Can this be used to remove/uproot the bermuda grass for small areas (5'X5')?

Can this be used to remove/uproot the bermuda grass for small areas (5'X5')?
Asked by: VJ
While possible (especially with a gas unit running the cultivator) the only true method of killing Bermuda grass is chemical else it will simply regrow. Best results for me have always been RoundUp for Bermuda grass.

Asked by: jes
Hi, Jes- This is just the lower attachment part. You'll need an attachment-capable power head such as gas model RY251PH or cordless model RY40225. We do offer a cordless kit that comes with everything you need. If you're interested, please check out model RY40770. We hope this helps!

Will this work on my ryobi 18in. 10 amp electric string trimmer RY41135. It says, it is attachment capable.
Asked by: Lee
Yes it will work. I used it with my RY41135 this weekend. It was especially effective in my raised bed where the soil is not compact. I worked well enough on cutting in to compacted clay soil. It does not cut deeply or quickly in to my compact soil. I had to made numerous passes to get a few inches deep but I don't expect it to cut as deeply as a dedicated gas-powered tiller/cultivator. I did what I need it to do.

Expand-It Universal Cultivator String Trimmer Attachment is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 848.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good little cultivator Bought this looking to make turning my garden easier. It was a breeze compared to doing it with a shovel. I have the 40V head and that works great. No you won’t clear a homestead with this thing, it’s for suburban gardens and yards but it works. Tip: I walked forward with it but it doesn’t dig in, just skips over the ground even when putting more pressure. Drag it backwards while powering it and then it really tills. I had my garden 20’X10’ tilled in 20 minutes. Used to take an hour or more by hand depending on how robust I was feeling that day. I recommend it if you have a garden and don’t need a large rototiller but are sick of doing it by hand.

I've never cultivated soil before, but I truly wanted to plant a garden this year. I love the Ryobi Expand It Universal Power Head and already had great success pruning and clearing with the Pole Saw attachment and String Trimmer. So I sold myself on gathering all things Ryobi! I'm an old wild woman in her sixties and I burst out with laughter when I saw how easy the cultivator was to use. A well designed product that even I could manage with ease. The 40-volt battery tilled an 8 feet by 30 feet area of hard-packed Georgia Red clay with power to spare. I'm on to the brush cutter attachment next!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Used it first day and love it I used this for the first time today and it fit right onto my Craftsman weed eater. Tilled up a small area to plant a blueberry bush and it did great. I was a little skeptical, but, I will say THIS THING WORKS! It tilled the soil up and it looked like potting soil when I was finished. I then took it out to "weed" my 20' x 30' garden. It is small enough so I could cultivate between rows which is exactly what I was looking for. As everyone else has said before, to be most effective, you have to pull backwards while cultivating. I really like the equipment, but man is it heavy. I did about 1/3 of my garden and I was feeling it. The garden looked great when I was done so I have no complaints about the effectiveness of the equipment. The weight of the attachment is a little overwhelming. I am a large guy and semi strong, yet this thing is a beast to work with. I gave it 3 stars only because of the weight, other than that this thing rocked! I would recommend this as it seems like a great piece of equipment, but only to people who can handle the weight of it. I will continue to use it as it cultivates great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It works well if you can handle it. I am pleased! I purchased the Ryobi expand-it cultivator attachment because it has better reviews than more expensive brands, Also, buying it cost less than renting a tiller for a day. It attached easily to my cub cadet 4 cycle power head. I added 5 pounds extra weight to the attachment which makes for a heavy combination. The extra weight reduces the bouncing of the cultivator. Don't consider this attachment if you have back or shoulder problems. Using this cultivator gives them both a work out. Pulling it backwards works best. Rocking it side to side helps it penetrate hard soil. Be warned! When it hits large roots, rocks, or tough soil, it can bounce hard! Otherwise, I am pleased with its performance. It tilled a 20 x 20 foot garden of loose soil in 30 minutes. New ground takes at least twice as long. Don't try to force it. Be patient, it will till a garden, and you will get a good work out. As for reliability, I have only run it for about 8 hours so far. Hopefully, it will last several years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far this has been a great attachment. I... So far this has been a great attachment. I was able to till my 10' x 20' vegetable garden in about 15 minutes. My neighbor borrowed it the same day and tilled a 3' x 100' length of soil down his fence line. Surprisingly it did not use up much battery life on the battery. The attachment is heavy and unbalanced which is why I only gave it a good instead of excellent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked great Even though the garden was still to wet for tilling, I had to try out my new tiller. It was a little heavy to handle, the tiller did a great job in working the soil. It would be hard to spend an hour with it because of the weight to manipulate. But, for my small garden space, it is ideal. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little tiller I bought this about a month ago to enable me to till a little vegetable garden I keep. This tool was just what I needed. Did great work on slightly muddy soil and works it’s way down 6 or 7 inches or so. Be aware you will get quite a workout using this tool but, it works great! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked better than expected Bought this attachment about 1 month ago. I was concerned it would not be able to till the soil in my back yard. I read several of the low and high reviews prior to purchase. Why anyone would think they could push it forward when the owners manual says to pull backwards is beyond comprehension. 1st weekend I did a practice run so I could return it if it didn't work as I hoped. It seemed to work fine. The second weekend I really got after a portion of my yard. It worked very well. The best way to use the tiller is to start it without touching the ground. Once it is started, lower into the soil and pull backwards with a little down pressure. Then let it walk itself back to the starting point and pull backwards again. If you have a large area till at 90 degrees and bury the tiller into the soil. Should be able to get about 6 inches of tilled soil even in rocky soils.
