This is a great tool. So handy with space for different heads in the tool holder which is very compact, but lots of room for tool heads that come with the kit and room for additional heads too. Ryobi quality is shining through with this tool. Powerful and quiet. Easy to use. Portable with great battery flexibility. Lots of different tool heads that allow you to sand, polish, cut, file, buff and polish.
The Ryobi rotary tool is a perfect addition for my tool box. As a long time DIY’er I feel that this tool is a must have. Right off the get go I noticed how light and easy it is to hold. The tool fit really well in my hands and it was easy to use when I cleaned some of my tools and engraved my name on them. Removing the accessories was easy. The tool is made to help you and that’s what I enjoyed the most out of it. However, what I really loved about it is the accessory container and lid. This feature holds your bit either in the container or in the slots on the lid. Genius! If you ask me! Overall, this tool is going to come in handy for me and will be a tool that will be used more often than not. The possibilities that I can do with this tool will forever keep me busy and thinking outside and inside the box! RECOMMENDED ALL THE WAY!
The Ryobi Precision Rotary Multi-tool really surprised me with it's power and versatility. To begin with I want to mention portability. I was able to bring the Ryobi Rotary Multi-tool to an area without power. The construction is rock solid and the fit & finish is excellent. The cord is more than long enoughThe tool features 6 speeds and a soft start switch. The collet lock is an easy to use lever that sits just below surface of the tool. The speed control is stepped and responsive. The Ryobi Rotary Multi-tool was able to remove material from a door in just a few seconds. In fact, the area was a door latch hole and I was able to sand it out with precision and very little effort. The tool comes with a 12 piece accessory kit and the they can be stored right onboard. Also, any of the "popular" rotary tool bits and pieces will fit and work in the Ryobi! Any Ryobi 18 volt battery pack will power the tool. I am so very happy I have this tool. I highly recommend picking up Ryobi Precision Rotary Multi-tool and adding it to your collection. Thanks for reading my review.
I'm reviewing this Ryobi One plus 18 volt cordless precision rotary tool it definitely has its uses I use a corded heavy rotary tool that work often and would say it does have more power than this but it's also much bulkier so if you are planning to use a large diameter grinding wheel or heavy cut off wheel this will have a hard time having enough power. The plus though if you're looking to do engraving polishing or carving this will be a great tool I haven't run battery down yet so I can't speak about battery life I can't say it seems to work fine with either lithium or the older style 18 volt batteries so I'm pretty sure it doesn't draw very much power it's quite light and nimble in your hand it says cordless but you do still have a lightweight cord between the base and the hand unit just not a heavy 110 volt cord
I wanted this for cleaning up 3D printed parts. But I found it to be under-powered for the job. I repeatedly stalled out the tool when using the wire brush. Using the sanding drumb worked better. So did the long burr. I guess the tool would work for very light duty. But not for light duty when using somewhat aggressive tools.
I do like the design of the tool The speed control is separate from the on/off push button. The chuck lock is a lever rather then a button. You can feel when you hit the lock position because the button moves significantly when you have sotated the shaft to the correct position.
I thought I would try this tool as I have a a One+ blower so I already have the batteries.
It is an OK tool but It will not replace a corded rotary tool if that is what you are used to.
For small projects or crafts it is probably adequate but lacks the power and speed to really do a lot.
The weight is fine with the battery attached although you can still drag it around the workbench by the cord if you project is out of reach of the cord which I feel is too short.
This tool does not come with batteries so if you already belong to the One+ group it will work for you, otherwise prepare for more batteries in you tool box or workbench.
The supplied accessories are barebones so also prepare for a larger spend if you don't already own a rotary tool and accessories.
Overall, I found the tool OK for light craft work but would stick to a corded, higher power tool for other jobs.
I do a lot of wood projects as well as different types of crafting projects. I was getting tired of using my old rotary tool as it was so big and cumbersome which makes it not as enjoyable after some time. It was really hard to get in some of the smaller areas. Not to mention it demanded I always was near a power outlet. Then I saw the Ryobi cordless precision rotary tool in the one+ 18 volt line of products and got so excited. I got this as a tool only as I have more than enough batteries for this line of products. When it arrived I was really surprised at just how compact it was. This will make it so much easier to get in to all the tight places. With the battery going on the base it makes it so light weight. I do not have any worry about my hands acting up after using this for long amount of time. This is more like holding a pen than a rotary tool. I love that the base not only holds the tool when not in use but also has a storage compartment that can hold various tips. This did come with 12 various tips that are very useful and appreciated. It also has variable speeds which are easy to adjust with the dial on the pen itself. The on/ off switch is conveniently located on the other end of the pen. The cord is a nice length so no worries about the base being in the way. This works perfectly with all the ryobi 18 volt one+ betteries I have so depending on how long I intend on using it for a project I can select the one I need. This truly is a great addition to my Ryobi line up and I can’t wait to see how it handles everything I throw at it. My fiancee even commented about wanting to try using it for some of his fine detail work on his models so if it comes up missing I know where to look. So given the size, the ability to take it and use it anywhere I am very pleased with this product!
I obtained the RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless Precision Rotary Tool to replace my 25+ year old Dremel rotary tool. This Ryobi rotary tool is small and can sit right on my bench, unlike my old bulky Dremel that had to be stored away because it used up so much space. The accessory storage built into the rotary tool console is nice for holding frequently used accessories. The pen on the Ryobi is much smaller than the Dremel; this allows it to fit into tight spaces. And, maybe because the pen/handheld is so much smaller than my Dremel, I seem to have much more control especially when grinding or buffing in hard to reach areas. The battery seems to last forever on this thing.
Overall this is an incredible tool especially for the price and I highly recommend it.
I was trying to carve by hand the noisemaker portion of my croaking mechanical frog for a jumping contest my first semester in Design School. A friend said, "Watch this" --grabbed my work and competed what I was doing in just a few seconds with a rotary tool. The next day I purchased my first rotary tool. That rotary tool and a hot glue gun were the only two power tools I owned during college. With them I made quite a few prototypes each semester. I highly recommend this Ryobi PRT100 and the Ryobi Cordless Glue Gun as Design School Essentials. The Ryobi PRT100 is a lighter weight, precision oriented rotary tool. It fits in the hand like a pen, is very comfortable to hold, and is very quiet. I have a heavier duty corded rotary tool that weighs 4X what this does, is noisy, hangs from a hanger, and is controlled by a foot pedal. The Ryobi is much more mobile and less intimidating. Perfect for school. 5 Stars.
The RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless Precision Rotary Tool (Tool Only) is the perfect hobby rotary tool. Assuming you have a Ryobi 18V battery, the price point for this tool can’t be beat. The collet on the “Pen” (rotating power end) is 1/8 inch in diameter. There is a rotary dial that can be adjusted changing the rotating speed from 4400 to 23,000 RPM. The base has a nice tool holster for the “PEN”. Also, there is a nice storage enclosure and external storage area for frequently used tools. The 4Ah battery is heavy enough to keep the rotary tool from tipping over during use. The cord length is ~ 3 1/2 feet.
The following to tools are provided with the Rotary Tool; Drum mandrel and 2 (60 grit) and 2 (120 grit) sanding sleeves, 1 conical grinding stone, 2 felt polishing wheels and polishing compound, wire brush, engraving bit and high speed engraving cutter.
My first project was to use the sanding drum and a 120-grit sleeve to shape a finger pick for playing guitar. The pen and variable speed rotary speed adjustment are easy to use. I would recommend the Ryobi Rotary tool to any hobbyist. I wish I would have had this tool when I was building remote-control airplanes.
I have a corded rotary tool that gets a fair amount of work in my shop, however, I miss having the portability of cordless. The Ryobi 18 volt precision rotary tool is the perfect fit - and I already have a number of Ryobi 18 volt tools so a power source isn't an issue. Some of my projects involve custom work with metal and aluminum and I often use powered rotary tools for sanding/grinding and finishing work.
Although this Ryobi isn't technically cordless, it does allow me the freedom to work with the tool without dragging out power cords. The Ryobi is smaller than my other rotary tools so it is much easier to hold and articulate into tight areas. I find that the power/torque is adequate for my needs and the 5 speed setting allows me the right speed for the task.
I appreciate the included accessories - most are common to what I already use, especially the sanding drum.
Where portability is important to you, this tool allow it with the 18V battery part of Ryobi's 1+ line of tools. The tool comes with an assortment of rotary tools such as sanding disks, polishing disks, arbors and even a small tub of polishing wax. The collect accepts 1/8 inch shafts. The tool that attaches to the battery base via a cable includes a locking shaft button and 5 different rotational speeds.
A nice little portable rotary tool. It comes with a few standard tools to get started. It's pretty light weight, it weights about the same as the 2.0ah battery I had attached to it. It has a holder for the tool and a compartment for the accessories. As far as power goes it can handle it's own in the light to medium range of jobs ( think hobby work or a quick fix adjustment). It has adjustable speed and fits nicely in the hand, not too bulky or too skinny. I was concerned about the power, but I had no problems with it when I tested it on wood and metal.
As my Robbi tool chest is expanding I felt that this tool would be needed. The main reason as a owner of a day care certain toys have to be fix and/or repair. So instead of having to use a large tool or grinder. I will be able to fix a toy using a precision tool such as this Ryobi tool I just received plus the fact it is cordless which makes it even easier to use without a cord. I received this tool today August 15, 2021
This is a great little precision rotary tool that everyone should have on their workbench. It is very light weight and easy to use. It comes with a good basic assortment of polishing, grinding and finishing tools. It is good for hobbyists too. The tool has five variable speeds so you can select one that best fits the job you are doing. The grip is rubberized for easy handling. It has a compartment to hold the accessories.
The RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless Precision Rotary Tool (Tool Only) Model # PRT100B is a nice product from RYOBI. This Rotary Tool relies on an 18 volt battery for power. It’s marketed as being Cordless which is confusing the consumer since there is a 48 inch Cord between the battery pack and the Tool. The top speed of 23,000 RPM is insufficient for metal or intricate wood carving. It’s a suitable product for a young Hobbyist interested in entry level engraving, sanding, and polishing. RYOBI supports their product with a 3-Year Manufacturer's Warranty.
This is probably ok for polishing air. The power is super low and as soon as a little pressure is applied it shuts off. I tried cutting the heads off of screws and it took forever compared to a corded tool. I'm very disappointed and thought this would be great because I'd it's portability, but that's about all it's good for!

This new rotary tool is good for light to medium duty jobs. It is by no means meant to replace a Dremel type tool due to the low torque this tool produces. This new Ryobi tool is best suited for drilling thin balsa type wood, cutting plastic material, detailed wood carving and light to medium cleaning. The cordless portability of this tool is fantastic and can be used just about anywhere. I found this tool most useful for cleaning carbon build up from metal parts and for wood engraving.

I like this tool a lot! I already had a corded dremel, but this Ryobi is so much more portable and easier to use.
The tool comes with a small selection of bits as well as a wrench to loosen/tighten the chuck. Bits include: 2 polishing pads, polishing clay, sanding spindles, 3 metal abrasive bits (not really sure what to call them honestly!), a wire brush, and a cone shaped sander thing.
The base has a small box built into it to hold these bits inside. There are also holes you can mount the bits in for easy access, but the metal abrasive bits slide right through and into the box. I've got a separate thing full of dremel bits, but this will serve nicely to store my most commonly used items or bits that I'll use for a given project.
It is very easy to use. Just put a battery in, load the bit you need to use, select a speed setting, and turn it on. I liked how quiet the motor was; it was not too loud even on the highest speed setting.
I do wish the bottom of the handle could be a little thinner so it is easier to grip almost like a pencil for precise operations, but this is already significantly thinner than my old dremel, so it's a huge step up there.
For this review, I was able to carve a logo into a spare piece of two by four. I thought it turned out pretty well!

Ryobi's new Precision Rotary Tool is heads above the other brands that make such a tool. Powered by the ONE+ battery. It is light weight and thinner for more control and the on/off button sits just under your thumb. Has a 4 foot cord between the tool and the docking station which has on board storage for accessories (12 pcs included). Adjustable RPM from 44,00 - 23,000 and has a 1/8" locking collet which will accept accessories from other brands as well. Best of all, it's portable, so no more cords or trying to find an electrical outlet.

We've been happy customers of Ryobi cordless construction and yard tools for years. With the exception of their circular saw and jig saw, which were underpowered at the time we purchased them years ago, their tools have been of great use to us.
So, when I saw that they planned on releasing this cordless rototool, using the same battery pack as most of the other tools we owned, I was ready to jump. I've owned and used Dremel rototools for my hobby all of my life and they've done the job well. The drawback has either been the need to be close to an outlet (or use an extension cord), the need for a separate speed controller), or dealing with a somewhat clunky cordless version with batteries that needed frequent recharging and would eventually corrode.
From what I see, so far, the Ryobi rototool addresses these drawbacks for me and had a very good introductory price. The tool is lightweight, fits the hand well, and is comfortable. There's enough cord between the tool and the battery/cradle unit (about 3+ ft.) to have the battery set well out of the way. Since it's cordless, I'm not tied to the nearest outlet for power, which means I can take this thing to club meetings or other hobbyist's houses - or my own front porch. It has the on/off switch and variable speed dial built right into the tool, so I don't have to reach for settings. The variable speed dial goes from 1 to 5 but it's a sliding scale and any speed setting from 1 (low) to 5 (high) can be set to the exact desired speed. The small tool case built into the battery pack/cradle is a nice touch. It may be a tad deep and narrow at the opening...might be tough for bigger fingers to dig around and get a hold of smaller accessories easily. Still, it's nice to have a built-in bin right with the tool.
While the tool comes with a small set of standard sanding/grinding accessories and a standard chuck, I have tried it with a smaller chuck and some of my cutting bits, without issue - so it looks like all of the available aftermarket rototool accessories on the market will work fine with this tool.
Finally, with this tool using a standard Ryobi battery, I was curious how long the charge would last. So, I set the tool to run on low power, placed it in the cradle, and walked away. I got bored after more than two hours of running and turned it off. No excessive heat in the tool for running so long and very little of the battery's power appeared to be used up, as recharging to full charge was completed in less than 10 minutes.
Needless to say, I'm very happy with it, so far.

This Ryobi One+ 18V cordless precision rotary tool is great. I have other Ryobi cordless tools so I chose this one because I recently have started making small woodworking projects. Even though this tool is small it is powerful. I also like being able to carve, engrave, sand, polish, etch and clean all with the same tool. The on-board storage means all the accessories are always handy.

Ryobi Rotary Tool. Tool only, battery / charger purchased separately. I have several Ryobi tools thus batteries are not an issue. Unit has a variable speed setting for different tools. Comes with a list of accessories from sanding drums to wire brush to engraving bits. Quiet operation. Contains an onboard storage container for the accessories. Has a rubberized grip for good control. The cord between the battery pack and the rotary tool is 4 feet so the battery shouldn't get in the way when doing projects. You can download the several operational manuals from the Home Depot site and the Ryobi site. Some issues are that I'm not sure how to order more accessories, specially sanding drums which will wear out after much use. I would also recommend practicing on a scrap piece of wood before starting a project. The unit does not have the torque at low RPM to keep sanding (stalls). And at high RPMs the engraving tools tend to wonder. So you need to get a feel for how tight you hold the tool and how much pressure you can apply to your workpiece. But after some practice you should do fine.
The RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless Precision Rotary Tool is small and compact but surprisingly powerful for its size. The compartment on the dock is big enough to hold all of the starter tips that the tool comes with along with more that you may purchase afterwards. The battery life is sufficient to complete most jobs that you set out to do without having to charge it. So far I have no complaints with my purchase. Overall I would recommend this tool.

I really excited to use my new rotary tool! I love that it comes with a storage compartment and has a holder to place once you are finished using it!!
