Don’t buy this stud finder!!
Just bought it at Home Depot. It wasn’t consistent with the stud location. I used it on a wall I had replaced and I know where the studs are. The wall also had no electric. This item was never accurate. It’s indications were between 13” and 20”. And it kept showing an AC detection. Where it would indicate a stud center. It would actual be on one side of the stud, not the center. Of the 9 studs in the wall it accurately found one.

Was able to find the studs I needed to put up overhead storage, was very important to hit the studs right in the center. Would of given it a 5, but for some reason it twice told me there was a stud and there was none at all. Still not sure why it did that. Other than those two times it was right on the mark.

"Exceptionally accurate" it is not. Try "exceptionally non-ergonomic" and "exceptionally slow to calibrate" and maybe even "exceptionally poor at detecting studs". I purchased this hoping that it would be a nice upgrade over my Zircon for easily finding the center of a stud. It turns out that it is uncomfortable to hold (I wish I'd listened to the other reviews about the hamburger grip), and that it also just doesn't detect studs for me in an older house. My Zircon e50 (pretty darn cheap) has only minor problems with stud detection in my house, but this thing looks more like KITT from Knight Rider, lights blinking back and forth as if the stud was moving through my wall, trying to dance and dodge out of my way. I'm sure this thing works fine on brand new drywall, but don't even bother if your house wasn't built this century. I'm returning this same-day. The only feature that appears to work perfectly is AC detection. I actually really like the clear and obnoxious indicator warning you not to drive a long screw straight into mains voltage.

      Complete garbage
Might have thrown $40 in the garbage - this thing has no idea where studs are and guesses poorer than me.

This device can not make up its mind where the stud is. I think it is junk. VooDoo ... But, I am challenged with stud finders anyway. I think they all are mystical. Get a strong magnet ... find the nails that go into the studs.
