A: It may be possible, but I don't know how you will hold the knife and the tool and at the same time without securing the tool or knife in some sort of device to hold them during the process.
by|Jun 12, 2023
A: no reallyv this tool is not made for thst porpouse.
by|Jun 13, 2023
A: I generally sharpen scissors and outdoor tools with this. You can sharpen a knife which would require additional honing with a sharpening stone or other method.
by|Jun 12, 2023
A: I guess you could sharpen knives with this sander, I use a stone to sharpen my knives. This sander is great for tight spaces and small items, like it.
by|Jun 12, 2023
A: I use this to shaper my bandsaw blades on my sawmill and would feel comfortable to shaper a knife with it. It might be difficult to find fine enough sandpaper though 400 grit or so.

Q:I have an old solid table with thick round legs. The table has a veneer finish on it. What tools or cleaning products could I use to refinish them? The legs have cracks down some of the sides. Can I use some type of glue or how can I fix the cracks?

A: I'm not a professional furniture restorer but here's some tips. Start by looking up some YouTube videos about it to see if you have the skill to do it. If the table has sentimental value you'd be best leaving it to the pros. If you can disassemble it, take plenty of pics and mark which legs go where then bring all the pieces to a shop for their opinion and/or estimate. You may choose to have them strip it then you can refinish it. They might even give you tips!
If it was mine and wanted to do it myself, I'd use a chemical stripper, something water based especially if it's veneer, you don't want to lift the glue that attaches it. I'd test if first on a spot that doesn't show to judge the reaction with it and the topcoat. Once you've got it down to bare wood I'd hand sand it with a grit recommended for the topcoats. Leave plenty of time for it to dry. Without pics of the legs, I'm thinking use a hand held rotary tool with a ball end burr to open up the cracks then fill them with thin layers of wood filler. Time to sand them smooth, stain and/or polyurethane topcoat.

A: Orbital sander for flat surfaces with fine grit sand paper. You can use any good grade or better wood glue to fill the cracks in the legs only if they can be clamped in such a way to close the cracks after gluing. If they can not be closed, you will have to use a wood filler/putty. Then hand sand the legs when dry.

A: steel wool to clean off the legs and table top and very fine wool filler ti fill in the crackd to give it a good new finish
by|Jan 24, 2023
A: Hello, Table - Thank you for your question. It looks like the most common ways to fill cracks in wood is with epoxy, glue and sawdust or wood putty/filler sticks. I hope this helps! Additionally, if you need further support, then a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional is here for you, Monday - Friday from 9 am to 6 pm (EST) when you call or text us at 1.800.525.2579 or through email or live chat when you visit us at https://www.ryobitools.com/support/contact. A: Thank you for the question. I know refinishing can be quite a challenge and there are lots of options of products and tools. I would first suggest you determine what kind of finish you have, water or oil based and use the appropriate product to remove the finish. Then use a filler to fill the cracks. An woodworking trick is to actually use automotive bonds, it works great, dries fast and sands smooth, but will only work if painting the table legs.

A: Since you did not say where you are I can not answer the question.
You should be able to determine that from the Home Depot website by putting your zip code and choosing the store location closest to you.

Usually not that impressed by new tools but...
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this as Used but looks brand new to me. Wasn't sure how a very narrow belt sander was going to be useful but I was surprised. Put on a 40 grit belt and proceeded to grind 26 linear feet of fiberglass fillets effortlessly! I wish there was a small handle to help hold it. Can use the motor housing but it gets hot quickly. It did a great job smoothing out the rough fillet and does an adequate job on flat surfaces. Would be great if you could change the angle to get in more places.

Handy tool for small places
While doing wood working there are times when you end doing a lot of hand sanding, just because you can’t reach the area with a more traditional sander. This will reduce those times. I tried it out on a 2 x 4 just to checkout how aggressive it can be and it did a great job. Looking forward to doing projects where I really need it. Another great Ryobi tool in my shop.

This was the PERFECT tool for the project I was working on!
Not only was this the perfect tool for my project, but it was also the only one. A few weeks ago, I decided to take on a huge project ... rebuilding a 163-year-old staircase. It was a total mess from one end to the other. The entire right side of the railing was even missing (handrail and spindles). I was fortunate enough to find someone who could fabricate a new one and another person to install it but I was still left with a bunch of nasty old treads, risers, and stringers. The only solution was to use a 2-part epoxy system. But the only problem with that is sanding off the excess after it all dried. The issue was that the space between the spindles was far too narrow for a conventional sander. I searched Home Depot's website and instantly found what was needed. This battery-operated sander was ideal. Once I had this baby in my hands, I was able to complete the project within a few hours. The stairs look great. They're solid as a rock and smooth as a baby's behind. Thank you RYOBI and thank you too Home Depot!

Must have!
This is fantastic! I love how easy it is to use and I have used it for many projects-from rounding edges on glass/Plexiglas, removing burrs from bolts that I have cut to fit. I recommend this for everyone!

Great if better quality
Purchased this in July and received on the 29th and have used it every week day for the last 4 month. It has been indispensable at work; however, the arm is a cast aluminum alloy and broke for no apparent reason. Took it too my local HD and was informed it will cost 30 dollars for a service charge to ship it to their warranty depart which could take months to get returned. This will be the last Ryobi/HD product I will ever buy. When did being treated fairly as a customer become so complicated at HD?

This Ryobi 18v 1/2x18” belt sander is a very nice file sander, bought it so when building my projects or my wife and her craft projects we can get into hard spots orbit sander can’t. When I work with metals this will get edges smooth no burrs so I can make a proper weld. It’s well balanced and weight is no issue for my wife or myself with a smaller battery, I can use single handed and work in tight spots. Was going to pay extra to get one over seas, but noticed that was coming to US so waited and was worth the wait. I would recommend buying a good quality sanding belt, I bought some less expensive and had issues with them separating at joint seams, but paid a few dollars more and to date no more separation and little longer use of belt. I would definitely recommend this Ryobi Belt sander to anyone , from craft makers to DYI or trades men’s.

Great tool for the home wood worker. The first thing I notice is this tool was not bulky or over weight. I read the directions and noted that before installing the belt correct direction needs to be taken into account. The arrow for direction is on the sander as well as the sanding belt. I like the lock position once the speed is set on the tool. Easy to adjust the tracking of the belt. I would recommend this sander. Your Ryobi ONE batteries will operate this sander just fine. This is a tool only purchase. Would make a great gift!

Ryobi 18V Cordless Belt Sander. Part of the ONE+ family of tools. Belts are 1/2" wide by 18". This package
comes with three belts, 60, 80 and 120 grit. With this package, you get the tool and sandpaper. Batteries and charger are purchased separtely. No tool bag. Features include "lock on" button to keep the sander running, no-tool belt change, variable belt speed and belt tracking adjustment. I used mine on outdoor furniture and where I need to get in to tight spaces. I purchased the battery (2) / charger starter kit to complete the package. As with most tools, I downloaded the instructions to my tablet so I always have a copy. The unit is light and easy to control. The only downside is there is no dust collection system so tap the unit with your hand to remove the collected dust before storing the tool away.
