For the trail builders / maintainers, it works!
I have the used the Ryobi 18V 22" hedge trimmer for trail maintenance / brushing for the last couple of years of maintaining MTB trails. Bombproof. But you are bent over the entire time. And that gets old very fast. My solution is this hedge trimmer attachment along with the ONE+ HP 18V Brushless 15 in. Attachment Capable String Trimmer. I am 6"1 and it reaches just fine to trim weeds/brush near the ground. Added a shoulder strap/1" mount clamp from Jeff Bezo's company and now set.

Good while it lasted
I bought this in 2020 and trimmed my 40-ft hedge at 13 ft tall and it cut like a dream and was solid. I didn't trim the hedge in 2021 got three quarters the way through this year 2022 and the linkage broke in the housing completely unrepairable. For the price I would expect it to last basically more than 10 hours of use.

Underwhelmed...
I hoped that these trimmers would be powerful enough to cut through most things in my yard given that they are gas powered. The reality was that they could barely cut through a rosebush that was quarter inch in diameter (see pic). I’ll be returning them to Home Depot and going back to EGO battery powered trimmers.

Great buy!!!

I watched youtubes before I purchased this chain saw and it melted through limbs. I decided to purchase one and it would not wor . I went through an entire bottle of oil. I took it back and told Home Depot that I wanted to try a new one. Easy return and got home and this one melted through a shrub that I no longer wanted. It also sliced through limbs on other trees that needed pruning. I have never used a chainsaw before. This thing works great. Lots of power.

Ryobi EXPANDIT 15" Articulating is LIFESAVER

When it's time for me to trim the row of 12 feet tall podocarpus trees aligning the property dividing fence, I've got multiple obstacles: 1) Rosco; and 2) The blue tarp my neighbor put up to block Florida afternoon sunlight from Rosco's turf.

cuts very good but design is slightly awkward

I have had this trimmer for about two years now. I bought this because of a monster hedge in my back yard. It's very tall and wide. I did not have enough reach with my electric trimmer. I also hate dealing with the cords. I was not sure of the quality because there are units out there that are called "professional" and cost a lot more. Let me tell you I have put this thing through the grinder and it has never given me a problem. I have cut branches a lot thicker than this is supposed to be able to cut. I have accidentally hit my chain-link fence more than once. I have also had it running for hours at a time. I do not see how spending more money could buy a higher quality trimmer attachment.

This Trimmer Attachment Does The Task Well
I purchased this trimmer to trim my 20, nine foot Leyland Cypress which in the past I have done with hand held scissor action trimmers or an electric corded trimmer. As stated in previous reviews my gas powered trimmer head combined with this attachment is a heavy handful but I am a slight (123lb) 63 y/o woman with arthritis so If I can do this, ANYONE can if they take their time. So far, I have trimmed the rear sides of the trees but can only work for 1/2 hour at a time - it's hot out there! The attachment easily handles the newer growth and if I encounter a 3/8th" branch it will eventually munch it in about 3 seconds so I utilize my long extension manual pole pruner for the thicker branches not to over-stress the capabilities of this trimmer head.
Let me offer some advice for those who are trimming 'sappy' growth such as Cypress or pine, etc. Clean the sticky sappy residue off of the Ryobi trimmer blades after each use by brushing mineral spirits or paint thinner on the cutters, rinse, let dry and then oil the blades before each use. If you don't keep the blades clean, it will put hardship on the trimmer blades and the power head will suffer from overworking through the stickiness. I am posting a pre-trim photo of 14 of the 20 trees. So far, I am really pleased with this product and after I finish this project, I will post a follow-up photo The only daunting task ahead is getting high enough to safely trim the nine-footers down to 7 feet :)
