About This Product
These neoprene sheets consist of closed cell rubber sponge. Closed cell sponge rubber is created by distributing gas through the rubber during production, creating sealed air pockets within the rubber material. Due to these air pockets, closed cell neoprene sponge is softer, more compressible anda superior at absorbing energy compared to solid rubber. Since the air pockets in closed cell sponge are sealed, closed cell neoprene is far less permeable to water than open cell anda thus does not easily absorb moisture. Because of its water resistance, closed cell neoprene is often used as a material for various aquatic applications. Additionally, since it exhibits this resistance to moisture while still demonstrating the compressibility and energy absorption that characterizes sponge rubber, closed cell neoprene rubber is often used in gasketing, where it forms an effective seal between rigid parts to prevent leakage of liquids or gases. The neoprene material also has some resistance to some oils and chemicals compared to other polymers, so it does not degrade as easily when coming into contact with these substances. These resistances enhance the usability of closed cell neoprene as rubber sealing in machinery where such oils or chemicals are present.

I am looking for a product to use for a home gym floor. It will go down on a smooth poured concrete slab. Would these work laid and taped next to one another?
The sponge rubber sheets are not suitable for use as flooring as they are not abrasion resistant enough for foot traffic and they lose the ability to rebound with repeated compression. This material is highly recommended for gaskets and sound insulating.
would this product in 5/8 thickness have any insulation value , and sound reducing ?
While I do not have any statistical data for this, I believe it would have some insulation value and sound reduction capability. For sound reduction, you would probably need to cut angles into the surface to deflect sound waves away from a straight surface though.
Installing it front of a speaker with 68dba sound, reduced it to 45dbs, both measured 3 feet at the front, if the speaker had insulation at the back it would've reduced it even further. R value is about 6 for 5/8
We do not have insulation or sound reduction data available for this product as it has not been tested for those applications. However, this material is by its nature an insulator, and it is likely you would experience a sufficient level of insulation/sound dampening at 5/8" thickness.
Yes, I think it does reduce sound quite a bit. It also comes in a one inch thick that may work even better.
Just my opinion but seeing it has air pockets, it probably has insulation value.
