Since I have several Ryobi expand it tools, I thought this would be a no brainer. Wrong! The first saw I purchased leaked oil from around the edges of the rerservoir, so I returned it. Got another one, and after I added the oil, looked okay as it sat for a couple of days (I wanted to make sure it wouldn't leak). As soon as I picked it up and the blade was hanging down, the oil came pouring out. Am on my way back to the store today to return it again; this time I expect to get my money back even though I bought a 2 year return policy. Am just disgusted with this issue. I have a neighbor who has an electric long handled limb cutter and he's used it in my yard several times. He loves it. Maybe I should just go buy one of those instead. Someone at Ryobi's Quality Control is asleep at the wheel! The second tool had the guard jammed on and it was bent; I had to make an immediate adjustment to the chain as it was not positioned on the bar. As I said, Quality Control is lacking. The oil leaking is a MAJOR problem. I can't imagine how this tool got such rave reviews.

I bought this attachment three years ago and use it extensively every season for tree limbs, cutting down willow stems around a large pond, obnoxious sticker vines and for trimming large trees before I cut them down because I heat the house with wood. In fact, I probably abuse this attachment well beyond recommended uses and it still shines. I've cut 12" diameter oak limbs off of my oaks with no problems at all. I found the lowest cost Oregon replacement chains on Amazon; 40 links, .043 width and 10" for about half the price compared with anywhere else. I've used this on Toro, and now Poulon trimming systems and it works really well. I checked to see if it would work with a Stihl home trimmer but the attachment points aren't compatible. Keep the oil tank filled and this attachment will last for years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I bought this attachment a couple weeks ago to add... I bought this attachment a couple weeks ago to add to my Ryobi four stroke weed eater I purchased about six months ago. I have never used a pole saw before so I wasn't sure how it would work out. Only owned chainsaw's and weed eater's that weren't capable of adding attachments. Took it to the deer camp and used it to clean up some shooting lanes and ATV trails. Cut palmetto's, small tree's and a couple of fallen tree's and branches blocking the trail. Was very pleased with the performance. I liked the fact that it can be used with just the attachment or add the second section in for reaching higher limbs. The chain popped off a couple of times but was easy to put back on. May have twisted it as I was cutting which caused the chain to come off. Hunting in hardwood and cypress swamps. It is really convenient being able to break it down into three sections and carry on the four wheeler down the narrow trails. Loving the four stroke engine. No more pre-mix to mess with.

I have about every other Expand-It attachment for my Ryobi 4-cycle power head. I couldn't get anyone to come trim an overgrown northern magnolia tree overhanging my phone line and roof, so I bought this trimming attachment. It worked like a champ! The best part is it comes with an extension so the reach is farther. The saw cut through the limbs like a knife through butter. Even standing on my roof I didn't feel unsafe because the unit is well balanced and it comes with a strap you can use to help support the unit evenly. I'm now helping neighbors on both sides and behind me trim overgrown and invasive trees and shrubs, along with dead shrubs that a tough to cut with lopping shears. I would have had to get out a chain saw, which is messy and noisier if I didn't have this great tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Tool I've Bought In A Long Time I bought this in combination with the "Expand-It" 2-Stroke motor and I love it. I've used this to trim back a significant amount of Live Oak tree branches that have become overgrown on our property and it worked perfectly. I love this tool, and have known others who say the same thing. When I purchased it, I saw a guy buying one as well and i asked him about it. He said that he's gone through 3 of them because he's so hard on them and wears them out. He said that he's got acres of trees on his farm that he uses the pole saw to trim, and said he wouldn't buy anything else in order to get the job done. I feel the same way; i love this saw and wouldn't buy anything else to quickly and thoroughly trim trees and bushes. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Several Attachable tools I bought this pole chain saw as I need to trim some trees that were to far to reach and did not want to use a ladder to reach them for safety. This saw allowed me to trim the higher limbs without endanger my self on a ladder. It uses a 40 volt battery that is the same type as the 40 volt 14 inch chain saw uses, so I can saw until the battery is depleted and use the other battery to keep on sawing while the first battery is on charge. Charges almost to quickly for me as I have to take a break from all the sawing. Also love the fact that I will be able to buy additional attachments for the Expand-it pole saw, such as the tiller, weed eater and etc. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Tuned my old troybilt weed eater and attached the pole saw - and away it went. Worked like it was advertised. I am clearing a quarter acre pond that is covered with a least fifty trees of all sizes. This pole saw allows me to limb and top trees, remove small stumps and chop small downed trees into pieces. The strap takes the load off and makes it easy to use. I have kept it full of bar chain oil and sharpened the blade with a 5/32 file. Looks like it fits most any weed eater. Will be using in future to trim up other trees on my property.

It worked good for the first branch I wanted to cut. Then when I tried to use it on the second branch it would not cut. At first I thought that the chain was to tight on the head. So I loosened it and moved the bar in slightly, this did not help. It seems as along as the shaft is parallel to the ground it runs, but as so as you raise the head to cut a branch the chains stops. Looks like the shaft in the cutting part of pole is loose. I am returning it today for refund...
