A:  All Ryobi 18v tools interchange with one another, even if they are a higher performance version, and work with all brushless models as well.

              Works Well.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this to help till up the Bermuda grass that creeps into our beds. It works very quickly to pull the roots of the grass out of the soil.

Great tool for my chicken run
I purchased this with some reservation about its ability to turn over the compacted soil in the chicken run to remove the craters they created. It did not disappoint me! My older batteries did not last very long so made the investment in the larger 18v ones.

                  A Real Workhorse
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this a few days ago to help in digging a 30 inch deep ditch, 80 feet long. My process is to break up the ground with a pick axe, then use the cultivator to break up the clods of dirt into a fine consistency, then shovel into a wheelbarrow and cart away. I am very impressed with the power of this little guy. I am using a High Performance 6Ah battery, and the combo has worked for over 6 hours without needing a recharge (although this tool is only running while I break up the soil, about 25% of the time.) The ditch is only 1 foot wide, making this the ideal tool for getting into the "canyon." I can angle the tool from side to side to help clean the walls of the ditch. I've only had a couple problems 1) 2" - 3" rocks can get between the tines and the center differential housing, causing it to bind, so you have to wriggle them out, and 2) the screws that hold the top tube to the bottom tube vibrated loose, causing the tool to come apart like it is when it comes out of the box. I just had to tighten them back up. I actually wanted to buy the 40V interchangeable tool system for more power, but decided the cultivator attachment of that system was going to be too wide for my ditch. However, this tool is handling the work load easily, and it will be light enough for my wife to use out in the garden in the future.

Solid and strong enough to dig and turn soil.
I am impressed by this machine and its ability to dig into hard earth. The 4Ah 18V battery that comes with it provides ample juice for getting small tilling jobs done. Assembly is minimal, the metal main shaft pieces are already connected, but folded in half, and one needs to insert one piece into the other and tighten two screws. Clip the handle on, and slide the four tilling blades onto the axle. Two hitch pins hold them onto the axles. You will need just a Philips screwdriver. (Sadly one of my hitch pins fell apart in my hand and I had to make a new one, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars) The battery simply clips in at the top. The motor is at the bottom of the machine. A lockout switch lets one engage the motor and it is easy to till soil. Three speeds are selectable. The small size of the tilling head allows for great precision on what is being tilled and one does not get jolted about as with the larger tillers. One can also elect to run the machine with just two of the four tilling blades for an even narrower tilling footprint. I was able to quickly dig a nice hole suitable for planting a shrub, and was also able to move the soil around with it too. I also like the fact that one can use this tool with any of the Ryobi 18V batteries, so if one has a lot of tilling to do you can switch them out as needed. Overall it all feels solid and well engineered. Three year limited warranty for home use and 30 day warranty for commercial use. Made in China

                    Nice little cultivator
This is a nice little light weight cultivator. This nice and small for flower beds or small areas to prepare for grass seeding. Only issues I had was the two screws to put the handle together was a little hard. The wiring in the handle was a little long and had to be forced in one part to get them together. The other issue was putting on the blades shaft the blades had to be just right to get them started. One nice thing is you can remove the outer ones and and use it in small places. The high / low speed is nice to brake up the soil use the higher speed to dig in deeper and brake the soil up finer

                    Grest for raised gardens.
I have an unusual raised garden It is at counter height so you don't have to bend down to work it. This does present some challenges when it comes to preparing the bed. You do not want to be lifting a tiller into it. I have been using a corded cultivator, but who wants to drag out cords? This cultivator solves the problem. It has the power of my corded one, while being lighter and easier to use. It is also easier to clean. The tines are easy to remove, and do not require tools to do it, You also have the option of using two or four tines. This cultivator is going to see a lot of use besides the raised bed.

Great tiller for hard to reach places
I was surprised at how well this Ryobi 18V Cordless Cultivator dug into my strawberry beds, leaving a well tilled path 8” wide and about 4” deep. It was easy to control, even when I hit a 3” rock. I have used other tillers that would bounce off the rock, losing control of the unit temporarily. There was no bounce with the Ryobi unit, and the tilling was perfect. There are low, medium, and high speeds for different applications. I wanted something to till in my elevated beds as well as between the tomatoes and peppers in the garden. This is comfortable to use and fits the bill perfectly. When assembling, make sure the shaft screws are backed out before starting and twist back-and-forth slightly when inserting the handle into the shaft. Once assembled though, I used it in a flowerbed, my strawberry bed, and in the sand around the swing set. Whatever the task, the Ryobi 18V Cordless Cultivator plowed right through it. I am well pleased with my choice.

                    Perfect for what it is
Every tool has its purpose, and this one’s purpose is for shallow cultivating in a small garden or flower bed. If you are looking for a deep till, you are going to need something a little bigger. What I used this tool for was for mixing organic material into my garden in the fall. The plan is that the soil will do its thing over the winter and be ready to go and loaded with nutrients by spring. The battery that came with this tool is a beast and had no problem in my 12x12 garden. Since it's Ryobi, of course the battery works with the entire library of tools. I have been using various Ryobi tools with the ONE battery for probably 20+ years and I don’t think I have ever had one break or thrown one away.

A Great Tool for Flowerbeds and Small Gardens
We have a number of flower beds around the condo that need to have to soil turned every spring. This battery-operated Ryobi cultivator is the perfect tool for my spring time and fall job: preparing the gardens for planting. The features that I really like about this tool are numerous. The construction is heavy duty, from the plastic pieces to the metal pieces. The tines are a lot thicker than I expected and they should last a long time. The cultivator is very heavy which tells me that the head will remain on the ground during operation. The weight will somewhat force the tines to dig down. I really like the speed control on the top of the handle, which makes it easy to change the motor speed during operation. I also really like the motor lock on the handle which ensures that I won't accidentally turn the cultivator on. The shield over the tines should keep the tines from throwing dirt all over me as I am working. Assembly of the cultivator was very simple and easy. Not wanting to force anything, it took me a few minutes to put the two handle pieces together. It seemed that the wire did not want to push into the handle. But it did go in and the screws tightened into the dimples in the inserted handle piece will hold the pieces together tightly. I really appreciate that a 4Ah battery is included, along with a charger, as it will provide up to 40 minutes of runtime. My 2Ah Ryobi batteries would not last very long with the power that the cultivator uses. The three speeds are a great feature. Our soil, if you can call it that, is mostly hard clay. The lower speed will make it easier to break it up and the medium/high speeds will be perfect for amending the soil once I have it broken up. Ryobi even built a hanging notch into the handle so I can hang it out of the way when I am not using it. I am really excited about this cultivator and cannot wait until next spring to use it. This is going to save me a LOT of time and prepare the soil much better than I have been doing with a shovel. Plus, my gardening is small and I can not use a large tiller. A new battery and charger are included with this cultivator. The charger is a standard charger but the battery has four small lights on one end of it. By pressing a button beside the lights, the amount of charge still on the battery is displayed. Each light represents a quarter of a full charge. This tells me exactly how much charge is left as I am using the cultivator.
