Questions & Answers

Would this work for shoveling small rocks on a driveway?

What little rain we got this winter in Southern California was enouph to deposit a 2 foot wide stretch of small rocks, sand and decomposed granite along my 300 yard long driveway. Would this shovel be a good choice for shoveling/scooping/scraping my driveway clean? Many years ago, I could have blasted it away with a pressure water attachement to my hose, but in our current historic drought, we're not allowed. In fact, we can only water our gardens twice a week for 10 minutes.
Asked by: MAC
I would use a common flat shovel made of steel that is smaller and less heavy. Aluminium does not slide along concrete as well as steel and the larger pan could be cumbersome if overloaded with rock. Would I use it, yes, however you might also check into a snow scraper used for clearing sidewalks by pushing snow or rocks to the side without lifting. For a line 300 yards long the scraper might be easier on your back. Then you can finish any heavier areas with the steel flat shovel.
