This soft neoprene is a softer version of our regular neoprene rubber. It has a low durometer 45A, meaning that it is softer and more flexible. Our soft neoprene elastomer is made using a blend of neoprene and SBR rubbers. This blend of synthetic rubbers gives this black neoprene material a unique set of resistance properties. This is commercial grade material that is ideal for any application requiring a soft, resilient surface. This is an excellent soft and elastic material for light-duty commercial applications with chemicals and moderate levels of oils and ozone. This class of synthetic rubber (45 durometer) is among the softest and most flexible elastomers available on the market. When an application calls for a flexible gasket part, soft neoprene is the way to go. Although this level of flexibility comes with a sacrifice of some resistance to physical abrasions, this rubber can still handle a moderate amount of abrasions. However, it is far more suited for non-abrasive purposes. Our soft black neoprene sheets are excellent for resisting chemicals. Given its softer nature, it is better suited to light and regular commercial applications that involve chemicals like certain salts, acids, and gases. The material will not degrade in their presence, and by extension, neither will your machine or application. While not recommended for heavy oil use, soft neoprene will hold its own when exposed to regular, non-excessive amounts.

Hello Harold, Thank you for your question. This 45A commercial grade neoprene sheet is not rated or certified as a pressure containing material. It is a general purpose rubber sheet commonly used for gasketing, sealing, cushioning, and for applications requiring moderate oil and weather resistance. While it has a minimum tensile strength of 700 PSI, that value refers to the material’s strength when being pulled, not its ability to safely contain internal pressure in a vessel or pressurized system. If you would like to share more details about your specific application, please feel free to reach out to us! Best, Robert Morris, Rubber-Cal Inc.
Hello Kristina, Thank you for your question! Our Neoprene 1/4 in. Commercial Grade 45A Soft Rubber Sheet Rolls are not recommended for use as outdoor playground mats. While this material does offer moderate resistance to weathering, oil, and ozone, it is primarily designed for industrial applications such as gasketing, sealing, cushioning, and underlayment, rather than impact absorption or long-term outdoor durability required for playground use. If you’re looking for a durable, rolled flooring product suitable for outdoor environments like playgrounds, we recommend our Elephant Bark rubber flooring. It is specifically engineered for high-traffic areas and provides better durability, slip resistance, and cushioning for outdoor use. Please let us know if you'd like more information on Elephant Bark or help choosing the right product for your project! Best, Robert Morris, Rubber-Cal Inc.
The neoprene rubber you ordered is a more industrial type of rubber product that will have a more pronounced odor to it. Its part of how these are made. The smell does dissipate over time, although it depends on how well ventilated the room is.
