        Answer This Question

Some manufacturers have decibel information but based on a controlled environment. We do not have decibel levels for our powder tools as there are too many variables to account for such as size of the room where the operator is, load power level, and what material is being attached to concrete / block / steel. The appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is outlined in the operator license exam found online.

Does this take gas or some kind of cylinder in the handle
            ByDec 7, 2025
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Hi there - thank you for contacting us. The Mastershot uses small, color-coded powder cartridges (like .22 caliber) that load into the tool, often in a strip, not a gas cylinder in the handle; it's powered by the explosion of the powder charge, with a safety feature requiring it to be pressed firmly against a surface to fire. Also, require pins depending on the job that is being done. Please feel free to call us at (800)222-6990 or email us at ramset@itwbrands.com, if you have any questions.

Can I shoot flies with this??
              ByNov 23, 2025
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Hi there - thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, no you cannot and should not use a Ramset MasterShot to shoot flies. The tool is a powerful powder-actuated tool designed to drive specialized nails into hard materials like concrete or steel using a controlled explosive force, not as an insect control device. Please feel free to call us at (800)222-6990 or email us at ramset@itwbrands.com, if you have any questions.

Can I use this to attach a vapor barrier blanket to my concrete basement walls?
                ByNov 11, 2025
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

Hi there - thank you for contacting us. No, you should not use a 0.22 caliber powder actuated tool (PAT) to directly attach a vapor barrier (typically thin plastic sheeting) to concrete basement walls. The tool is too powerful and will likely destroy the vapor barrier material. Please feel free to call us at (800)222-6990 or email us at ramset@itwbrands.com, if you have any questions.

Easy to use but barrel does not stay closed
Only used for a few shots of 2-1/2” fasteners with washers using yellow power loads to fasten pressure treated 2x4 framing to basement concrete. Easy to use. No misfires. Ergonomic and not too loud (wore ear protection). Only issue is barrel/silencer slide does not close all the way after loading power loads, nor stay closed when the tool is clear of any load. Not sure if they are all like that or just the one I purchased.

                    Great Gun Awesome Tool!
I purchased this gun and shot over 200 nails with it. It worked perfectly and didn't skip a beat. Only one misfire the whole time. It gets hot; the idea is to make sure you let it cool down, then clean and lube after use like you any other weapon.

I had a 28 year old Remington that broke the piston during a load discharge during a project. So I needed a quick replacement. This was it. The silence function is good. However, the gun itself is unwieldy. I found it a bit difficult to align it and supply the sufficient pressure to allow it to discharge. My old gun had a hand grip at the end which allowed you to use your wrist, just one hand, to supply the pressure necessary to overcome the spring resistance. With this unit having a pistol grip offset, you cannot supply that pressure with one hand alone. You need to use your other hand on the butt of the gun to provide that pressure. If you are only doing occasional work with it, it will fit the bill. If you need to use it on a regular basis, I would recommend another model. So, my yes recommendation is a qualified yes.

                      better than drilling and nailing
Easy to use, works great. Drives in 3 inch nails with yellow .22 cal. Leaves about a quarter inch out.

                        22 special
A long time ago I purchased this Ramset 22cal nailer to do a number of repair jobs It's pistol design makes nailing easy. Just load the 22 blank and nail. Note always install nail first then the 22 blank for safety reasons and treat this like a real firearm same rules Recommend using oil to coat metal and moving parts I use coconut oil to lube the parts Good size and weight. hearing protection and eye ware is a must. Jobs Iv done one example repaired a steel fence By ramshot #3 and 1/1/2 inch nail to firmly secure the rods one of many applications I'v used it for

Hi there - thank you for sharing your positive experience with our Ramset Mastershot Powder Actuated Tool. We work hard to make sure our products are well designed.
While the unit is built of steel, the unit kept getting stuck after firing. The impact ramming rod would not return to its starting position. The unit took more time fixing the jammed rod than actual use. Waste of time.

                        NOT FOR BIG PROJECTS
I bought this because i needed to place over 2000 1" nails with washers in solid concrete (for lath). I detest this tool, and my reasons all come down to parts availability and durability. It comes with no cleaning instructions, but a full tear down is necessary every 50-75 shots. Once you get the hang of using the tool, that's downtime every 10-15 minutes. The bore fouls up with powder residue and prevents smooth action, keeps the empty .22 from ejecting, and causes the tool to kick like a mule. After my first 50-75 shots I took this tool in and tore it apart, only to find that the pin had ALREADY started to mushroom. The mushrooming of the pin caused total destruction of the pin guide. The pin guide is a tiny thin piece of metal you can bend by looking at it crooked. The guide is also not available for quick easy purchase, the only place I could find them is parts warehouses that take 3-5 days to get. I recommend finding these and buying at least 5 before staring your project. The design of the pin makes them necessary. And about the pin. CHEAP steel. plan on grinding the mushroom and squaring the end every 150 shots. you'll need a bench grinder. All of these problems could be fixed with a simple redesign of the pin guide an a harder steel. Oh and before I forget, the slide stop is also very soft cheap steel, so when your .22s don't eject DO NOT TRY HARDER. you will destroy the stop by trying to hard pop the action to get it ejected. Keep a steel pick on you to pry those things out when it starts to foul. If you think maybe I was using to big a load for the 1" nail, you'd be wrong. The green loads wouldn't dive them in all the way, had to go to yellow. So, if you have a big project and you buy this tool here's the list of other tools you'll need. Gun oil, 12GA, .22, .38 bore brushes and swabs, allen keys, bench grinder, files and lastly a safe distance between you and the design engineer responsible for this trash.
