Product Overview

Get excellent insulation and sound reduction with Reach Air Double Reflective Insulation. It has two layers of sealed air laminated between two layers of durable reflective polyethylene. Reflective Air meets ASTM standards and complies with building code. It installs easily in attic spaces, exterior and interior walls, interior masonry walls, radiant floors, metal and steel buildings, knee walls, crawl spaces, garage ceilings and many other applications where insulation is needed. This insulation roll is 50 ft. long and 48 in. high. Reach Barrier reflective insulation products are one of the most versatile and energy efficient insulation products available. Radiant (reflective) barriers are installed in attics, walls, roof decking, and flooring. Most newly constructed homes contain radiant barrier insulation because of the proven effectiveness to decrease energy usage and cost by reducing summer heat gain and winter heat loss. Installing a radiant barrier may be the lowest-cost improvement that can produce the greatest overall reduction in energy usage and expense.
  • Reflective air2 insulation retains air longer and provides excellent insulation and sound reduction
  • Insulation is easy to install with no mess or fumes and will not cause itchy skin
  • Ideal for attics, exterior and interior walls, radiant floors, metal and steel buildings, crawl spaces, garage ceilings and many other applications
  • Reflective air2 insulation meets ASTM standards and complies with building code

Will this lower the heat in my attached garage with metal door. Putting it on inside of door

Asked by David June 13, 2021

Answer

Dear David: First, you cannot simply glue Reach or other reflective / radiant barriers on the garage door. You must build / create a ~3/4" air gap between the door and the reflective barrier, to achieve the claimed R-value. Plus, this air gap must be cafrefully sealed to avoid air leaks. Plus, you must maintain this sealed air gap -- which is difficult on a moving garage door. Home Depot sells a much better solution with higher R-value (R-8), that is easy to install. Would this work in a prefab chicken coop to help with heat and cold ?

Asked by tbecker October 6, 2020

Answer

Dear TBecker: No. Reflective/radiant barrier products like Reach and Reflectix can provide some benefit in a hot ventilated attic in the summer time -- but not for a chicken coop, and definitely not during the winter. Radiant barriers do not work in the winter because cold cannot be 'reflected' and people or chickens are not 'radiant'. (They do not emit lots of infrared energy.) Plus, Reach and similar products provide almost no insulation by themselves -- just R-1. You have to build a sealed air gap to achieve the results (in summer) claimed on the package and marketing materials. The best option for a chicken coop is Foamular XPS foam board, which is sold by Home Depot. Foamular delivers R-5 per inch of thickness and does not absorb moisture. XPS is relatively easy to cut with a steak knife, and be sure to carefully seal the joints to stop air leaks. DAP 230 works well. Do not, however, install any type of foam board near a heat source, e.g. a heat lamp or electric heating element. Use rock wool near heat sources. I hope this is helpful, Mark

Answer

Dear Tammy: If the window in your RV door is single pane, Reflectix will work just fine. If it is double-pane, however, the increased heat can damage the seals. For your windshield, Reflectix again will work just fine. You can use small pieces of double-sticky back Velcro to fasten it in the corners. Home Depot sells Velcro. I hope this is helpful, Mark

Answer

No, this product did not have an adhesive backing. Both sides are reflective, but no adhesives. I used mine to insulate the large sun roof in my car, which had only a flimsy bit of plastic sheeting between the hot sun roof and the interior of the car. It worked great in both summer and winter.

How well would this work for my crawl space? I want to do the underside of my floor

I used the Double Reflective Insulation to wrap a 46 foot, 14" diameter HVAC air return duct in the attic. I used 1/2" spacer strips under the wrap to increase the R value of three to around R8. The 4 foot wide roll is perfect to wrap a 14" pipe.

Put this on the walls of my metal building. Using a infrared heat gun the wall with the insulation was 30 degrees cooler. With the sun shining on it than the uninsulated portion right next to it.

We cut out window coverings for ou RV front and side windows all the way around. We also lined one cabinet on all six sides to provide a cooler place for non perishables and bread, etc. It has all worked out extremely well. This is a great product.

It's only been a couple of weeks. I needed to find a product that would work on a metal building lean-to to stop the early morning dripping and rust that follows. I had seen a previous review where success was achieved with this product in a similar barn add-on. This was installed between the metal purlins and galvalume roof during construction. The beams still sweat a little but don't drip. The white reinforced fiberglass insulation rolls only lasts 7-8 years in this kind of use so this is my hope for better longevity. Easy to work with and taped the joints with 3M 2.5" wide foil tape available from the other place. It feels like it does a decent job of insulating also. An added bonus is that due to the reflective nature I wont need as much lighting.

Great for reflecting lost radiator heat back into my home. Easy to put up- you can get fancy by adhering to the wall, but I just cut it and placed behind the radiators- my 100 yr old house is toasty warm
