Q:Does the head have one flat and one rounded face? The pics don't clearly show that. I would virtually always use it to drive rebar, stakes, etc into the ground - and it would be nicer for that with two flat faces. It would be annoying and tiring, to have to constantly look and flip the sledge around to the right face.

A:  The sledge hammer head is bilaterally symmetrical. Each end has a small taper/bevel to a flat finished edge. There is a close up photo of the head on the HomeDepot.com shopping site that should also help you to see the design of the sledge hammer head.

A:  Both sides of the hammer are the same, and each side tapers to a flat edge.

DEMOLITION BEAST! One of the most fun parts of any remodeling project is demolition. Although a ton of fun, this task is sometimes underestimated by homeowners. It is important to have a good quality sledgehammer for demolition work. The razor back sledgehammer features a steel anchor that safely attaches the head to the fiberglass handle. Both the bottom and over strike protection grip are very comfortable. It almost felt as comfortable as grabbing a tennis racket. I recently use this tool on a kitchen remodel project and it worked great. The tool comes with a lifetime warranty so buy with confidence.

I've tackled several demolition jobs and this 8 lb. Sledgehammer with 34 inch fiberglass handle made my work goals complete. I was able to achieve 2 projects with ease in the same day. The handle is very comfortable to grip and I didn't get a slip up. Having to skip back and forth while in the swing the red vibrant handle makes easy to locate. This heavy duty, solid double head steel hammer is serious. Be careful and wear saftey goggles while in use. There is for certain flying broken objects coming your way with this happy demo tool in motions. I did notice a lanyard hole at the end of the handle which makes it easy to stow away. Believe that this sledgehammer will be my go to tool for many future demos.

A great 10 pound sledge! I have used quite a few wood handled sledgehammers in the past. If they don’t have a sleeve to protect the shaft just below the head, they tend to get dinged up. Eventually the shaft has to be replaced. This is especially a problem if you’re using your sledge to hitting a splitting wedge on large tree rounds. But, this razorback sledge has what it calls “Triple Layer Overstrike Protection”. From the outside, this seems like a really heavy duty later that protects the shaft just below the head, preventing damage to the shaft. Add in the solid fiberglass core, and not only do you have a 10lb sledge that weighs just as much as my 8lb wooden shafted sledge, but you have an overall superior hammer capable of some real demolition duty. I used this to break up some old concrete retaining wall blocks and it chewed through them like soft butter. The construction seems to translate less vibration up the shaft as well, which is easier on the hands considering the work being done. This is the sort of tool you find projects for because you want to use it!

Perfect hammer for whacking the heck out of things. I have 2 lb, 3 lb and this 4 lb hammer in the small size as well as some larger ones. For jobs like driving stakes and smaller form pins – or 3 ft form pins where the ground is not rock hard this 4 lb hammer is a good size. It has enough heft to let you land a very good blow without being so heavy as to weary you out quickly. I'm 55 and I can swing this one a long time before wearing down. If you have a big form pin or rebar or something to drive in some rock hard ground then you may want to grab a big hammer but for a lot of jobs where you don't need all that overkill and weight this is a good size to have on hand. The striking surface is big enough to make it easy to nail your target solidly without having to be laser focused on it to avoid a misfire. The handle is very solid and seems like it will stay put in the hammer after a lot of use.

This sledge hammer is a great sledge. The fiberglass handle is strong, light, and easy to clean. The overstrike protection just below the head of the sledge is a fantastic idea, as smashing things can, and does, usually start to chip away at the handle. The rubberized grip softens the vibration, but it also has some texture to it to prevent your hand from slipping during use. There is a lanyard hole on the end of the handle, but unless you are Thor I don't really see that as being something you will ever use. This product is made in the USA.

A sledge hammer should last forever, but there are two dramatic ways a hammer can fail. If the head detaches from the handle it can become a dangerous missile. The other way is through overstrike when the handle and not the head hits the object being driven, breaking the handle and freeing the head from control. This sledge hammer claims to protect against both and the obvious care and attention that went into this product leads me to believe it. In use it has performed flawlessly for me. The straight handle improves accuracy over the slightly warped handle of my old hammer. The fiberglass handle reduces shock to my hands compared to a wooden handle. The vibrant color will make it much harder for me to misplace it.

10 pound Razorback sledge Good solid sledge with comfortable handle. The head of this sledge is locked onto the handle to prevent it from flying or falling off in use. The handle itself is strong and light. It has some sort of softish covering to increase grip and comfort. Bright red handle is hard to miss on the job site. So far, I used to to easily remove some 2x4 planks from an old dock I was dismantling. Assembled in the USA from foreign and domestic parts. Lifetime warranty.

I have to admit that the fiberglass handle was a bit off-putting as it has a very plastic feel to it and I just had the feeling that it was going to crack or snap when put through a decent workout. That said, I broke up a section of side walk (about 4" thick) as well as some old deck footings (about 8" thick) and it was no worse for the wear. I was also happy that it took me less than 10 minutes to create the pile of rubble that you see in the pictures. I'm a pretty big guy (6' 4" 220lbs) and the weight was perfect for swinging and obviously effective when applied to the concrete. Very pleased with this. Just need to find something else to demolish now... :)

I really like this 8 lb sledge, especially since it's the last 8 lb sledge I will ever have to obtain. My favorite aspect out of everything about this sledge is the Over Strike Protection. For some reason either my aim is off, or the handles of my sledges just seem to get beat up. If you're into demolition like plaster/lathe work or cast iron demo, this sledge is a must simply because of the Over Strike Protection. If a head of a sledge ever came off while working, you'll appreciate the Safe-Lock for head retention built into this sledge. This may sound silly, but I like the color a lot. It stands out against every background except red. So if using outdoors it doesn't get lost in with wood or such, and using indoors it's very easy to find in debris. Best of all, this comes with a LIFETIME WARRANTY TIP: When using, use your PPE to protect your eyes, ears, hands. If busting up cast iron, always cover the work so shards of metal do not fly.
