This shovel is designed for metal detecting and digging in soft soil. It is not designed for splitting tough materials like bamboo. For transplanting bamboo, you'll need tools specifically designed for splitting and digging, such as a sharp spade or hatchet for splitting, and a shovel or transplanting spade for digging.
I would love a shovel that warns me if I'm about to slice through landscape lighting wiring or other buried metal. How does this work, what sort of indicator does the detector have?

This is for digging after you have gone over a target with a metal detector. The shovel itself does not detect anything. It just cuts through the earth like it’s butter and the shovels a warm knife. So yeah. You need a separate tool to find buried wire.
