They CLAIM 2.25, but we barely got 2, and we put straw down every year in exactly the same bed so know exactly how much it should cover. Buy the bales.

Worst pine straw ever
I just finished spreading 10 rolls of this pine straw (apparently this is the first season this HD store has gone to the rolls instead of bales). After having bought pine straw for more than 20 years for our yard (from various sources including HD over the years), I can unequivocally say this is hands-down the worst stuff I've ever bought. I'm not overly particular about pine straw, but this stuff had sticks, pine cones and yards-upon-yards of vines fouling it up. (see attached photo) At first, I thought perhaps some baling wire had gotten caught up in the first roll, but I quickly established that these were vines. At least you know it's pine straw because half the pine forest is included in the rolls. Home Depot could not pay ME to take any more of this mess off their hands. And as you undoubtedly can tell, I would warn anyone away from it. At $8.75 per roll (allegedly equal to about twice the volume of one of their bales), you're wasting your money. You'd be wasting your money at 75 cents a roll.

Palm Leaves as Filler
First, the price increase was over double the regular price. The first roll had a significant amount of filler, including too much pine branches, but I kept it going and understood this was possibly just a miss in the process. The second roll not only had the pine branches, but I began to find rose bush sticks and fern leaves. The third roll had an entire layer of palm leaves and branches. This was too much. We took it back to home depot for a return. They would not take it back, nor did the store manager seem to care that the product sold was a horrible product. This is not the customer service I am accustomed to, and we will not be back.

WASTE OF MONEY!
This is the worst quality pine straw ever! Filled with large sticks, leaves, hay, vines and even trash! This phot is from 2 bales! I bought 8 and they were all the same or worse! Shame on Home Depot for selling such a poor product to its customers!

Each bale of straw covers approximately 80 square feet between 2 to 3 inches thick and really looks great. We had colored pine bark before and it kept washing away under heavy rains and stained our driveway and sidewalks, the pine straw doesn't wash away and it doesn't stain our driveway either.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!
This pine straw has dried grass with seeds, lots of sticks and pine cones and lastly 2-3 feet long pieces of briars. Also, almost forgot, leaves. We have always shopped at home depot but i would highly recommend going to Lowes and purchasing the much cleaner bales. Would give a zero star if possible. I dont think this is a batch issue because we have purchaed 3 different times and 12-16 rolls each purchase, hoping the quality would improve
