Dig deeper with 1 motion. Featuring the new PowerEdge blade design, this shovel has a sharpened blade edge that has proven to penetrate ground 2x easier (compared to Razor-Back Shovel #2594400). The PowerStep provides extra space for your foot placement to help drive the blade into the ground while the SuperSocket increases the strength of the blade and handle connection for prying and pushing motions. Increase your control with the cushion end grip and rely on the weather-resistant fiberglass handle. Trust this shovel for the ultimate digging performance.

It does have a lifetime warranty for it. All you have to do if you break it is take it back to Home Depot with the receipt and exchange it. This is what I did when I broke my shovel, and I will tell you that it took a lot to break it. Also it wasn't broken on purpose. We were digging a trench and there were many tree roots several over one inch thick. The one that we broke it on was 3 inches in diameter, and two of us were working the shovel.
Return it to store, including receipt and get refund or replacement.
I did break the first shovel I bought and I just took it back to the Home Depot where I bought it and they switched it out with no problem.
They asked for pictures with the email.and they agreed sent me a new one
No idea on gauge, but thickness is closer to contractor than home gardener. This is a very sturdy, well made shovel that cuts through heavy sod and isn't damaged by my rocky soil.
