A:Â Honestly if you have a lot of soldering to do this is not a good fit. Too many things that can fail. I had to go back to my trusty Weller 40 watt. I bought 2 of them and havent even opened the second one.

Q:Is the cable between the unit and the iron made of rubber or cheap pvc? Does the cable bunch up and get in your way when you solder or does it stay untangled and out of the way?

A:Â The cable is pvc it would melt if touched with hot iron, it is somewhat stiff. This is not a high end machine but works well for occasional user who wants portability.
by|Jan 31, 2022
A:Â The electronics on this item failed . I would not buy it again. Get a 40 watt Weller way less complicated and will never fail. With the right kind of tip you can do anything large or small with the Weller and get two of them for the same price
by|Jan 30, 2022
A: I would say pvc & slightly stiff, doesn’t tangle or coil tho.  Just need to use your wrist to keep the cable out of the way.  I don’t think it came with a power cord as I recall, but I had a spare.  Works well

A:Â I'm not 100% sure on what material the cable is made out of, but I can tell you it's not silicone, it's a hard rubber, a bit stiff, and it can get in the way at times. The only thing I don't like about the soldering station is the soldering iron cord is too short, and I wish the cord was detachable for easier storage. But I do love it and use it alllll the time.

Traded in my Weller 101N for this and not upset!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have really come to appreciate Ryobi's products and when I saw this and thought of all the possibilities of portable I had to give it a shot. The first day it came I slip the battery in and went to town, soldering a speaker and a battery pack that I was putting together. This thing works flawlessly. I probably started for 20 to 30 minutes, with the machine going in idle, every so often when it wasn't in use use. It definitely gets hot enough and has everything you need the best part of it when I was done I check my battery and I hadn't even gone down one bar.

I purchased the 2 pack battery and charger kit and got this soldering iron for free.
Almost all of my tools are Ryobi.
This iron added to my collection is great.
I put a battery into it and within seconds, it was ready to go. I will be adding more Ryobi tools to my set.

As an engineer at a television station, I do a lot of soldering, mostly at my workbench. But from time to time equipment needs to be installed or repaired in place: in a remote truck, at one of the satellite dishes outdoors, and so on. Dragging out an extension cord for one of our bench irons is inconvenient, so this cordless soldering station is an excellent solution -- especially since we already have several other Ryobi One+ tools.
Operationally this resembles the Weller WES51 soldering station on my bench: the temperature is thermostatically controlled over a range from about 400°F to 900°F, and it accepts a number of interchangeable tips. (Ryobi doesn't publicize this, but it turns out that Hakko T18 series tips fit this iron, and they come in several dozen different shapes and sizes.)
The base is fairly large: not very tall but rather wide. This turns out to be a good thing, since it isn't easily tipped over. A coiled holder snaps onto the base and works acceptably, though it doesn't hold the iron as positively as my bench unit. A small container on the top holds a sponge for cleaning the tip. The handle is slightly larger than my Weller, but still comfortable. The cord is slightly shorter than I would like and is a bit stiff... but not a serious problem. I've used many different irons in the last 50 years, and the feel of this is in the top 25 percent.
The temperature adjustment knob doesn't have markings for temperature between the extremes, but that isn't a terribly big deal. My impression is that the adjustment is fairly linear: using 63/37 lead-tin solder, the performance with the knob at mid-scale is about the same as my Weller set to 650°. Turning it up about 3/4 of the way works just fine for lead-free silver solder. The thermostatic control works quite well, keeping up even with fairly heavy soldering outdoors, which is where many irons fall short. I am impressed.
Battery life has not been an issue so far. I'm using it with 3Ah batteries, and for whatever reason I've finished my outdoor jobs before the battery has given out, so I can't really quantify it. Realistically, battery life will depend on the temperature you set, the conditions you're working in (yes, we have to solder things outdoors in the winter!), and the mass of what you're soldering. And even if you do run the battery down, you have the option to plug the station into an ordinary extension cord -- something I haven't had a reason to try. The system automatically shuts down after ten minutes, which helps conserve battery life. Even if it powers off, giving the knob a little twist brings it back up to temperature quickly.
The Ryobi P3100 has greatly exceeded my expectations, giving me the performance of a benchtop soldering station anywhere I need to work. Long term durability remains to be seen, but based on my experience so far, I would definitely recommend it.

Product works as advertised. Thought I'd offer some info on replacement tips for the P3100 and P3105 which have the same Ryobi part number 019757001004. After a little research based on the tip measurements, it appears that the HAKKO FX-8801 soldering station uses a very similar wand and replacement tips are the same. See the attached picture. I ordered a selection of tips for a FX-8801 (from Amazon) and they the P3100 and P3105 perfectly!

Awesome Tool
I work in Broadcast Media, and this tool is already proving invaluable when terminating custom length audio cables. Rather than cutting a score of cables at 25 feet each and ending up with dozens of feet in extra slack that creates a rats nest, this allows me to run a cable, cut to the perfect length, and quickly finish an install.
The run time on the 3Ah battery has been plenty enough for me so far, working at 700 degrees for about 30-45 minutes per job.
I love that this has the option to work with an extension cable as well. Gives that added little bit of reliability.

Just What You Need
I purchased the RYOBI tool set years ago and one for my RV. It has been great to do projects around the home and in the RV. The 6 battery charger is great on trips for the leaf blower and drill set and 3 gallon vacuum cleaner. I now have multiple tools and battery chargers and prepared to tackle my projects. The best battery system that fits all my tools and my future purchases. How many times do you buy a sprayer or a tool and don’t have a battery to run it. This system powers them all and never run out of power. I would recommend this tool system to everyone that wants unlimited power for tools sprayers and of course your hurricane lanterns and lights.

Purchased this specifically to replace car speakers (with future expected uses) and love it. I was working far from any outlets so this was perfect. Has the option to be plugged in when you have the ability but mobility was one of the key reasons I got it. It heats up quickly and used an older Ryobi battery and was able to desolder the old speakers and solder all 4 new speakers before the battery was spent.
Would highly recommend to anyone on the fence about this. Feels solid. It'll do what you need it to do, even if you don't have an outlet nearby.
