        Easy do-it-yourself installation. Have it operating in the heat pump-only mode. The machine hardly runs at all and supplies plenty of hot water at 118 degrees. The heater is in the garage and you can barely hear it operating as the fan blows out cool air, I have not tried setting up the WIFI app as it does not affect the daily heater's operation. This is my second hybrid water heater system. You can't beat the efficiency they produce for the small amount of electricity or in my case solar energy these hybrid systems use.

          Water Heater Died After 2 Months
          My new heat pump water heater simply died/won't turn on after just 2 months of normal use. The circuit breaker did not trip (so that wasn't the issue) but even after I reset it, the water heater still won't turn on. This happened Friday evening and of course Rheem's customer support is only open 8:00-5:00 Monday-Friday, so now for the next 3 days (or more) my family will have no hot water after spending $2000 on this unit. I will post an update on how Rheem will handle this issue.

            Exceeded expectations
            Replaced 50 gallon gas water heater. The plumber never called back after viewing for install. So I installed myself. You may want to have Home Depot set up the install instead of hiring a plumber. Purchase was made in order to go electric now that we have solar on the roof. The heat pump mode alone has provided plenty of hot water with a quick recovery. We have 5 adults in a large house. Zip code 93551. Cold tap starts at 67 degrees F. Water heater is in our garage. The pump is relatively quiet (box fan on medium). Air from the exhaust is quite cold.

              Replaced a 22 year old AO Smith (previous homeowner). Although we thought the old water heater worked well, we always seemed to run out of hot water. Since installing this Rheem 65 gal water heater not only do we never run out of hot water - our electric bill has dropped by one third. We are very pleased with the app as well. We are able to monitor our usage. Worth the extra cost of a non hybrid. Has a $500 rebate from our power company. We should have installed this 2 years ago!

              Great Product!
              I replaced a 20 year old gas water heater with this heat pump water heater. I had it delivered to the local home Depot and it arrived in good condition. It was fairly easy to install, especially given that this was the first time I had replaced a water heater. The only challenge I had was that I could not set up the smart functions using my android phone. I tried for 15 minutes and gave up. I tried an iOS device and it was able to connect immediately. From there, setup was very easy. I am running mine in heat pump only mode. Overall I'm very satisfied with the purchase and it is performing very well. The cost to run this is much lower than my gas water heater.

                The unit is functioning perfectly, I have it set to ecomode, and we're averaging 8.96 kw of energy each week, much less than the normal, resistance heated water heater that we replaced.

                Was relatively easy for our installer to put in place. He complained about the hot and cold water connections not being both on the top of the unit, as is generally common. Not too noisy. Looks pretty good (for a water heater) in the corner of the work shop. I recommend it, especially if you can find a local rebate (I found one in California that is available until at least the end of the year.)

                Buy the model with NO auto shut off!
                Installation was a breeze, taking 2 hours with hot water 45 minutes later. Super efficient, using only 1/6th of what my old unit needed. Love it! My problem is w/the auto shut off valve. It randomly shuts off the water. The app does not permit you to reset the valve - you have to clear the error manually. Tired of messing with it I removed the auto shutoff module and unplugged the thermocouple. Buy the other one without the auto-shutoff and save yourself $200.

                  Already saving money! The app tracks it!
                  Saved $800 at checkout with Maryland rebate by phone! Already running at only ~0.5-0.75kwh per day. Also, Ignore any comments about the heat pump noise. A small fan runs and you hear some compressor noise. We have a small boiler room that is across the hall from a bedroom. The louvered door required for this HW heater means some noise gets through. We completely mitigate that by setting the heating schedule with the wifi app to stop at 10PM and turn on at 7:00AM. Wakey wakey!
