Q:Is this heater for outside hookup she has a mobile home
    by|May 21, 2023

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Tomz and thank you for your question. The location chosen for the water heater must take into consideration the following: Local Installation Regulations This water heater must be installed in accordance with these instructions, local codes, utility codes, utility company requirements or, in the absence of local codes, the latest edition of the National Electrical Code. It is available from some local libraries or can be purchased from the National Fire Protection Association, Batterymarch park, Quincy, MA 02269 as booklet ANSI/NFPA 70. Location Locate the water heater in a clean dry area as near as practical to the area of greatest heated water demand. Long uninsulated hot water lines can waste energy and water. Place the water heater in such a manner that the thermostat and element access panels can be removed to permit inspection and servicing such as removal of elements or checking controls. The water heater and water lines should be protected from freezing temperatures. Do not install the water heater in outdoor, unprotected areas. Make certain the floor underneath the water heater is strong enough to sufficiently support the weight of the water heater once it is filled with water. !CAUTION: The water heater should not be located in an area where leakage of the tank or connections will result in damage to the area adjacent to it or to lower floors of the structure. Where such areas cannot be avoided, it is recommended that a suitable catch pan, adequately drained, be installed under the water heater.

A:  You would need a single dual pole (240V) breaker. Both elements are fed off of the same power cable.

The upper thermostat screws were loose resulting in burning part of the plastic cover that goes over it. Once the screws are tightened we have not had any issues. Rheem customer support provided a $150 reimbursement to call a plumber, but we ended up fixing it ourselves by tightening the screws. I recommend opening both thermostat covers and ensure that the screws are tighten.

                    Very happy with tank
I bought and installed this 30 gallon tank with a tank timer about 2 months ago and couldn't be happier with it. It installed easily and ended up fitting perfectly in my crawl space. Was very, very impressed they included 2 insulation blankets and tape to wrap the entire tank twice. I converted from oil tankless hot water to electric and regret not have doing it sooner!

Dangerous Lack of Quality Control. S/N M362126316
See the pic. Yellow wire for top element was clamped against heater body by thermostat bracket, which pierced the insulation and grounded wire against the heater body. All the lights in the house dimmed/brightened on fire-up, as if someone tossed a plugged-in toaster into a filled bathtub. No hot water. Breaker wasn't tripped. Found top element wire melted through, as in pic, so unit was dead. Bypassed the dead wire with the same one from the departing Rheem heater. Heater fired up OK, but now was heating excessively, tripping its Reset button. Testing of both thermostats showed both were bad, allowing excess heat. Home Depot was good about picking up this dangerous/defective unit. Following these events, house experienced lots of new electrical issues that required professional investigation. Concerning/disappointing purchase that could have been avoided with even elementary QC in the Mexican plant.

                          Not well made
Bought the "best" of their small units from HD for my cottage. Just under 5 years and it already needs replacing. It lost heat, the unit leaks internally, its rusted out from behind the temperature & pressure valve. There's rust and water accumulation in the drip pan. Maybe they will replace it since its still under warranty, or maybe I'll have to pay a "price difference", which seems to be the opposite what a warranty is all about. Wont know until I disconnect it, drain it, haul it back to Home Depot and hope the associate doesn't become glassy-eyed with confusion when I try to explain it. Since this is the only Rheem product I've ever purchased, they have a 100% failure rate in my experience. I expect better from manufacturers of so-called "durable goods" like water heaters. In the future, as long as I have the option of any other brand available to me, I will not purchase another Rheem product.

Excellent water heater! I picked a shorty so I could put a shelf above it for towels, it is in the utility closet in my bathroom. (Trailer) I went with the 30 gallon because the 38 wouldn't have fit through the doorway. It replaced a 16 year old 30 gallon Bradford White that did me just fine until it developed a small leak in the tank. I'm looking forward to a reduced electric bill. Estimated yearly cost of operation on the Bradford White was $555 compared to $293 on the Rheem. I have only had it for a day but initial operation went as smooth as could be! Zero issues, no leaks, nothing to complain about. I just let it fill up with the bathroom faucet opened up, purged all of the air out of the tank, flipped the breaker on, and I had hot water in no time! Heats MUCH faster than the one it replaced, no comparison. Time will tell how it really performs though. I flush the sediment out every 6 months and replace the anode rod every 2 years in my water heaters to get the most out of them. I recommend you do the same.

The original water heater that was installed in my condo back in 2006 finally crapped out. I was able to purchase unit and have it installed the same day. It is a quality product even though it was a bit smaller at 38 gal vs the original 40 gal tank. Other than that it seems to be working just fine. Very happy with the product! Cost of the install was highway robbery because it was located inside versus in a garage or outside which doubled the price.
