A:Â I guess it could be with a lot of practice and the right sanding disc, I'd go with a fine disc, maybe 220 grit until you get really good at it,then you can decide which grit is best.

A:Â I would think it would be perfect as it's not overly powering. One slight concern is that my unit's speed control drifts easily [with vibration]. If you buy check that out right away as that will make you nuts.

A:Â No. This is more for hobby type applications. For me personally, it has been handy when I have need to grind certain things that require finesse or to polish aluminum after cutting it with a saw.

A:Â Probably not a good idea! The tool itself vibrates and makes a whirring sound/noise that will probably scare most dogs. If the dog wiggles/moves you might accidentally run the running tool over their skin. Nope, not a real good idea!

Great Tool and is extremely versitile
This tool really stands out for versatility. It is amazing how many different things you can do with it. You can engrave, grind, cut wood or metal, polish, and much more. It is very light weight and easy to use. At first, I thought I wasn't going to like that it has a base and then a cord that attaches to the tool, but I find that it is no problem at all. It is easy to move around and the connecting chord is long enough for what I do. It uses the Ryobi One+ 18V system. This version does not include the battery. I have other Ryobi One+ tools so it was no big deal. Changing the bit was a little bit of a learning curve for me. You click it left or right and then just slide the bit in and click it the other way. You can adjust the speed easily with a dial at the base of the handle. This proves very handy as I work on different materials. I primarily use it for my 3D printing but find myself using it for other projects around the house. I would recommend this product without hesitation.
This is the kind of tool you need to have on-hand for those special needs. I have lots of Ryobi batteries and I like their tools. I don't have a rotary tool so seemed like a good option. The pencil (wand) feels nice - light but has enough weight to feel it while you use it. Comfortable soft rubber on the handle. 5-speed choices on RPMs. They give you some bits for different uses, there's a little onboard storage for small bits. I also got an extra 27-piece sanding kit to expand my options.
The cordless convenience of this Ryobi PRT100B Precision Rotary Tool allows the user to move to wherever their next project may be moreso than worrying about pulling out the extension cord and finding the nearest outlet. This tool features 5 variable speed settings, attaining an ultimate speed of 23,000 RPM, which gives the users some control and accuracy. Included with the tool is the quick change collet with easier accessory changes. The included accessory kit provides the ability to complete a wide range of light duty applications like engraving, wood carving, glass etching, polishing, and other craft projects. Built into the tool is an accessory compartment storage that holds multiple bits and accessories. Backed by the RYOBI 3 Year manufacturer's warranty, also the charger and batteries are sold separately. This tool works okay for Light Duty cycles, as cutting through a 1/2" Copper Pipe was cumbersome, for heavier duty jobs, please consider the other, more improved versions of this Pen Rotary tool.
I like the flexible shaft for doing wood carving without having the burden of a cord. The set is well designed. There is a little compartment in the base for storing all your various attachments which helps keep ll collected them easy to find. The battery storage area is small but the battery didn't come with it so I can't use it yet. It arrived in its original package with no other covering and arrived in good condition.
I am really enjoying the Ryobi One+ 18V Craft Rotary Tool. I have used a corded version of another brand for years and the best way to tell what I like about the Ryobi is to compare the two. The first distinction is most obvious. I do most of my precision work sitting at the table and previously I had to run an extension cord to my workstation and then it seems the electrical cord was always getting in the way. Now I just install the same battery I use for my other Ryobi tools in the base and I can move the tool wherever I want. The Ryobi tool is much smaller in diameter and lighter than the other tool, making it much more comfortable to hold for long periods of time with less fatigue, and I believe it gives greater control. The lightweight cord between the base and tool is lighter and more flexible than the 120V electrical cable of the other tool. The base has a storage compartment to keep frequently used tools, the included collet wrench, a second collet, and other supplies. (The unit comes with 15 commonly used accessories, and I have found that the accessories from my old unit also fit the Ryobi.) Both units have speed control built in the tool and both have adequate power for the work that I do. The Ryobi spindle lock allows you to quickly change tools easily without using the wrench. The big question right now is what to do with the older unit.
I received the Ryobi One+ Cordless Precision Rotary Tool a couple weeks ago and put it to use on two home maintenance projects to sand wood and smooth ceramic, and it worked very well. However, I was not overly impressed with the operating instructions which were too confusing and cryptic. Also, the "quick change" collar does not fit the accessories provided with the drill so you have to use a different collar and it requires a separate tool to manually change the accessories. On the other hand, it is nice that Ryobi manufactures a line of cordless tools that the battery can be interchanged so it was not necessary to buy another battery because I already had one for another Ryobi tool. But, in this package a battery is not included so you would have to buy a battery and charger separately if you don't have one.
I can't get too many Ryobi tools so when I saw this rotary tool I immediately ordered it to add to my collection. I love to do "male" crafting like making toy trains and cars and this tool is perfect for that. It is great for cutting metal and wood and was very easy to use. It does not come with the battery and charger but I already had those. It has a three year warranty.
The RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless Precision Rotary Tool (Tool Only) is a perfect addition to my RYOBI ONE collection of garden and workshop tools. It is so convenient to have these tools that are not used often but utilize the same battery system. Since I am a crafter, the rotary tool is particularly useful. I appreciate the stand and accessory package as well.
I got this and at first, I was excited because it was portable had a 4 ft cord and ran on battery not a power cord. Then I started testing it and the speed control worked great it felt great in the hand and the cord was so lit you did not even fill it. But then I put a buffing wheel on it and buffed up a small section or metal at medium speed and it would stop if I put any pressure on the wheel. Then I put it on high #5 and it worked better but still stopped if I put too much pressure. Then I tried my Dremel bits and fittings to see if they fit the arbor and they did. I installed a metal cutting blade and tried to cut a piece of aluminum and was not able to cut it off at all. As soon as I put a little pressure on the blade it would stop, and I would have to turn it on again. This mite be good for balsawood or using with a 3D printer to clean up parts or very light crafts. But for me I am sorry but I can only use it as a mini buffer, or very fine light work.

Hello, Ugenefrank - We're really disappointed to hear that you didn't get the performance you were hoping for from the rotary tool! We'd be very grateful for the opportunity to discuss this further with you so we can try and turn your experience around! Would you please email us at Reviews@RYOBItools.com?
The 18v cordless precision rotary tool is a great addition to the 18v line. It's battery operated, but still technically has as small cord between base and tool. So not completely cordless. The whole thing is super light and sits easily on a craft table or in a window sill. I've used it to clean out wood rot in a window sill, sharpen a lawn mower blade still attached, and polish small resin jewelry. The one thing I haven't enjoyed is the quick release tip, I've read instructions but can't seem to get it to work right. Fortunately they still include the standard collet that worked wonderfully.
