A: We would not recommend removing and reinstalling the head. The hydraulic equipment we use to ensure a secure fit would not be available to most homeowners.

This replaces my wooden handle one I had replaced the handle several times over the last 30 years and this fiberglass handle one requires less maintenance. five pounds is heavy enough for me digging up clumps of lemon balm for the animals.

I have used the mattock for a limited time and may feel different after some more experience with it. First, it is not forged as indicated in the description. That is based on the finish which is rough like a sand casting and there is visible grinding where the risers were removed from the casting. The head was cast in India. A forged head would have a much smoother finish than a casting. The head of a typical claw hammer is a good comparison. See photo. Secondly, the edge is already showing signs of damage. My forged head pick , which I have owned and used much more, is not showing similar damage. The casting may be adequate in the long term, but I am not convinced at this point due to the chips at the edge.

Very nice mattock!
This 5 lb pick mattock is very nice. It has a lightweight, solid core fiberglass handle that allows me to use it longer without fatigue. The handle is shaped like a baseball bat which provides a strong grip. The triple reinforced over-strike protection is handy given I tend to miss the target after a long day. I'm happy the steel anchored core will prevent the head from falling off too. I've used this for digging trenches and prying roots so far. It works well and happy to have a lifetime warranty.
I used this to dig up soil clay over a 120 sq ft area. I used the pick end to dig deeper holes for the plants to be planted. I also hit some rocks as part of the work. No bending of the mattock occurred. This is in contrast to some of the lower cost mattocks per some on-line reviews. I highly recommend the Razor-Back mattock.

What I wanted
I sought an American made tool in which I’d happily pay more. The info describing this product essentially assured me of this.
Although it is assembled in USA the pick head is stamped India. I certainly could have paid 1/2 as much for another foreign made pick. It seems heavy duty and I am sure it’ll do the weekend job it’s slated for and others for years to come yet I’m disappointed.
