We want to get this system but I do not think it will work for us unless someone has a solution we are not aware of....we have ONE electrical switch in the house that turns on all 4 front lights at once (2 at front door and 2 at garage). we did this for convenience of not having to walk downstairs to turn front lights on separately. But now we wanted to replace ONE of the garage lights with this floodlight...however does that mean that it will not work unless we keep the electrical switch ON all of the time (day and night) which in turn means leaving the other 3 front lights on all of the time as well!
Asked by: alliejm
Put photo cell light bulbs in your other 3 lights then leave the switch on all the time each light will work independently

Can these mount horizontally under an overhang as opposed to wall mounted?

Asked by: Gus
If you look at Ring's website, it says in the "Installation" tab: "Mounting Base Integrated mounting base/stand with adjustable angle. Can mount to a wall or ceiling." So according the people who actually make it. Yes.

Customer Reviews

Outdoor Wi-Fi Wired Standard Surveillance Camera with Motion Activated Floodlight with Chime Pro in White (2-Pack) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 1706.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Holiday Weekend Nightmare I own 3 Ring Doorbells and two stick up cams and have been impressed with the performance of these devices. When the floodlights became available, I ordered 3 of them. After installation, one went offline and started emitting a loud high pitched squeal. After spending an hour on the phone with Ring I was able to get the the squealing stopped and the device functioning again. This evening, I was alerted by my Kuna porch light of someone at the door. I could hear the same high pitched squeal from the Ring floodlight. There was a police officer at the door responding to a noise complaint. I am over 400 miles away at this time. I had to call a friend that has a key to drive 30 minutes to my home and turn the power off to the floodlight. When I get home, I will need to borrow an xtension ladder so I can push the reset button on the Ring Floodlight and spend another hour on the phone with the Ring support team. This product is just not quite ready for market. Two of three have failed. When can I expect the third to fail?

I purchased this to add to my Ring Pro so I was already familiar with Ring products. The box comes with everything you need and the install took no more than 15-30 minutes. I replaced a LED motion detector flood light with this Ring Outdoor Wi-Fi camera. Overall works very well like Ring products, however does have a minor flaw. The flaw that bugs me is even though the sensitivity is set to People only, rain will set off the floodlight and alert. Now I have readjusted this many times and pointed it out but this still continues. At night is the most annoying as the light will come on, alert will be triggered and no one is there, its just raining. I can see through the app the rain and its causing the motion. I set the flood light to 30 seconds to minimize the annoyance, and snooze the alarm but really rain? I would still recommend this product dispute this as the cam is great and its feature rich. Make sure you have a decent WI-Fi signal where your mounting it. I had no problem but don't expect it to work too far from your router's location.

Wow something that works the first time, picture quality is way better then expected, you can zoom in on the recordings. We bought the Doorbell, then we bought the battery powered floodlight, then the electrically powered search lite that we removed & mounted on one of our existing garage lights at our driveway, this is a good way to do it because you get a free 30 days of free recordings with every new purchase. We have already found our neighbors dog doing his #2 on our lawn and two coyotes' roaming around the fount yard. The App is easy to understand, I wish it was easier to save a recording though. The battery powered floodlight lasted about 4 1/2 weeks w/one bat before I needed a charge it, it only comes with one battery the second battery you will have to purchase on your own for 30 clams. I don't know how to easily disable the camera for when we are home yet, Just going in and out creates a lot of videos to review. Overall it will be worth the 10 month charge when I stop buying more new cameras.

Was easy to install and set up. We also have the Ring doorbell, which we've had for year now and we just added the floodlight with cam. Coincidentally this week while I was at work, the police and fire department were at my house and the Ring cam picked up on it. I got a notification right away on my cell phone, but didn't respond to it. Anyway a few minutes later I checked the video to see fire and police cars parked in front of my my house blocking the street. Was able to call the police department right away to find that wires had blown down and we needed to get home to address it. That was nice. If I would have responded right away, we could have talked to the policeman directly with Ring. That would have really been cool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this product This replaced my old-fashioned flood lights and is such an improvement. When presence is detected, the camera begins recording (the lights turn on also only if it is dark) and you are alerted via smartphone if you have it enabled. You are able to set the sensitivity for alerts. It has a 2-way speaker system and a siren you can turn on if wanted. It is VERY loud and would scare the wits out of anyone that should not be on your property. All of this is operated by your smartphone. There is also capability to program the lights to come on for a period you set (from dusk to dawn if you like). The video is 1080p HD and is so clear. I needed the ChimePro to extend my wifi range since this was very far from my router. Works great! Lights and motion detector can be rotated however you want them. Set up was easy to follow once my wifi was strong.

I think we may have jumped the gun on this purchase., Ring needs to work out some kinks. We have the Ring doorbell and are very pleased with it so we are familiar with Ring and how this product SHOULD work. The first camera we installed in our backyard-it was so sensitive that we had to dial it down to only pick up people since it was constantly going off with the slightest breeze. The other camera we installed in the front of our house and it is constantly going offline. We've had it for a couple of weeks now and sometimes when it is working we only get a black screen after being triggered and a motion detected. I have sent complaints to Ring that their software appears to need an update but have not gotten a reply. Note that to reset the wi-fi you must get up on a ladder and push a button on top of the camera-that is a pain in the A and really NOT convenient for everyone to do, especially when it's going of on a regular basis. We are seriously considering returning the one camera but since it came in a two pack not quite sure how to do that without taking them both down-again a pain! NOT very happy with this product and very disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first smart home device I purchased 3 of these at once, as my first step to my smart home project, I have one each of the 3 main sides of my home. I love them nice sleek looking, very bright lights which is great. I installed two myself which took me about 15 to 20 mins each. The other one I needed an electrician to do a complete hookup as the was none on that side of the house. I love ring products, recommend to everyone. Yes you pay a little more for the product which is made great but subscription monthly and yearly plans are cheap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I will start off by stating the two issues that keep this from getting a 5-star review. ***THE R... I will start off by stating the two issues that keep this from getting a 5-star review. ***THE RING FLOODLIGHT CAM IS ONLY DESIGNED FOR VERTICAL MOUNTING SOLUTIONS. OUT OF THE BOX, IT WILL NOT MOUNT HORIZONTALLY UNDER THE EAVES OF YOUR HOUSE.*** I typed this in all caps, because I feel like this information is under-emphasized pretty much anywhere these things are listed for sale. I don't think having a photo of it mounted vertically in the listing is adequate to emphasize that vertical mounting is the ONLY option. And I feel like there are enough people who are going to be buying these as a direct replacement for older motion lights that are already mounted under the eaves of their house. My solution, while not optimal, was to modify the plastic collar on the camera to give it better range of motion to be mounted under the eaves. There is a video on YouTube explaining how to do this using a dremel tool. I was fortunate enough that I had one location requiring vertical installation and one requiring horizontal. I figure if I ever have an issue with the one I modified, I can swap over the un-modified collar from the other before sending it in for warranty. The other issue is related to the app. If the devices lose power for any reason, the app defaults the push notifications back to "off". You would think that preference would be stored in-app rather than in the camera, but that does not seem to be the case. So if you lose power while you're at work or on vacation, you could go hours or days without getting push notifications, unless you happen to notice that it defaulted back to off. Definitely not an ideal situation. I have submitted this to Ring as a bug. On to the rest of the review. PROS: - The product feels sturdy and of quality build. - Installation is a breeze. The hook they give you to suspend the fixture while completing the wiring is one of the most useful out-of-the-box tools I've ever used, and it is going into my toolbox for future use. - Setup with the app is also a breeze. Just make sure you keep track of which device came out of which box (if you are installing multiple), because you scan the box to begin setup and scanning the wrong box for a particular device will complicate setup slightly. - The app interface is with the cameras is great. Miles beyond the Foscam app on an older camera we have. - I really like the ability to share videos with your neighborhood (It's similar to "Nextdoor" but only for sharing videos). And the weekly crime report is also nice, because so far it has reassured us that we have picked a low crime activity neighborhood. - The motion detection is very accurate and alerts are extremely prompt, usually coming in within 5 seconds of detecting motion. I still need to play around with the sensitivity, as the majority of our alerts so far have come from cats, opossums, and raccoons walking across our back patio in the middle of the night. The positioning of our front camera is such that it will alert me when someone pulls in the driveway. This gives me plenty of time to open the app, connect to the camera, and watch them before they even get to the front door. So I would be able to talk to them over the intercom or initiate the siren to scare a porch pirate off. - The floodlights are smaller but also brighter than the old Costco ones I replaced. I was also pleasantly surprised that they are a warm white rather than the cool blue-ish color of a lot of modern floodlights. CONS: - The aforementioned mounting and motion alert issues is the biggest cons. - We kept having an issue where we would get a legitimate alert, and then about a minute later we would get a second alert. The second alert always corresponded to the floodlights turning off and going back to night vision. I think I have isolated the problem here. The camera is mounted in a way that a significant amount of the side of the house is in view. I think what was happening is the floodlight was reflecting off of our light colored siding in a way that the motion sensors detected the change from lights on to lights off as motion. I changed the motion zone to only come up to the edge of the house, but not detect on the side of the house, and the double alerts have stopped. - The night vision is OK. If you have any light colored surfaces in the foreground (like our house siding or a light colored sidewalk), they will reflect the most infrared light and the camera will expose for that. Which means the darker/less reflective parts of your yard are underexposed. I'm thinking of buying a separate IR illuminator with a diffuser to light up the yard better when the camera is in night vision mode. - The two-way speaker is good but not great. The audio often stutters regardless of which end you are communicating from. Part of this, I'm sure, is that my current internet speed is "up to" 16mbps. And I would much prefer the video quality be prioritized over audio. But the speaker on the floodlight itself is also just not super clear, even when the audio isn't stuttering.
