle of water and a diamond disc on the grinder. Caution is recommended.

Durability from a brand you trust
I have used and abused this tool with cutting steel and concrete and it has yet to slow down. Changing the wheel is a breeze with the included tool. With the side handle it is easy to co tell while grinding or cutting. There are cheaper tolls out but none that will stand up to the hours of use this tool will. Make sure to pick up extra wheels while you're at Home Depot.

I have several Ryobi cordless tools and have been pleased with them for years. I need something to score about 24 landscaping 16x24" concrete paving stones. They are very hard and about 2" thick. Notches needed to be made on about 5-6 stones. The 4 1/2" grinding stone was not really the best but I was able to complete the project, only going through 2 of the wheels. That scoring plus wacking it with a hammer did the trick. (The instructions indicated that the tool was not designed to cut off the stone, but using the Masonry version, the scoring did the trip. No problems with the Grinder, I'll use it again on future projects. I would not recommend for Commercial use, but for around the house needs it performed well.

Great little grinder for home projects!! Cheap too!! I use this grinder for my welding projects to grind down welds, and cut metal I can't get with the chop saw. I also used it to cut and polish a marble slab that is now in my bathroom as a vanity countertop with backsplashes!!! Can't say enough about this little grinder!!

Perfect Price
I dont see why anyone would spend more than $40 on an angle grinder. It's an electric motor with a spinning disk. I chose this over the Makita one because the Ryobi has an ambidextrous trigger and the Makita doesn't. The Ryobi has plenty of speed, torque, and quality which makes it the perfect tool for any skill level. I have faith that the Ryobi has the quality to last a long time.

Works well, swivel feature in handle is nice, and still cheap enough to replace if it breaks. Note: this has the same in store SKU as the 6.5 amp model so the local availability shown on the website might reflect stock of the older / lower power model. I found that only the display model at my local store was this 7.5A version, so bought it. Oh, and the wrench slot in the handle to hold the special spammer is a handy feature. Almost worth buying just for that!

Died in under a year
I purchased this tool in September 2020, and I've used it a lot. For cutting steel, grinding welds down to a smooth shine, or stripping paint with a cup brush, it couldn't be beat; it was my favorite tool of the year until this morning. I was using a flap disk to grind welds and suddenly the tool wouldn't shut off. The RPMs increased rapidly and uncontrollably and smoke started coming out of the front and side vents. I unplugged it to let it cool down, plugged it in again, and the same thing happened. Verdict, tool is fried, and I'm disappointed. Sadly, I can't recommend this tool to anyone.
