Does installation of this unit require or would it benefit from a small thermal expansion tank?
Hello KenM, The REP160iP does not require an expansion tank as part of the unit installation. However, an expansion tank may be required depending on the home’s plumbing configuration and local plumbing codes, such as in closed domestic water systems. We recommend consulting a licensed professional installer to evaluate your plumbing setup and determine whether an expansion tank is needed.
What size vent tube can be used. Can I use what I already have?
Not sure what you mean by “vent tube,” but if you're referring to tubing for condensation,, we recommend using a clear ½" ID vinyl or similar condensation tubing
Does this unit come with plug cord and service valves?
Hi MtnMama, yes the unit will come with a 5' outlet cord and isolation valves for servicing the unit.
can this unit be mounted in an exterior room with vented metal door? elevation 1800 ft does get in the upper 20*f rarely in the peak winter time
Hi pipesize, as long as your installer properly insulates all piping. Heat tape can be used on pipes to keep unit from freezing

Can this be installed by homeowner?
Hello Dave, Rinnai does recommend the installation be completed by a licensed and trained professional but is not required. When installing a Rinnai tankless water heater, a licensed technician would ensure proper venting, gas pressures (both the supply pressure and internal calibrations of the lo and hi fire settings), water pressures, electrical and drain lines are done properly. A locally licensed professional would also be expected to know and follow any local codes and/or pull any required permits. Please be advised that if there are any manufacturing defects that need to be resolved under warranty, we do require that a licensed professional is involved to assist with diagnosis and repairs needed.
