Is the blade replaceable?

Asked by Dee June 4, 2020

Hi Dee Thanks for your inquiry. The blade is not replaceable. However, it can be sharpened. Allow the blades of the hedge trimmer to come to a stop in the position shown. This will allow clearance for the file between the cutter teeth and the guard teeth.  Remove the battery pack from the hedge trimmer.  Clamp the blade assembly in a vise and file the exposed cutting surface of each blade tooth with an 8 in. smooth round file, 1/4 in. or 7/32 in. in diameter. Be sure to retain the original angle of the tooth when filing.  Remove the hedge trimmer from the vise, replace the battery pack, and restart the hedge trimmer. Allow the blades of the hedge trimmer to come to a stop so that the unsharpened edges on the other side of the cutter blade teeth are exposed.  Remove battery pack from hedge trimmer and repeat the sharpening procedure as described above. Best Regards Thank you for contacting Ryobi.

That's a tough one! I looked at both on the Ryobi site and the one big difference I think I am seeing is the 2603 does not have the safety switch that you need to depress with your left hand, for a right handed operator, along with the trigger with your right hand. Sorry I can't be of more help. I have the 2670 and it is a great tool. I have other batteries but used it with the 1.5 mah that it comes with and it ran well over 1/2 hour, which is all I needed it for, with more to go. It is very sharp and easily cuts 1/4" - 5/16" tree branches.

I live in North Carolina, which means I have azaleas. I think it might even be a state law. So I have about 50 azaleas on my 1.2 acre lot. Over the years I have bought a lot of power cords (and replacement 3-prong plugs) for my hedge trimmer. I needed them to reach the farthest shrubs and because I sometimes cut the end off while using the trimmer! I finally decided it was time to try a cordless. After looking around a while I decided on the Ryobi 18v. It was light-weight (4.15 lb) and powerful enough for my needs but not overly expensive. Probably most important is that it is comfortable to handle and doesn’t bog down too easily. The maximum limb size is about 5/8 inch, which is about what I need. With the 1.5Ah battery I get about 1 ½ hours of clipping done

Ryobi is a name that is slowly replacing our other tools. Cordless is great, i no longer have to worry about the wires getting in the way. And believe me, I replaced two extension cords because of hubby. Battery life was great, but we are definitely going to buy a few more batteries, not only for this hedge trimmer but for future Ryobi products. The trimmer worked well and with it being light weight, definitely was easy to maneuver.

This hedge trimmer made by Ryobi cuts pretty well and looks to be decent quality but can be pretty frustrating to use at times. I got decent run time out of it but had no warning that the battery was about to die. It would have been nice if Ryobi included a battery life indicator on this yard tool. The other frustration I had while using this hedge trimmer was having to use both hands just to operate the trigger. One for the trigger and one for the lockout. That doesn’t leave me a hand free when I need it! For those nervous to run hedge trimmers this Ryobi hedge trimmer may be perfect for you. It is literally impossible to cut your fingers with this model since you need both on the handle to run the cutting blades!

I have had positive success with Ryobi electric products before (chain saw), so I was expecting the same experience with the 18 volt hedge trimmer. I wasn’t disappointed. Comes with an 18 volt battery plus charger. Also has a protective cover/scabbard to protect trimmer blade when not in use. Very lightweight so perfect for cutting in those hard to reach spots near my mailbox and landscaping lighting units. Cuts very cleanly.

This hedge trimmer is a great size and weight for midsized pruning jobs. At 16” it is very maneuverable and light weight. It is making my jobs where I want a higher level of precision much easier than my larger pruner. While it is smaller, it is not the smallest hedge trimmer that Ryobi makes. This one uses the 18v battery, but it still has enough speed and power to cut at a natural pace. What I mean is it isn’t dinky, slow or weak. Ergonomically it is well balanced and fits my hands. It has the safety switch on the front of the top handle, so both hands must be on the tool or the blades will stop. The body is all plastic with molded texture on the handles. It isn’t much texture, but I haven’t had any slipping issues. I do wear gloves at all times, so I have not used it with sweaty hands. It is also fairly quiet. I wear earplugs with my other trimmer, but I don’t need them when using this one. If you need a mid weight hedge trimmer, this is a good choice. It comes with a charger and one battery. If you have other Ryobi 18v tools, you can share the batteries.

We only have a few bushes on our place that need to be regularly trimmed. This trimmer is incredibly powerful and lightweight. These two aspects alone are the best aspect of this trimmer. Being cordless is so much more convenient than dragging a cord around all of the bushes. When unpacking the trimmer, it has a hard plastic shield on the cutting blades. I am keeping this as a protector to make sure the blades do not get banged up and dulled when storing the trimmer. When I first picked up the trimmer I was concerned that with it being as light weight as it is, it would not be something that would be very sturdy or strong enough to do a great job, other than a few thin leafs. I was wrong. It cuts through 1/2 inch branches with ease. This was happily surprising. I have even taken this to my parents house where they have a large number of bushes to trim and I trimmed them up for them. The battery lasted for about 45 minutes before I had to recharge it. It was fairly quick to recharge and finish the job. Even if you do not have any other Ryobi 18 Plus tools and you need a cordless hedge trimmer, this is a great one to get.

Even though I have several gas powered hedge trimmers, this Ryobi battery hedger is a nice addition. This trimmer is light weight - around 4.5 pounds and super easy to use. I have a lot of Ryobi tools so I always have my batteries charged and ready to go. As such, I can just grab a battery and this trimmer is ready. It cuts well and has an 18 inch blade. It is really handy for cutting and trimming potted plants. I will still use my gas trimmers when major trimming is needed, but, again, this trimmer is a great addition.

This Ryobi Cordless Hedge Trimmer is great where a gas powered trimmer is not needed. It is the perfect tool for trimming my small yard's plants. The shorter blade and lighter weight makes it easy to hold and maneuver. The battery power and deep blade depth allows for easy cutting. The battery power also means I do not have to attach, or possibly accidentally cut, an electric cord. It operates when one lever on the handle and one on the grip are both squeezed so my hands are away from the running blade. The Trimmer includes the battery, battery charger and instruction manual. This is a great tool for a homeowner who does their own yard work.

I just tried out my new Ryobi 16 in. 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Hedge Trimmer. The trimmer comes with one 1.5 Ah battery with charger included. Everything you need to trim a hedge. Nice feature is the removable trimmer blade guard. A good safety feature is it has a lock out button located on the front handle used in tandem with the trigger located in the rear handle. I used the trimmer for about 20 min. with no sign of the battery loosing any power. The trimmer is light weight even with the battery. It has good power and cuts well. I cut through1/4 inch branches. Another good thing about battery power is that I'm not having to drag around a cord and then having to wind up that cord. I have also cut the cord on my old timmer before. All in all this is a great choice for a trimmer.

This is a very nice cordless hedge trimmer, powered by an 18 volt battery. The trimmer is well made from quality materials and well designed for good handling and balance during trimming operations, so it is easy to use in any position needed to properly trim your hedges or scrubs. The trimmer comes with a handy slide-on cover for the cutting portion of the trimmer for safe transport or storage. It also comes with a charger for the battery so you have a complete package that eliminates the corded trimmers of the past. Handle design makes use easy for either right handed or left handed operation, with a built-in "two handed" use required for safety. Great garden tool.
