WARNING - Fire Hazard
We purchased this & had it professionally installed on 3/15/23. On 4/15/23 the heater sent a code to my app: Alarm Code - A114 : Safety Temperature Protection. Please contact your installer or local professional. I called Rheem & they sent out a plumber on 4/25/23. He removed the panel where the main control board is located & the components inside were melted. He told me you’re lucky your house didn’t catch on fire. DON’T RISK BUYING THIS UNIT! I’m going with a basic unit now.

2nd water heater since 2019
Purchased this water heater in December 2019 and I've had to get the water heater to replaced twice due to lower heating element failure, which is not repairable due to the damage it caused to wiring , I do not recommend this product, Also trying to get your money back from Rheem is an act of congress they will take there time paying you back and will only reimburse a curtain amount.

LASTED A MONTH AND A HALF! 2nd one
Do not buy this unit unless you like being woken up by leak sensors and alarms. For 2 years I’ve dealt with this till the tank started leaking. I had to get a new one. Leak sensor started the first day and has continued ever since. Tech support sent me info to disable the sensor but I never got time to do it. Now on my second one it’s leaking after a month and a half. I will not have another put in!!

Nice Hot Water Heater
Bought this to replace a 20 year old 40 gallon Rudd. The previous heater was working fine, but here in Florida the insurance companies force your hand and seemed like a good idea anyway given its age. The first heater we recieved was dentend at the bottom. I noticed this after I cut open the box, so half a roll of packing tape to rebuild the box and off to Home depot for another one. Rheem did a horrible job packaging these heaters!!! The only protective styrofoam is on the top to protect the leak shutoff valve and fill the void in the box. So buyer beware check it over good before you install. The second one I hand selected and it was in excellent shape. The install was pretty much standard with the exection of the leak warning code once we fired it up. Note if you wipe the catch basin down with a damp cloth and just touch the red wick around the bottom that all it takes. In other words its almost impossible to install this with out tripping it. I put it in bypass and after it dried out the error code cleared. Having read some not so great reviews including many stories of dented up ones, bad lower elements, leaks and almost fires I am hoping those were just odd cases. So far we love it boot up time is super quick, low electricy usage according to app, and hot water temp is very consistent and lasting. ( I like to take long showers)

Purchased and installed 12.18.2020 and less than two years had...
Purchased and installed 12.18.2020 and less than two years had a leak into the electrical junction box at the top of the water heater. Had to remove myself and bring back to Home Depot. Will not buy a rheem again. One star given because I did get a store credit but will not be purchasing a water heater there again .

Easy install, does what it says it will do
Perfectly sufficient water heater for my family of 5. It recovers very quickly and was able to produce a lot of hot water within the first hour of installing it. It was easy to install and the app is handy when you want tonmake sure you have enough hotnwater before you go hop in the shower.

Excellent Hot Water
Installed this heater in September 2019. Hardest part was walking it up 4 floors. That was absolutely BRUTAL. I took a gamble as I read mixed reviews, especially the dreaded "A120" code. That was easily solvable. During the removal of the old heater and install of the new one, a small bit of water found its way into the pan. That what's throws the code. I set up a small shop fan and let it blow for a few hours to dry out the bottom moisture sensing ring. Bingo! code cleared. Auto close valve reset with no issues. I also opted to use SharkBite fittings and valves with 1/2" copper pipe. (Why? Well, I'm lazy and I've never had one leak in 15 years. They're approved for use in all 50 states. They're also good to 200 psi.) I decided to add a filter on the cold-water supply side too, glad I did. Easy to blow down and even easier to replace the filter element when needed. Oh, and yes, I have an expansion tank, it's not visible from the angle I took the photo. I opted for the Econet module. I'm glad I did. You can incorporate this into your schedule and lower the heater temperature on your schedule. You can also use geofencing. Works like a BOSS. The 12-year warranty is also a big plus. All things considered; I highly recommend this unit.
