Q:Is the torque adjustable, so don't risk over-tightening fastener? In other words, is it similar to air-ratchet, just turned down the air pressure to reduce torque?

A:  Hello, Chuck - Thank you for your question. The variable speed switch trigger delivers higher speed with increased trigger pressure and lower speed with decreased trigger pressure. A:  It does not specifically have a torque clutch. But, if you are careful, you can somewhat control the torque by how much you squeeze the speed trigger. The way the tool is set up is, the lower the speed, the lower the delivered torque and vice-versa.

              Good for tight squeezes
I got this ratchet wrench to fit into some tight squeezes I have on some of the machines I have in my home shop, like inside the table saw or drill press where you can't reach with a conventional driver. It does well at getting into those confined areas, and even has a head that swivels so you can approach bolts from different angles. It doesn't seem to be super powerful, but I haven't yet had a chance to try it on anything really rusted on to know if it is able to deal with those situations. But under normal operating conditions, it is definitely a good tool to have around the shop.

Great Addition to the Toolbox, but Noisy
Adding this Ryobi One 18V Cordless Ratchet to my Tool Collection gives me another tool to get greasy! I'm loving the new Brushless lineup and the additional power of the ratchet. The 1/4" head rotates 360 degrees and has lights on two sides to light up work on the ratchet and surrounding work area. It is variable speed and has a lock button that stops the paddle from engaging if laid on the paddle side. This 1/4" ratchet has 40 ft lbs of torque and a smaller head for close work. The biggest negative is the noise of the ratchet while powered on. Air Ratchets have a whistle, but this ratchet clicks with turn of the socket. Time will tell if the ratchet wears down quickly or stands the test of use.

              Great little ratchet.
So far I've got nothing but nice things to say about this cordless ratchet. It's light weight but still has plenty of torque for a little ratchet. Now I did use it with an adapter and 9/16 socket and for what I was working on it worked surprisingly well. It broke lose the bolts I needed it to and did a real good job tightening the other ones. I like how the head can be swiveled around to get in different positions, first time I've seen that on and electric ratchet. Uses your standard Ryobi 18V battery and depending on the size of the battery you should get pretty good life out charge.

              Solid Performance
Let me just say that I like all of my Ryobi One Plus tools. This ratchet is no exception. Despite the lower price from other manufacturers, Ryobi consistently makes a good tool that stands up to where and performs as it should. That said, what I like about this ratchet is the ability to turn the head in for positions. The paddle works very well and is sensitive enough so that you can go slow or as fast as you need. The rubber over molding on the handle grip is comfortable and prevents slipping. The other rubber over molding on the sides do a good job of protecting the tool when you lay it down. This ratchet has forward and reverse and a locking switch. When engaged the Locking switch prevents the paddle from turning the quarter inch ratchet head. This ratchet has two LEDs that will assist your vision in low light conditions. My only detraction is that these LEDs seem to illuminate the area in front of the tool like a flashlight rather than being aimed downward so as to better illuminate what you are trying to ratchet. As always very good job Ryobi. I recommend this tool for sure.

              Versatile
I have been doing mechanic work for over 50 years and always like to find things that make the job easier, so I got the chance to get this electric ratchet and picked it up. I have had and used a 3/8” air ratchet for years. This one is nice that I don’t have to drag out an air hose and since it isn’t air powered, it’s way quieter. It’s not a big powerhouse, but it is a 1/4” drive, so you don’t need a lot of power usually. The head has a lock on it that you can release so you can rotate the head and it locks in at 90 degree increments. It has a pair of lights that light and maintain on for a short time to when you squeeze the trigger. Speaking of trigger, it’s a variable speed and is easy to control even at low speeds. There is also a trigger lockout as well. Which is nice so when I have it with other tools, it doesn’t accidentally get turned on and run the battery down. I don’t have much for RYOBI tools, but what I do have, they seem to be heavy built. Also, the battery is a match to the other battery operated RYBOI tools that I have. The draw back? It’s made in China, but the majority tools like this is made in the same place.

              Great. versatility
I really like this Ryobi 18V One + HP 1/4” High speed Ratchet. First off this unit is Brushless which means more Torque and speed versus a Brushed model, and there aren’t any Brushes to wear out and replace down the road. This unit also had a head that rotates and locks up to 360 Degrees in 45 Degree positions to allow access to a multitude of different situations. This Tool has 2 very bright LED lights that will help illuminate you work area and stays lit for a few seconds after releasing the trigger. This Ratchet has a variable speed trigger lever that is also lockable with a simple flip of a switch. This Ratchet will turn up to 460 RPMs, and has a torque rating of up to 40 ft-lbs. This is a great Ratchet and would be great for Home, Business, industrial, or hobby repairs/Builds. This is also nice as you don’t have a Air Hose to drag around or get hung up on everything, and do not need a separate air supply. This is a Great little Ratchet that is useful and versatile and will be a great addition to your Tool Box.

              Compact, powerful, and very quick.
I will go over some specifications and features of this 1/4" High Speed Ratchet then share my experience with it. In the box I recieved the 18v 1/4" Ratchet and operators manual. With the ONE+ HP technology this ratchet delivers 0 - 460 RPM. With up to 40 ft-lbs. of torque. The head has a 1/4" anvil with pin detent. The head rotates and locks into 4 different positions. There are 2 on-board LED lights that illuminate when you press the variable speed metal paddle trigger. The lights stay lit for around 10 seconds after you release the trigger. I already own the Ryobi 18v 3/8" Ratchet PBLRC25. I decided to get this 1/4" ratchet because it is more compact and I'm able to get into some tighter spaces. The 3/8" is nice for a longer reach because of the long neck. They both have the 4 position head. This is great when you are trying to get into a tight spot and the battery is in the way. Just pull up on the neck and turn it into the position that works for the job. I really like the dual LED lights because it gives you 360° of light for dark spaces. The variable speed metal paddle trigger is nice. The more pressure you apply to it the faster it spins. There is also a lock on the trigger to prevent accidental start-ups when it's bouncing around in your tool bag. To switch between forwards and reverse, it is like most standard ratchets. Just turn the knob on the back of the ratchet head left or right. I love having these 18v ratchets, especially for tight spaces. When you use a regular manual ratchet you have to have room to swing the handle back and forth. Another thing that sets this apart from a normal hand ratchet is the speed. This ratchet spins very fast up to 460 RPM and has great torque up to 40 ft.-lbs. behind it. I am the guy everyone comes to when they are moving, need help, or need something fixed. Having this ratchet makes taking furniture apart and putting it back together a breeze. This ratchet and my tabletop grill were delivered the same day, so I used the ratchet to put the grill together. I have a few different tool bag setups. I have one for my vehicle, which is where I'll be keeping my ratchets. This is definitely a great little gadget to add to your collection whether you are a mechanic, carpenter, or DIYer.

A bit bulky but good overall
This is a nice tool. It has a couple of nice features. First, a warning that this is the tool only. It does not come with a battery. If you own other Ryobi 18V tools, that is not a problem. I just used one of the batteries from another tool I own. The weight is a bit heavy for a 1/4 inch drive and the overall unit is kind of bulky. I like the trigger, which is a full hand lever so you are not trying to squeeze some small button while getting work done. Also, the lock for the trigger is well placed. Just a quick flick of the thumb and it is locked or unlocked. Another feature that I like is the head is small and functions like a real ratchet. You don't have to search the machine for a forward and reverse button. It is just a strong mechanical switch like on a real ratchet wrench. That also removes the electronics from the dirt or oil you would normally encounter with the ratchet head. Another feature I really liked is the light. There is a light on both the top and the bottom to illuminate your work area. You might wonder why the light is on the top and the bottom? What I consider the best feature of the wrench is that the head can rotate. Lift the retaining ring and the head and pivot 90 degrees or 180 degrees making it easier to have the best grip and angle for what you are working on. The tool has plenty of power for what you are working on given that it is a 1/4 inch drive. I like this tool and would have given it 5 starts if it were a little less bulky as most of the places I use a 1/4 drive tend to be smaller.

For small fasteners the Ryobi Brushless Cordless Compact 1/4 in. Ratchet is just the right size.
If you are working with bolted connections that requires a ½ inch socket or smaller you may need the Ryobi Brushless Cordless Compact 1/4 in. Ratchet. These smaller fasteners might be found in an appliance cabinet for a dish washer, washing machine or maybe behind the dashboard of a car. The ¼ inch Ryobi ratchet provides 30 ft./lbs. of torque which is 5 ft./lbs. of torque less than their 3/8-inch ratchet. This a good thing because too much torque has a chance to twist off or strip a small, bolted connection. It also has a higher RPM (250 rpm vs. 230 rpm for the 3/8-inch ratchet). This is a good thing because the smaller fasteners have more threads/inch than larger bolted connection. The Ryobi Brushless Cordless Compact 1/4 in. Ratchet eliminates repetitive motion and saves you time. Anytime you are trying to tighten a bolted fastener in a tight space the repetitive back and forth motion of a mechanical ratchet is tedious and takes time. The Ryobi 1/4-inch ratchet uses their common 18V One+ battery. At first glance the battery might seem to be in the way however, the anvil (where the socket is attached) can be rotated 90 deg to 4 different position relative to the battery. This is done by pulling up on the collar and rotating the anvil to the best position for the job. There are 2 bright LED lights the on opposite sides of the ratchet and in line with the battery to provide plenty of light on the fastener. The large paddle switch is easily depressed for tightening or removing the nut or bolt. There is a lock out lever located above paddle switch and can be positioned so the ratchet won’t run during travel in your toolbox. The brushless motor rotates very slowly so it is easy to align the socket to slip on the nut or bolt. If you frequently use bolted connections this Ryobi tool will save time and frustration and I recommend it.

ONE+ 18V Cordless 1/4 in. 4-Position Ratchet, Better than I expected, it has lots of features and Good quality, I got to start with the 4 position rotating head, what a great idea I will use that feature often, I like the paddle switch it is comfortable, easy to use and helps to control the ratchet, the LED’s one in front and one in back produce plenty of light, 250 RPM’s with 30 ft/lbs. of torque which is plenty for a ¼” ratchet, this is a great tool and it’s a great addition to my garage/shop, this RYOBI 1/4” ratchet is a great product.
