What’s the best nails to use for small jobs?
ByJan 9, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Hello, Carolon - We recommend to use shorter nails (like 1" or 1-1/4") for thin trim or delicate wood to avoid splitting. And longer nails (up to 2") for thicker material. If you need further support, then feel free to ask another question. You can also contact us by phone at 1.800.525.2579, Monday - Friday from 9am to 5pm (EST), or via email when you visit us at https://www.ryobitools.com/support/contact. Answer This Question

Hello, Anne - No, this nailer doesn't need to be oiled. If needed to clean the nail channel, you may use a small amount of air tool oil on a clean cloth or cotton swab to wipe down the nail channel and remove any trace of glue. If you need further support, then feel free to ask another question. You can also contact us by phone or text at 1.800.525.2579, Monday - Friday from 9 am to 5 pm (EST), or via email when you visit us at https://www.ryobitools.com/support/contact. What a disappointment
I am a HUGE Ryobi fan with the exception of these nail guns. I have had it about 2 years and when it was new it worked great. 3rd time I used it the nails weren't going all the way in. I adjusted it over an over and they were still about 1/4 inch from going into the trim. Tried using it about a year later on another project and it doesn't work at all. I also have the 16 gauge nailer and it jams like crazy. I am very disappointed Ryobi.

                      Good nailer for trim fixing.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This nailer did the job! My wife pulled out of the garage and scraped the trim, pulling the bottom portion of it out and looking raggedy! I asked for this as a Christmas gift to repair the trim and to do more work around the house. While it could have more pressure, I think I just have to get use to applying a little more pressure when activation the nailer. Make sure you look at the gauge of it to ensure you get to the correct gauge of brad nails, that will save you a trip fot sure!

I bought this nailer recently to replace one that was stolen from my jobsite. I have found it to be a very good all-around trim nailer. The adjustments for nail depth and power of the strike are easy to make and seem to keep consistency after adjustment. Occasionally I will have a "misfire" in the sense that the nailer won't fire, but I think that is mostly happening when I don't have the nailer held perpendicular to the wood--so in that case it's mostly my fault and the gun isn't letting me shoot something too crooked. I don't find the gun too heavy or cumbersome. Overall I'd recommend it to anybody for a good finish nailer.

So glad to have finally 'pulled the trigger' and bought this Brad nailer for myself. I am a novice DIY homeowner with a modest single income. I specifically needed this tool to finish installing replacement glass into my 1927 wood storm window to rehang it before winter. It worked just as it should. The LED light is super helpful and best of all I didn't break the glass which I was terrified to do! It works with my other Ryobi 18v batteries so I was able to buy the tool only and it was an amazing value. Now I am working on a bathroom update and excited to use the nailer to add some decorative moldings and reinstall the other trim. Five stars all the way around!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First time purchasing or using a battery powered nailer. Like all the functions, easy load, easy adjust for counter sinking. No issues nailing. A little heavy, but did great job on first job. Overran good product. Ready to buy another tool.

                            Nice tool
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When looking online it suggested a multi-tool. So I picked this up. For the price I thought it was a no-brainer. This thing was super smooth and cut the wood I needed perfectly and precisely. Very low vibration on the unit and I used it for 45 minutes while it maintained the speed and drained my 18v battery only half! Holding it in your hand is very comfortable and it’s light so it’s easy to hold. I have had this unit for over 2 years now and I use it ALL THE TIME

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent Brad Miller for an entry-level DIY’er. Just bought a new home and can’t wait to just modify and add on to it until it’s obnoxious! Feels very sturdy and well built.
