Product Overview

  • Designed for in-line (below ground) installation
  • Long lasting durability with energy efficient, low power solenoid
  • Heavy Duty Construction with 3/4" fem. threaded inlet and outlet
This residential and light commercial grade in-line valve replaces Rain Bird and other irrigation valves installed below ground with 3/4 in. female threaded inlet and outlet. It can be used with any 24-Volt AC irrigation timer. Its unique reverse-flow design helps prevent flooding in the event of internal diaphragm failure, keeping the valve closed and saving water. This valve can be applied with all types of watering devices including Rain Bird spray heads (1800, 600), and rotors (22SA, 32SA, 42SA+, 52SA, LG3 and AG5). Use in-line valves in locations where the use of a pressure vacuum breaker (PVB) or a double-check valve is required by code to protect against backflow. Check your local codes to determine what type of valve is required. After installation and before startup, always the flush system of dirt and debris manually using the valve's external bleed screw.
  • Designed for in-line (below ground) installation with approved back flow prevention device (not included)
  • 3/4 in. female threaded inlet and outlet (use 3/4 in. MPT threaded pipe adapters with Teflon tape)
  • 24 VAC, 50/60 Hz automatic operation or manual activation with bleed screw
  • Buna-N diaphragm offers superior performance in harsh water environments
  • Energy efficient, low power encapsulated solenoid with captured plunger for long lasting dependability
  • Reliable, non-clogging design
  • Reverse flow design reduces stress on diaphragm for dependable operation
  • In-line design minimizes pressure loss of dirt and debris during installation and system start-up
  • Operates automatically or manually with the manual bleed screw
  • Total Satisfaction Policy

I bought a house with a cheap Orbit valve already in place. When the valve closes, it causes a water hammer reaction in the irrigation supply pipe. I think it closes too fast. Does the rain bird close fast, and if it does, is there a way to slow it down so that it closes gradually ?
Asked by: mike
When you apply/remove power the valve opens/closes quickly. But, I did notice the small amount of hammer I had with my orbit valves was either gone or to small to notice with the rain bird valves. The flow rate seems to be higher with the Rain Bird valves. If you have a newer house with hammer issues rip out the clear flex fitting the incompetent plumbers put on toilets, under sinks, etc. and hard plumb it with copper.

Are these slow closing to prevent water hammering?

When you apply current, does it opens or closes? Is the opening/closing process instantaneous or its gradual and takes a few seconds? When you apply current, it opens, you apply the same polarity current again - it closes? How do you control opening and closing? By changing polarity? Do you need to run current, when it's in closed or opened position? I've read the manual in the store and there is no information about it. Thank you.

When you apply power the valve opens quickly. I did not notice that the small amount of hammer I had with my orbit valves was either gone or so small to not notice with the rain bird valves. The flow rate seems to be higher also with the Rain Bird valves.

The first two were so good I pulled the assembly out of the ground and replaced the three new Orbit Jar top valves that I had also installed. the Orbits had cover leaks and poor control. The Rain Bird valves got less than 5 stars (I'd have done 4.5 if I could) because I did not like the feel when screwing in the coils. I could not tell when they were in correctly and was afraid I'd break the threads or housing. My biggest pleasant surprise from the Rain Bird valves was how much more pressure and flow I was getting at the sprinkler heads. I'll be buying only Rain Bird from now on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a sprinkler valve.... Installed easily, and works like a champ. Price could be a bit better....but considering that I will probably not have to replace it for many years, it's ok.
