I just moved in to my new place and the 50 gal traditional water heater was in need of replacement (hints of leaks surrounded the installation).
It was a somewhat hard choice since money savings was just marginal. A tankless had high installation cost and it wasn't clear if it would be recovered with the lowered energy usage. However, the original tank was shoe horned into a nook and made maintenance difficult (e.g. can't easily replace the anode) and it would be nice to use the recovered space for a water softener.
Decided on the RUR199i because of the reciculation feature.
Installed and mostly working like a champ! Still struggling with the Control-R app for adusting temperature. Haven't called Rinnai yet.
But there are some suggestions:
Mount it on a wall away from living spaces if possible. There is a low hum when it is in use and if it is mounted on a shared wall with a living space, you'll notice it. The noise is especially noticiable when the reciculation pump is running.
Use flexible connections if possible. Things are very tight and it'll save you quite a bit of time. I wanted a neat installation a with pressure valve and hose bibs and all pipes in-wall and that took most of the time.
Workout connection locations with the unit on the floor and be aware of the standoff distances from the wall as the cold water connections is close to the wall and if not properly planned could lead to a lot of headaches ;-)
If using hard pipe for the condensate drain, add a union to simplify future maintenance (e.g. if you need to remove the unit).

Very complicated to self install, but videos on UTube helped. Some of the manual directions needed re- reading and studying a few times. We also ordered a comfort valve to prevent the problem of cold water sandwiches at kitchen sink. Would have liked to install one in bathroom sink also due to long plumbing runs but only 1 of these valves is allowed. Our Water must run quite awhile before getting warm and continue to run to stay warm. We also increased the water temperature by 10 degrees from the preset of 120. Parts for connecting comfort valve are difficult to find to connect to existing standard kitchen sink plumbing. The inside circuit board of the unit is really compact and we hope it lasts as replacing items inside unit could be difficult.

The Rinnai tankless hot water lived up to its claims. Easy to operate with WiFi to maximize efficiency while still having instant hot water with the recirculation pump. It is very quiet and takes up very little space on the wall in the garage. The pipe covers were easy to install and completed the look of the unit. Well worth the additional investment.
Tankless water heater are expensive, that's a fact. One of the cool thing about this unit over the rest is that it has a built in recirculating pump, giving you a little hot water on demand or by timer or all the time. When my plumber put it in, he forgot to take out the plug at the bottom and program it. It is crucial you do that, else the schedule for the recirculating pump won't work. It's also confusing that you can't turn your water below 120 with the recirculation on.
As far as the recirculating pump, running it just 5 minutes will give you a hint of warm water at any part of the house. If you do need to do a full shower, you need to run it longer as you might run into a situation where the pump will bring you an initial shot of hot to warm water, then nothing for 20 second before a big rush of hot water comes on. The unit did nothing wrong, it's just the nature of the pump. You really need to run it for a lot longer if you want hot water all the time
Install was problem free. Decided to purchase the wired controller since the negative reviews seem to be related to the WiFi module. Unlimited hot water makes it quickly to all faucets, granted my house has dedicated recirc piping. System works problem free and is much better than the old 75 gallon tank I had. Expensive but worth it for the unlimited water.
