yearly energy bill?

Not sure yet -- I've only had it for a couple fo months so far. It doesn't seem to run a lot though (with the heater noticeably kicking on and off), and the water stays reasonably hot. This unit is billed by the manufacturer as being well insulated, and a water heater blanket is not necessary nor recommended.

You could probably take a good 5 minute shower! After all it is only a 10 gallon tank!

Can you install with flexable water hoses ?

Asked by JOHN April 9, 2021

Answers

Yes. Installation with braided stainless steel flexible hose is common. Use 1/2 inch male to male nipples between the heater and the hose (not included, brass or steel, brass recommended, steel is less expensive). Neither the nipples or flexible hose is included, but both are available at Home Improvement stores, such as Home Depot. The line side (wall valve side) of the hose requires a connector that matches your wall valve, often 3/8 inch, but in some installations also 1/2 inch, and these can either be compression type or FIP connectors. If this is beyond your expertise to identify, then you need a plumber. The water heater end of the hose should be a 1/2 inch FIP (female iron pipe) hose connection.

Does this 20 gallon water heater have a drain valve? The pictures do not show that it has one?

No, you need pump out through the outlet. Easier if you use a small transfer pump.

This water heater was a perfect product for my overland trailer, I did replace the heating element with a 300watt dc element an a 12v thermostat. But it works perfectly heats the 2.5 gals in 30min only powerd by my 200watt solar panel. I know its not supposed to be setup like this but this has been on the moab trails pulled behind our jeep so it def can take a beating. I did add some insulation too the box and that made a huge improvement on keeping the heat in.

I'm very pleased with this choice, fits my need perfectly. I installed the Rheem Performance 2.5 gal 6-Year 1440-Watt Single Element Electric Point-Of-Use Water Heater in my new Storage Building. It is installed in a lower 15" cabinet next to a utility sink - making it a perfect fit for this application. If you use all the hot water, the little heater recovers quickly (15 minutes from cold to hot - much faster for cool to warm). I have used Rheem products for many years and they make excellent products. My father owned a Plumbing Service and Construction Company when I was younger and we sold a lot of Rheem Water Heaters up to 50 gallons and some 100 gallon commercials. I recommend this 2.5 gal water heater for applications that fit it's capabilities. Pat

I am using this tank as water storage for a seasonal solar outdoor kitchen and shower. I was hoping to be able to hold water hot until the following morning, but the tank is not that well insulated. During the day it does double the amount of hot water in the system and holds the water hot into the night. This is a passive system and I have no plans to connect it to 110 AC power.

I have been using this heater ow for 3 weeks. It certainly heats up the water very fast and really hot if you turn it up. It is 2.5 gallons so the really hot water does not last long but I only wanted it for rinsing dishes and utensils at the sink. My home hot water heater is a long distance so it take about 3 minutes to start getting warm. I connected the hot water line to the cold figuring that by the time the small heater runs out of hot water I would start getting hot water from my home heater. But, it had filled up with cold water because of the distance it had to travel. It would have been nice if they would have included some 1/2" pipe nipples but I made a trip to the Home Depot. It really fits nicely under my sink.

This is my second location for one of these heaters. The first was under the kitchen sink (4 years old). This one on an outdoor shower. Easy install (If attaching with flex hoses, install a 10'' horizontal extension on the hot water side to "temper" the water before it enters the hose.).

Noticed that Rheem had posted saying that it may just be that one out of many. Not addressing the fact that on the box that there is a 6 year warranty. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and bought another one on 1/16/2016 and had it installed so that no changes in layout or setup had to be done. On 11/15/2018, discovered the water dead and water leaked. Saved by the drain pan and drainage pipe again. So 2 out of 2 in 2 years. I have attached my receipt as proof of purchase from Home Depot. Not buying Rheem again. Don't buy this heater.
