I would first contact Home Depot’s customer service dept. and perhaps they can put you in touch with the manufacturer. Ours came with the lockout, I would not have installed it without it.
You can get hollow tubing and add a section to lengthen it, and drill a hole and put a bolt thru it.
The weight of the storage itself is 60 pounds. You can use more than one platform as long as you don't use the same ceiling joists that you used in the first platform..

The space between bolts on one side is a tight 48" on the other side is about 45", So you should be able to lay a sheet. Just remember, this subtracts from you 250lb weight restriction. Hope this helps!

The ceiling mounting bracket comes down about 3.5" and the lifting cage has 5.5" i-bolts. That is about 9" total and it could be less if you used shorter I-bolts.
You can only make the arms as wide of the base, otherwise the cable would not wind up right.
No you cannot, reason being, you have a couple of inches that the mechanism hangs down. Also I had to move mine to the middle of my pole barn for that reason.
I do not know if Home Depot does. However, my daughter and I installed ours in about 30 minutes. Needed a ladder, stud finder, drill and nut driver (crescent wrench will do). Someone with a few basic tools can handle it.
