Leaked between the seal where the tank meets the heat pump within 10 minutes of filling the tank up and bleeding the air out. Based off what I’ve read online, this happens quite often. I returned it and went electric instead.

This water heater is super efficient and will save a lot of money over its lifetime. The one drawback is the noise of the compressor and the super cold air in the basement. Looking at ducting the cold air out to the attached garage and insulating the ceiling to quiet down the unit. This is great if you have the right spot to place it away from anywhere you ever plan on sleeping. Louder than the fridge almost as load as the dryer. Two weeks so far so good on keeping up with hot water even after back to back showers.

          Useless EcoNet App
The Econet app for this doesn’t keep the set schedule, which is one of the primary reasons I purchased this “smart” “WiFi” water heater. Despite a set schedule, it repeatedly stays on the last setting and states it is following the schedule when it isn’t. This is a known issue, and Rheem hasn’t fixed it. Read the most recent reviews in the AppStore for EcoNet. Do not buy this expensive Rheem water heaters if you actually want to have your water heater on a schedule. Go with another brand.

We have six people in family we take shower every day. Last month uses was around 145 kwh. In my area it’s around $22 per month. Before I used to get $60-70 only for hot water heater. I have span smart breaker box. This how I track everything

Certainly Efficient, But Room For Improvement.
HD delivered, installed myself, only issue leak sensor got wet, 3 days to dry to stop warnings. Replaced 80gal trad WH. Hook up on side increases hot water delivery time ~5-10 sec compared to top connections. Installed in garage, HP noise negligible. Use app to set temp to 135 about an hour before peak usage times, 120 otherwise. App and WH frequently out of sync, needs frequent resets. Over 6mos, used 535kWh, @8.79c/kWh, <$8 a month to run. 500 chars not enough for detailed review.

So far we love our new water heater. Love the app and how it has a schedule to raise and lower the temp based on time. It also helps cool out garage in the Florida heat. Wish the water softener and water heater used the same app, only downside.

                leaking from cold water
I purchased this a week ago and had it installed. I noticed a puddle of water under the unit. I thought it was from the condensation outlet since i havent tied it to an exteenal source yet, but i have it dripping inside a bucket. Upon further inspection, i see that the cold water input is the culprit. The water is leaking ever so slowly from the threads. For a much as i paid for this unit, this should not be happening. Very port manufacturing. I already reached out to Rheem but its been 24 hours and havent heard back. I can’t return to the store, because i threw away the box and i have no way of getting it there. I paid for ahipping since i do not own a truck. I guess ine should really pay close attention to ALL the reviews

                Hello,

We are sorry to hear about the issues you’re experiencing with your water heater. It’s indeed frustrating when a new product doesn’t meet your expectations, especially when it involves a significant investment.

The leak from the cold-water input could be due to a variety of reasons, including a faulty seal or an issue with the threading. It’s good that you’ve reached out to our Technical Support team, and we hope they are able to assist you. In the meantime, you might want to consider contacting a professional plumber who can inspect the unit and possibly fix the leak.

As for the return, even without the original box, Home Depot may still accept returns depending on their policy. It might be worth reaching out to them to discuss your options.

Remember, working with water and electricity can be dangerous, so please ensure safety precautions are taken. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact 866-279-4566 between the hours of 7 A.M. and 7 P.M. CST.

it's a good machine, but you'll know you're not on gas
I'm doing a complete basement remodel and in order to regain some conditioned floor space, I replaced the old hydronic heating and now the gas fired hot water heater. I was able to relocate the water heater to an unconditioned attached small garage. The water lines are now about 6' longer than before. The first thing is the warnings about the water temperature. I don't know who can take a shower at 120° but not I. Set the temperature at 135/140 especially if it's a long run from the heater to the shower head. This will also speed up recovery as you'll use less hot water from the tank if the water in the tank is hotter. Generally pleased but advise to get the largest model you can fit in the space. These don't recover like a gas fired water heater.

                  Hi Galen,

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Performance Platinum 65 Gal. 10-Year Hybrid High Efficiency Smart Tank Electric Heat Pump Water Heater. It sounds like you’ve made some smart adjustments to optimize its performance in your specific setup.

Your advice about setting the temperature higher (135/140°) for longer water line runs is insightful. As you mentioned, this can help speed up recovery and use less hot water from the tank if the water in the tank is hotter.

It’s also a good point that these models don’t recover like a gas-fired water heater, so choosing the largest model that fits the space can be beneficial.

We are glad to hear that you’re generally pleased with your purchase. Your feedback will certainly be helpful to others considering a similar setup.
