Product Overview

  • Increases strength and fluidity
  • Increases compressive strength
  • For use with Rapid Set Cement® Products
Rapid Set FLOW Control has two functions. First, adding FLOW Control to your mix will significantly increase the fluidity of the mixture. Second, FLOW Control increases the strength and reduces the shrinkage of your mixture when you use the FLOW Control as a replacement for mixing water. When using FLOW Control, the same working consistency (or slump) may be produced with approximately 20 percent to 40 percent less mixing water. Use enough FLOW Control to achieve desired properties for your mix. Do not exceed 5 packets per 50 to 60 lb. bag of Rapid Set cement product. FLOW Control is designed for use with Rapid Set cement products and most other packaged hydraulic cements.
  • Customize your cement mixture
  • Increases strength and fluidity
  • Convenient packets allow for easy control of dosage
  • Easy to use

Questions & Answers

Could this be used with sandmix?

Making countertops with sandmix
Asked by: Justin
I used it with quikrite sand/topping and it worked fine - though I used 1/2 a pack in 2 bags of concrete. It will NOT make it self-leveling though - I used it for a cast wall.

Does this make the cement-all self-leveling?

I'm wondering if this flow control will cause the cement-all product to be more self-leveling. Thanks.
Asked by: Stray
It didn't seem to do that for me, though I used 1/2 a pack per 2 bags of concrete. I would suggest using a product specifically designed to make a pour self-leveling.

Does Rapid Set Flow Control work with Quikrete Sandmix concrete?

Does Rapid Set Flow Control work with Quikrete Sandmix concrete?
Asked by: TAllen
It worked for me - though I used half a packet per 2 bags of concrete. I probably could have used more. I wouldn't recommend using the max 3 or 4 packets per 80lb bag without testing it first.

I bought a bunch of packets of this to use while pouring cast concrete walls against the stone foundation in my basement (house is from 1923) - using a blend of quikrite sand/topping mix and regular quikrite (too add some aggregate). I did this as an alternative to tuck-pointing/parging/scratch/finish coat at a 2' height from my basement floor - it is a walk-out basement but the part that I did a cast-wall against is under-grade by about 2'. The goal is adding this was to allow the concrete to flow more easily into the voids between the stones - I did chisel, scrap, vacuum and power wash the stones to remove any remaining sand/lime/dirt/soil. Not only did this product help to reduce the amount of water I needed (by about a quart of water per 2 bags of concrete per 1/2 pouch), but it also visibly added a fluidity and viscosity to the pour. I only used a half-pouch per 2 bags because of other reviews concerning the sponge-i-ness after using this product - I feel like I could have used more than that. I did use a hammer-drill against the forms to vibrate the pour as I went - not only did I get a nice finish, but I saw tiny bits of liquid concrete gel escaping from gaps in the forms - something that I've never had with other pours, so I'll attribute that to this product. I had no problems with curing or strength and it was super easy to use. Highly recommended - I'll probably be using it for all my concrete pours in the future as an alternative to a liquid plasticizer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes Rapid Set Products Flow First off, this is only designed to work with Rapid Set Products. There are a ton of manufacturers and admixes in today's world, but this does not mean they will all play together well. So if you are mixing your own secret receipe of concrete, I would not use this, but if using a Rapid Set Product then 100% it works great. The more water you add to a cement based product the weaker the final product becomes. So when you have an application that you need it to flow or need to be able to ensure it gets into ever nook and cranny or a mold, or into small gaps, instead of adding more water (which only weakens the mix), add one of these, or up to four packets for each 50lb bag of Cement All, or which ever Rapid Set product you are using. If you have never used a product like this, it really is amazing how this little packet of white powder will suddenly turn your thick mix into a smooth, flow-able one. Just sprinkle it in, and continue to mix like normal. In a matter of seconds, your mix will transform. Very Cool! Cheers!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this stuff excellent product to achieve a smooth and pourable mixture that has less water which equates to higher strength. mix rapid set cement to thick milkshake consistency, then sprinkle in flow control to desired consistency. it's really cool to watch the thick cement mixture turn watery with just a little bit of powder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes Concrete Flooooooow I used this product with Rapidset concrete for use in a semi-complex concrete mold. I had never worked with mixing concrete before and my first attempt did not turn out well (I think I had too much water). My second attempt turned out very good. This flow control powder helped the concrete flow into the mold cavities well and I had minimal bubbles/voids in my finished product.

Not real sure yet of strength cause at 60 degrees it seems like it had double the working time or more of what I would expect without it. Not sure how much it affects slump, does seem kinda of claylike consistency cause I am using it for sculpture with sika acrylic bonder from home depot with sakrete concrete patcher. Most likely it will eventually enhance strength but i put in the maximum amount and it is still at 30 hours pretty delicate when without it i would expect it to be kinda strong. Probably best to try 1 packet per 94 lb cement or 2 packets on hot days. I tried 50% more than they recommend and very slow setting time, not sure it it saves on water 30% as expected. My recommendation and 4 stars is a wild guess in 28 days I'll know.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Certainly boosts fluidity, but retards set I ran out of my usual plasticizer (Riteks 7000 polycarboxylate) that I use for self-leveling microtopping so I picked this up. I works well enough and boosts fluidity but not as well as Riteks. However as I write this it's been 24 hours and I've only got a very soft set - like jello and I'm very concerned. Usually by now I can stand on it, this time my foot sank in. I used 4 bags mixed in with two 80lb bags of sackrete 3-1 sand mix + 6 quarts of portland cement + 2 gallons of 50/50 acrylic fortifier/water + 14 ounces of liquid latex + 4oz (by volume) fiberglass fibers. I added another ~gallon of water during the mix. The flow control must contain a set retarder, or it reacted badly to the acrylic&latex admix. I'll update after a day or so.
